Why dont they just shoot the cows in the back of the head. to me that seems more humane than shocking them, hanging them upside down, and then cutting their throats while they are still alive,. Just shoot them.
@missmoocows The cows are shot with a captive bolt gun. Shooting happens in the front of the head because this is more effective. The heart has to be pumping to get most of the blood out of the carcass.
Anybody see that second cow see the first one get shocked to death and he's like, "fuck man, get me away from this shit!" lol
Ok, I can watch cows get killed and not feel bad but when I see that second cow freak out, do they really have to kill the cow in plain view of the other cows?
It's so sad at 0:34 when the cow next in line to die sees the other one falling in the pit and then you can see her fear and she tries to step back as she clearly knows her fate!
May i ask what country this is these cattle are being processed? Just a general question bc im not seeing any USDA inspectors or anything to give me a hint. all ive seen so far is a tag on the chest before dehiding

@TheWeeklyLawReports While a lot of my video's are about Hallal slaughter, this one is just an example of slaughtering technology, which of course also includes Hallal slaughter. Any bolt stunning you see in this video is done with penetrating bolt stunners.
You can see at like 0:30 that the one that didn't go in is shocked and afraid at seeing the one in front of it killed. It pays close attention to it when in drops and kinda backs up and hesitates. Now obviously none of us know for sure but its kinda hard to say it didn't contemplate the fact that is was gonna be hurt after seeing that. Don't necessarily know what to say about that..but one things for sure..I will FUCK up a steak or a burger! Some ribs too! Don't mean to be insensitve. Really.
@questapollo777 In my opinion that hesitation is the same as when entering a new room, a cattle wagon or even walking into dense shade from the bright sun. Cattle (as well as most other hoofed animals) are quite easily startled by bright/dark changes, noises and sudden movements. After having witnessed cattle inspecting heads and complete carcasses in the same way they inspect each others poo or the new brush in the stables I'm quite sure they really haven't got a clue about what's going on.
@xtrekkiee How is this filth? This is how people are fed. To deny that is to deny being human. It wasn't to long ago that you would be teaching you kid to hunt to survive. Modern society has made it so you don't have to hunt, or even see how food is produced, if you don't want to. If you don't want to see it, don't watch it but it is a necessary part of life and to deny that is delusional. I wanted to see a modern plant and I apreciate this being here.
@xtrekkiee First of, the video is age restricted. Without your help your responsible children will only be able to fill in their real age so they can't see this video (the same as those porn sites are protected).

@monthernof Depends on which version of Hallal you talk about. I know of at least 8 different ways of Hallal slaughter which we implemented all over the world. Are all the hides made into leather or are some used for other stuff? Thinking about it, I have probably eaten more cows than I have used the leather from. I am pretty average so I would kinda think there are more hides out there than are needed for clothing, shoes ect. LOL Just one of those things I have wondered about. Great, educational vid. Thx
@shananagans5 Skins/leather is used for much more then just shoes and clothes. There's car seats, couches, wash cloths (yes, the real old good ones are made of leather).
@Rowel81 No doubt. Leather is used for all kinds of stuff. I have a fair amount of leather clothing, a couch and all kinds of other things. It just seems to me that judging from myself and my friends there should be excess hides left over from the food industry. I dont know exactly how much useable leather or meat you get from an animal. Just seems to me we eat more that the leather we use. LOL Just something I ponder when excessively bored.
@shananagans5 There does seem to be more usage of meat compared to leather as meat prices are usually better compared to leather prices. But as everything, prices are governed by market and the fact that there still is a payment for hides means there still is a market which requires them.
@Rowel81 Thats true. It all balances out. I would be curious to know where all the hydes are going though. For all I know they are all going for human use in some way as I have not really researched it. Anyways, Thanks for posting this series. I found it interisting and educational.
Rowel, thanks for posting these videos. As a veterinary student not raised in the meat industry, I was curious as to how this process works. I had a hard time getting any straight answers from swine processing plant I visited. I appreciate the straight forward facts.
I have a few questions. Do you collect and sell the blood as a feed ingredient? What do you do with the skins? Does leather typically come from cattle used for beef? What happens to the other non-meat parts of the animal? Thanks.
@aviebaby4 My pleasure! Blood is often collected for making blood sausage/blood pudding. Pig blood can be used for making blood serum for health care as well. Skins are used for leather. Almost all leather is produced from meat cows and sheep. The non meat parts are processed into animal meal and tallow. The meal is high grade protein (fishfood etc.) the tallow is used for products like a lot of ladies' pH neutral soap (not saying the brands here.. ;)) and stuff like gelatin.
And pale91579 is right, a mate of mine was a butcher and told me the same thing - animal rights groups actually made things worse ... he had to kill the cows himself the old fashioned way so they die properly.
I used to live on a farm in Romania and i have witnessed as a child a more basic way to sacrifice animals, namely a pig, it was held down by 4 strong men and a 5th man cut its neck arteries, the large pig(150 kg i think) struggled a lot until it bled out, seemed like 20 minutes but i think i looked at the clock after and it was only like 5 minutes.
What you're not fully getting is the killing part itself isn't that big of an issue to most vegetarians/ vegans. It's the conditions the animal lives in its entire life and the cruelty it endures while it's LIVING (cramped in small cages, force fed to be made fatter, physical side-effects of hormones and over use of antibiotics).
@orphicselena These animals had a good life (most are prize winning cattle) and use of hormones and anti-biotics has been banned for a long time already. Cage sizes are pre-determined. Best way of making sure the animal was bred and slaughtered in a healthy and more friendly way is to choose biological foods only.
It's still a bit harsh having the cows line up and watch the cow in front of them get killed. Look at the reaction of the cow watching the one in front getting killed about 30 seconds into the video. He's like "what the fuck was that... oh shit they are killing us". He backs away off the screen, as he knows he is next in line, not a pleasant way to go, best they don't see what is iabout to happen to them. But it is quick, and looks very painless.
In my experience the backing up happens more because there is a sudden movement in front of the animal and not because it realises what's going on. Cattle even tend to walk into a slaughter house easier and a bit curious/inquisitive when they are already slaughtering compared to the first animals. I even doubt the animals recognise the difference between a dead or living animal.
wow. that's pretty arrogant of you to assume they dont recognize the difference between being alive and dead. i reckon if it was *you* in line, and watched the person in front of you get shot in the head, you would back away too.
@SessoMattoGobbles Yes, I would back away as I am a human. If you read again you will see that first of all it is about recognizing whether another animal is alive or dead. And I don't assume, but presume cattle don't even have this knowledge as no-one can know this for sure, I only speak from my experience and from what I have seen working with cattle. Back to your last/my first statement, most important: Animals have no human rights! If we can't agree on that the whole discussion is futile.
@Rowel81 thats the dumbest comment ever, have you ever spent time around cattle they are smarter than dogs man. Im no tree hugger but get your acts straight
I believe the bit labelled "stunning" is actual killing. The bolt gun shoots a bolt into the animals' brains (ala No Country For Old Men). There are some remaining nerve responses for a short while afterwards (similar to headless chicken running around post mortem). The rest of the video is the processing of the carcass. Seems to me like a quick, efficient and hygenic process, without unnecessary suffering.
The correct term is 'Irreversible stunning'. This means the animal suffers massive brain trauma but the heart and other functions will remain intact for at least quite some time (like people in a coma without life support). The cut is made to bleed the animal while the heart is still pumping (important for maximum bleeding results) and that is what actually kills the animal. Reversible stunning is usually electric.
@Shmeg28 That's what I said. And I'm trying to find the link on the internet of research I received a hard copy of recently proving the heart of an animal correctly stunned with a captive bolt will remain beating long enough to ensure maximum bleeding.
Used to work at a slaughter facility, asked the guys about the cruelty aspect of it. They told me the animal rights people made it worse for the cattle by demanding the air stun guns. it used to be 1 in 10,000 or so would still be kicking after the stun/kill box, when they still used slugs. now I am told it's more like 1 in 100. which i tend to believe since i saw one kicking in this production piece. I'm sure the cattle are happier now. Thanks PETA!
Stunning shouldn't differ between pneumatic or with a powder operated captive bolt stunner. The kicking however is a good sign (same as hanging tongue, floppy neck etc.) of complete stunning.
@pale91579 the kicking is a natural reaction due to neurons that are still firing. because it is kicking does not mean that it is a concious animal. if an animal is trying to lift its head (called righting reflex),vocalizing, or reacts when touching the eye then it has regained conciousness or was not properly stunned to begin with
very, very edited ,no sound so unless you can hear that there is no mooing from the cows you can't judge if the animals are distressed or not, also they didn't show the actual working of the halal killer obviously because it was not in keeping with the " we love the animals and kill with kindness" bullshit .
i am not a vegetarian and eat meat but this doesn,t show the reality of where our meat comes from.
We off course have different kinds of video's, these are for use at a trade fair etc. where we don't want to confront people with too many images they might not appreciate. If you look at some of my other vids you will see we definitely don't try to hide the reality of slaughtering, we are just trying to provide information in ways so that anybody can learn something without directly being confronted with what some consider as disturbing.
@Rowel81 I read statements from a slaughterhouse worker on an Animal Rights video--that cows come down conveyor still alive when he cuts off their limbs. He said they're mooing and moving their head, blinking. Makes me incredibly sad for them!! Why can't they give them time to actually die??
@giaisbomb That should not be possible. Any slaughter house should be shut down immediately by the veterinarian upon seeing that. Also this will cause very high pH values in the meat which will cause it to be deemed condemned and thrown out. For this reason most stories of "slaughter while alive" are b*llsh*t as this would cause the meat to be tainted and unsellable. (bribes of vets etc. are not taken into account here)
This is a very good, educational vid - people need to know where their meat comes from instead of seeing things through the sometimes distorted lens of the animal rights activists.
Nice to see some proffesional people working in a slaughter house. Although I could not do it. It helps having the soft music instead of all the bannging screaming and clattering that goes on in these places.
I'm a veggie a I gone down the veggie route due to animal abuse, but I agree with the others - this is a low stress/quick kill situation - which is how it all should be - it all facilities were like this, I'd be happy to eat their products.
BUT I have no earthly idea what happens in that "ritual slaughter" box... nor do I want to know.
though they should wear more stuff over their hairy heads... and have a no beard policy... b/c that's hair in your meat right there.
I have to say that this video is way more humane than many other ways people do it. Rather than beating them to death, or hacking there limbs off, or shackling there legs up and beheading them while they alive. And then let them lay in there own blood till they bleed to death.
This is more humane because they take their time. They aren't in a big rush to get as many cattle through as possible. it's all done very meticulously and efficiantly. Taking the time to do things properly is less stressful than taking shortcuts. By taking their time, it also shows respect for the animal that just died.
I do find the slaughter boxes still cruel, the cow was still wriggling when it was being lifted up. I think they should at least let it die completely before they chain it up.
Actually the captive bolt gun doesn't kill it only stun it or make it brain dead. The "wriggling" is only muscle reactions due to the loss of connection to the brain. The bleeding is what actually kills them.
This is a well made video which demonstrates the quick and humane despatch that is sadly lacking in a lot of slaughterhouses. ~ The efficient way of dealing with all processes carried out.
No cruelty, beating or naff stun-gun use just a job cleanly done with staff who show great expertise.
Very quick and humane despatch and dedicated workers to complete the job best video on here for showing how painless and no suffering can be carried out... sad it maybe but it's facts that we need to eat and having watched this I am at peace with seeing no horrendous cruelty was involved.
If it weren't for the beef industry, these beautiful animals wouldn't even exist. Beef cattle live a pretty nice carefree existence, given grass to graze, shelter from predators, and proper care demanded by industry regulations. Sure it's a short life, but it's not a bad life, and what we see here is a quick, humane end. Beats the cancers and other horrid ways us humans get to die.
Brutal, yet fascinating at the same time.

For this reason most stories of "slaughter while alive" are b*llsh*t as this would cause the meat to be tainted and unsellable. (bribes of vets etc. are not taken into account here)

@giaisbomb where are their inspectors? this is grounds for an operation to be shut down!

This is a very good, educational vid - people need to know where their meat comes from instead of seeing things through the sometimes distorted lens of the animal rights activists.

This made me seriously think about going vegetarian. I have never seen anything like this...

Nice to see some proffesional people working in a slaughter house. Although I could not do it. It helps having the soft music instead of all the bannging screaming and clattering that goes on in these places.

all though this isn't cruel it's still depressing to watch :(

And then let them lay in there own blood till they bleed to death.
pInkpaRizw0lF 2 years ago
This is more humane because they take their time. They aren't in a big rush to get as many cattle through as possible. it's all done very meticulously and efficiantly. Taking the time to do things properly is less stressful than taking shortcuts. By taking their time, it also shows respect for the animal that just died.
I do find the slaughter boxes still cruel, the cow was still wriggling when it was being lifted up. I think they should at least let it die completely before they chain it up.
TheRaGiTe 2 years ago 18
well, i've heard the head-clamb breaks the neck of the cow.
Dont know or it is true, but it seems to be.
So what you see the cow wriggling could be convulsions.
djdmess 2 years ago
the wriggling you saw were involuntary muscle contractions. The beast was brain dead long before, and thus felt no prolonged pain.
Jerram89 2 years ago
Actually the captive bolt gun doesn't kill it only stun it or make it brain dead. The "wriggling" is only muscle reactions due to the loss of connection to the brain. The bleeding is what actually kills them.

Amen.

This video shows it's not just for brainless people to slaughter.
Thy lookout for what they do and how.
I am not that kind a fan for rituel boxes, but the stun-line looks good.
No stress for the animal.

I wonder if the guy with the stun bolt asked the cows, "What is the most you have ever lost in a coin toss, call it, fried o"

This is a well made video which demonstrates the quick and humane despatch that is sadly lacking in a lot of slaughterhouses. ~ The efficient way of dealing with all processes carried out.
No cruelty, beating or naff stun-gun use just a job cleanly done with staff who show great expertise.
dadsaloser 2 years ago 4
