  • Very creative! The only reason why ppl would call this "depressing" caus i

  • Very few rap/hip-hoo appeals to me. This certainly does.

  • Can't believe how some people rate lp so low in these comments. He may have a dark style but where would we be if music couldn't relate to our life's. personally I don't own a gun and I'm not a gangster.. tbh I don't think that is a realistic impression of most people's life's and u wud be lying if u were to say the music u listen to doesn't reflect ur goals, experiences or attitude etc. So why don't people accept that lp as an artist may not be aiming his music at the masses (keeping every1 ha

  • I think I am one of those robots

  • Good lord this song is so incredible/depressing.

  • I think my step father came from that factory, but they didn't check him closely enough. He malfunctioned.

  • Mothers - how many times have you debated sub-euthanasia tablets for breakfast snacks?

  • I grew up with one of those robots.

  • surreal

  • "Why are you making me hurt you? I love you."

Ick... makes you want to take a shower.

  • who knew it only took one song to show how dark the world really is...

  • This is so depressing and fucked up.Good shit though.

  • Where's the love button?

  • This guy has no Flow.

  • @SuperSonicPsykic

it's staccatto stream of conciousness. say suga free doesn't have flow. They both just rap different.

  • @SuperSonicPsykic Fantom909's comment should be redirected to you...

  • Wow I'm shocked. I'd heard of El P but never actually listened to him except when featured on other songs. This is an amazing track. Didn't expect him to be this good!

    reminds me of sage Francis.

  • @MinamaTING When in actuality Sage Francis should remind you of EL P, not the other way around.

  • i heard he stopped this song in the middle of it , to yell at someone who was being too loud during it since its a personal song for him, i always thought that wwould be uber emabrassing to be that guy who gets yelled at and singled out by whoever is performing hahaha jerk

  • Can't stop watching this one. Emotionally devastating. Again, brilliant. I've always liked El-P. I am now a fan.

  • Brilliant track and video. Bravo to all involved.

  • People don't respect rap like they should. People like to hear catchy sounds with memorable words, no mater how false or arrogant. They want to hear rappers rap about and everything associated with that lifestyle. Half the time they don't even care what the lyrics are about. They just like the sound. How many people want to read about our founding fathers and their views and try to understand what they were thinking when they built this nation. They would rather watch National Treasure.

  • The problem with EL-P is that he's just too damn serious. His songs are drab and depressing and lacking in flow to the point where it overpowers the beat and it's just a chore to listen to.

And people, listen: alternative and underground hip-hop needs to shake this whole "holier than thou" image. Stop repeating the same fucking comment on how mainstream rap is about ho's/cars/whatever the fuck you think it's about. Turn on your damn radio and listen before you parrot someone else's criticism.

  • @DJRozwell El-P is a very serious rapper but i dont think you can criticize him for it. It is what he feels and it's what he knows. You rap about what you know. At least he isnt rapping about shit he doesnt know. Also you can pretty easily stereotype mainstream rap. Ho's cars and money is what sells these days and thats what the top rap songs are about. Look at billboards top raps songs its money and ho's. There is some fluctuation but that's what it is.

  • @DJRozwell are you serious? something that is easily identified is what your looking for, mainstream BS. your looking like an idiot right now your in the wrong section and everyone knows you dont belong here. something complex and poetic is better than the boring mainstream.Your a fuckin robot dressed in the latest trend and loving it!Buying it! Why?who thinks your cool? why does that matter? this is knowledge and its infinite! theres no limit to what el-p is about its philosophical in many ways.

  • @starseedfrompl Look, what music you listen to doesn't determine who you are. You say I'm a robot? You sound like all those other bitchy "alternative" hip-hop fans out there, saying the same shit about robots and sheep and radio and blah blah. You hear an opinion that sounds rebellious, and you repeat it.

Do me a favor. Listen to some Public Enemy, Fort Minor, and The Roots. Serious doesn't need to be depressing. Serious doesn't need to mean drab beats and sombre lyrics. Expand your horizons.

  • @DJRozwell hey guess what, hip hop is not dead.its underground. sounds like your stuck in the passed dude. sorry for offending you but maybe theres something to it. something your not understanding and thats why it sounds repetitive. either way i dont really care if you like el-p or not but trust im coming from a point of view, not simply repeating something. if that was the case id be pleased with the mainstream. you should hear lighteded album wrong way these are lyrics from cont-

  • @DJRozwell afraid of the dark 'now your addicted to the same thing inflicting you with pain but you turn around and blame me for sticking truth'you don’t realize that the reason for your wanting to be noticed(fine cars hoes bling guns)is because you feel a need to validate your self in the eyes of others because you don’t feel worthy. The Buddha states in'the four noble truths' that the reason for our suffering is our desires. This is complex philosophy.Ive changed my whole life with this outlook.

  • @DJRozwell We have been listening to the radio how could you not the BS is blaring out of every idiots speaker.I have heard it so much I can hear it with my ears closed. Damn aren’t you sick of it?Are you that simple? Its week as hell. WEEK. Listen to El-p long enough to actually understand the implications and you might learn something.the beats are so f*ckin intence that his intensity matches it head on.He raps in an esoteric manner that flows with many layers. To the naked ear this is nonsence

  • I'd liked to hear him rap/read the side effects to a few medications i see on TV.

  • Not a fan of this as the first El-P song i've listened to... well organized and stated lyrically, great depth in meaning. but the track lacks dynamic flow. its boring to say the least although i can see the artistic approach and respect that but it's not something i would bump for fun. I guess i'm more into Classified, Slug, Sage Francis type styles.need to listen to some more of his work or check him out with Company Flow

  • @bmathers21 El-p's production is meant to be a bit jarring and a bit odd. It fits the lyrics. I imagine if you listen a bit more it will grow on you.

  • WOW this is light years ahead of anything I have heard before in terms of this political movement we call hip-hop. In lay mans terms...tHiS Is sOFrEsH

  • why the fuck speculate. make like nike, haters.

  • No, this isn't about his biological Father (who's a Jazz musician that he later collaborated with) it's about his abusive alcoholic step-father. It's also a critique of corporatist capitalism. This isn't "nerd-rap" or whatever - there's no such thing. There aren't too many people out there "keeping it real" (I know it isn't cool to say that anymore) but he is one of the only people out there doing it. I'm not "on his dick" or anyone's - I'm a fan and my respect is legitimate.

  • El-P is stupid he hates science

  • i saw elp live it wuz awesome!

  • he's great live isnt he? rhetorical. but yeah i thought he was going to pull out his heart while preforming "the overly dramatic truth". he has a great live show.

  • i wonder if anyone has written a phenomenology of the internet?

  • Do the robot!

  • Real hip hop, I like the strings, real deep beat. El-P always been on my top 25 of all time.

  • creative i like it

  • Comment removed

  • that or really cool robots and honkies

  • what kind of shit do you listen to createaweb

  • Apathy, nas, immortal technique, dead prez, ...

  • ur at the surface of hip hop

  • yeah i am, and to what do you listen..

  • nicely put.

  • condemn the different

  • Nerd wrap something too intellegent for you, I am sorry that things aren't told to you in the terms of slapping hoes and gettin money... I am sorry people like you are what bring this entire genre down. I am sorry that you have found yourself lost in a place where you could never and will never belong.

  • @fantom909 No El-p song will make your life complete, so stop being so proud that you listen to "intelligent" hip hop. Stop being so impressed that you dont need tits and cars in a video to be happy. Your still a fucking idiotic virus if you think any other form of music is low enough of this food chain you seem to imagine that you can call other people out on it. Go. Get. Fucked.

  • @cbrazier2 You trollin? Because honestly, the music that you seem to hold so highly is a plague on humanity, there's nothing redeeming about it. at all... I hold it in such low terms because you have to be brain dead to enjoy it...

And I call people out on it because guess what? It's something that needs to be said, quit listening to shit, and I will quit saying that you're listening to shit. simple. as. that.

  • @fantom909 cold.

  • @fantom909

You like something most other people don't like? You must be so much better than everyone else.

  • @Hyoobris Well, by the very nature of listening to shit music, you are considered an idiot by the masses, not just me...

  • @fantom909

Isn't your point that the masses don't find pop music stupid. Then people who like it aren't idiots to the masses, only in the eyes of elitists.

  • Def Jux for life

  • My friends send me the oddest videos. O.o

  • Your friends have great taste in music if they sent you this.

El-p is just wow. his lyrics are so intellectual listening to him makes your iq go up. loving all of El-p's music!

  • Really? That only works for me if I'm listening to zen. LoL

  • Lol fair enough.

  • did you know that this song was about his father? look it up,shit sucks :/

  • pretty harrowing

  • The beat alone makes me want to crawl into a corner, nevermind the lyrics. This is intense.

  • FAM DAM is the best rap album in history!

  • Deep and spinechilling

  • what a fuckin badass El-P is. much enjoyment

  • man, where the fuck is lif?!

  • el-p got that raw shit tamed.

  • Ay, I'm from Dallas and everyone down here is on the dancefloor bull-ish...el-p is a god amongst producers. I like the beat, although Lazerfaces Warning is a little colder! The concept, genius as always! Thanks for Def Jux...where my jukies at???? Throw your soul into the air!

  • el-p is a genius

  • wow... just fkn wow

  • Musical, Lyrically, Visually... any facet of this could easily stand on it's own & be interesting. Pieced together, it's the most coherent & congruent theme I've seen out of hip-hop in a long time.

And I agree w/ NasNY - This beat is COLD; from the industrial noise of the chorus to the foreboding pulse of the verse, it's the audio analogue to the inhuman stepfather & corporate greed.

  • !!"!

  • stepfathers are home wreckers with better jobs.

  • LMAO!!

  • Just because you're gay doesn't mean you have to tell everyone on YouTube.

  • favorite song period... lyricism is amazing

el-ps on another planet with this

no one can touch him remotely

  • SICK!!

    I LOVE THIS VID!!

  • Crazy, unique video concept! Just really sad about the message of broken families and spousal abuse, even if it's robotic.

  • fuck my stepfather

  • huh, get over it? u dont know me or what i been through. fuck u get the fuck outta here tryna start shit over the internet

  • Just don't let yourself be a victim by anything. Most people do have fucking shit filling their lives up but don't let it ruin everything for ya. Try to be a good Dad when you grow up. Some songs are just downers, doesn't mean you should emulate it. I wish it was easier I'm not trying to mess with you.

  • El-P & Co Flow changed underground hip hop 4 ever, Thank U El-P

  • def have los this touch

  • phat beat, awesome flow

  • All round ingenious track from el-p right here, a hiphop classic.

  • My god. this song is so ace.

  • too sick to be true.....

  • been on this since 2001.if u like this look at camu tao, mr. lif and cannible ox

  • CAN OX is pretty boss too

  • fucking rad.

...anyone else feel really paranoid right now?

  • lol ur stoned

  • I'm definitely awake

  • i m but a prototype metroid programmed to a holocaust style....

  • I dig both

  • this song is stone cold

  • El-P is a genius.

With divorce rates in America where they are, this factory could pull us out of our "recession" in no time...

  • @baaman00 Agreed. I never knew he wrote lyrics like this, I mean I've heard him in Company Flow and with Del but this song is sick.

  • superb!!!!! wow!

  • This song has a strange prophetic type feeling.. when i see this video i can envision a sorta psychadelic relation to whats going on today

  • ....

  • you chat shit.

  • without knowing about the perception on which i'm coming from, you're mighty quick to criticize the words i chose to whip together in reflection of this song. The marketing, the ignorance of man to create dangerous things without worrying about the consequences, the violence in american families with family homicides.. People buying worthless shit they dont need.. etc. Take it how you want, but you ought not criticize what you don't understand.. reserve that for bigots and feeble minded.

  • Yeah, this is the song that really got me into El-P's music. I always thought he was good and respected him. But after I heard this I started listening to him more and he's become one of my favorites.

  • Probably my favourite El-P track, the production and lyrics are just ill and the video is a perfect companion.

  • digital sunz infiltrating dark zyborgzm

  • yo i had no idea this song had a video. nice art style

  • nice..i heard this guy today on aussie radio 94.5 a song called " Ill sleep when your dead" i believe it was called however i cant find it.

    Unique production styles.

    Really like it!

  • that's the name of his latest album.

  • This track is mad... It's so dark and humorous at the same time... makes it really hard hitting. EL-P is a genius.

  • shut the fuck up, you cunt this is hotenss you just dont get it. you like to lil wayne, that bitch and soulja boy, and dance like monkeys in the jungle you bitch

  • breakdown systematic..

    mothers...

    troubleshooting!

  • reminds me of monkey dust. alot

  • if you can read this

you're staring your stepfather right in the eyes

  • the ending creeps me out :(

  • El-P and DJ Premier are my favourite DJs, how can someone NOT like this style? :D

  • el p's an amazing artist. i'd love to see a horror or some surrealistic sci fi film with a soundtrack produced entirely by producto.

  • Yes, El P is very skilled and has a very odd style. n.n

  • i love this song

everytime i hear it im reminded of the scene from alien when ash goes beserk.

    damnit i love this song.

  • whats your name sweetheart yea whatever lol

  • El-p's stories and concepts are amazing. I love the slight sci-fi influence. I like wheres he's taken this, like Habeas Corpses (Draconian Love).

  • I couldn't agree more. Although there were songs that I liked right off the bat (Delorean, Constellation Funk), it took me some time to warm up to most of the album. A lot of people SAY it but El-P truly is on some other sh-- (in a good way. lol). His production on Cold Vein is my favorite.

This end of this song is beautiful, if not a bit sad. "Why are you making me hurt you? I love you?"

  • keep in mind and

remember! no cash returns. only credit stores future purchases.

  • That's because El-P Produced for Cannibal Ox.

  • This song is sick. Sounds kinda like a Cannibal Ox beat.

  • Agreed. Hardly surprising though

  • I couldn't think of a better beat to go along with this song, that guy is nutty.

  • I jus can't get enough of this track...The concept on its own jus kills me..El-p ke ntja!

  • Its not that the beat isn't going with the lyrics, its that your mind hasn't moved its thoughts fast enough yet. Way beyond.

  • amazing lyrics but they dont go well wit the beat it doesnt really blend it gets a little confusing but still a bangin trak

  • that is the style of El P

  • A lot of his songs are so much worse in that way, this one's very coherent compared to others.

  • sick beat with deep lyrix bangin' 4sho

  • marasakr

  • different

  • why are you makeing me hurt you??.....i love you...

  • reminded me so much of that one Radiohead song...

  • Paranoid Android?

  • No, "Fitter, Happier" is the name of it. There's a robot voice very similar to this one.

  • I read in an interview that he used the same vocoder.

  • EL P |/\/\/\THE BEST RAP !!

  • Wow this is certainly different! Dope.

  • El P stands alone.

  • He nailed the definition of a step father,

a fake dad duplicate with simulated emotions.

    In most cases.

  • Great song. The beat is interesting and not a standard beat for El-P. I love the fact that he takes fairly big risks and branches out with his music. Fan Dam is an amazing album as is I'll Sleep When You're Dead. Personally I think his best production work is Can Ox's The Cold Vein. Those beats are brutal, especially Raspberry Fields, which is one of the hardest beats ever.

  • watever it is something normal peoples thing about

oyo elp, m to da H reprek, i got it on hack... matrix leaking .

  • i had already heard this when it released, but i nearly creamed my pants when the vid aired on mtv2 like a year later!

  • I'm a stepfather factory.

  • creative art... awesome

  • Song and video are works of art. The album that it's from, "Fantastic Damage", is one of the few that I can listen to from beginning to end. Dopest shit!

  • This robot is like an abusive Bender from Futurama.

  • You do to much coke. Bender was pretty abusive too. Those things look nothing like him either.

  • os this track based on l-p's childhood?i mean, teh stepfather robot, the mom getting hit?the pills?

  • its about an abusive step-father that beat up his mum, as far as I recall. I read an interview with him a few years back about it. pretty great lyrics.

  • n wen i say bashd i mean DEADED

  • omninewdeal is a gaylord el-p is dope, hope u get bashd, hater

  • i love this shit.

    so good. really meaningful

  • very intense song, means a lot to me.

  • This song is an excellent science fiction satire of dysfunctional families, probably based on El-P's childhood. If you don't want to think about your music then you should check out something else. This is like Philip K. Dick on wax.

  • Exactly. And El-P is a huge PK Dick fan. He is also big on Alan Moore and lists both as huge influences. How many hip hop artists can you say that about? Any rapper and producer who loves PK Dick and Alan Moore are okay with me.

  • stop bickering music is music, if you like it you like it but if you don't that's your problem

  • ehhh reminds me of ray bradbury.

  • Yeah but not just Bradbury.

  • I love this song makes me look at hip hop in a different light. It doesn't help that what sells hip hop records these days what I like to call rap for the lowest common denominator.

  • That's right. Rap and Hip Hop are two different things. For one thing, the mentality is different twixt the two. Another thing, rap is about the image, hip hop is about anything that's not superficial or pride-filled.

  • For the most part, that is.

  • First off, Lupe Fiasco is severley overrated.

And i'm not some indie fag in college, but most of the rap i lisen to is independent.

If you heard Aesop Rock to Lupe Fiasco, or Aesop Rock to most rappers, you would obviously see that Aesop ROck is far better. I'm nt a big fan of el p as a rapper, but he's a good producer and i've never heard cage.

also what do you mean by "stop saying this crap?"

Besides, Undergorund rap is not only usually more positive than mainsteam but holds much more meaning

  • personally i feel lupe fiasco is better
