  • @Jjonathanhart Is the death of that boy the reason for the green light ropes in the ride currently? I've never been on it but I have seen a video. And thanks for the sub. :)

  • It might be since they never had those green lights in there before. But let's be completely realistic about it, I mean, really, if someone ever asked you do you think anyone could ever die in The Old Mill before this happened, you would say no, right? I know I would think that. The whole thing is so stupid if you think of it. Even tthough the kid went on the ride alone, I'm sure most children would even be too scared to climb out of their boats to begin with.

  • @Jjonathanhart Exactly. Any dark ride haunted house is not supposed to have a death toll.

  • And out of all respect, it's interesting that the news media didn't mention that the mother was so wrong for not riding with her son. That's all she had to do, and her little boy would still be alive.

  • @Jjonathanhart That news special that was on called 'Ride at Your Own Risk' seemed like it was just trying to make the park look bad. All the news wanted to do was take sides.

  • Welll, they didn't take sides with how the public felt or had their own opinions. For Christ's sake, people were saying left and right how stupid the mother was not riding in The Old Mill with her boy. So actually, the news media should have said the same thing in a very polite way. A field reporter could have said something like, "apparently, if the mother had gone on the ride with her son, this unfortunate tragedy wouldn't have happened."

  • @Jjonathanhart I don't think this is the same ride at Playland but here's a video of the same type of ride with a teenager transferring boats while the ride is going. /watch?v=YAGWyOKBgwg&feature=player_embedded#!

  • Probably not. The Old Mill at Playland is a very unique ride. I don't think there's copies of it you'll see at other amusement parks such as The Magic Carpet, Fun House, Wipeout, Thunderbolt, Carousel, Double Shot ride and others. But Playland really should have The Magic Carpet and Fun House rebuilt which ere two of the best rides at the park besides The Dragon Coaster and Old Mill. By doing so the park would attract more people and make more money without a doubt.

  • I wouldn't say it's too dangerous. If there were proper safety precautions in place and the ride was maintained to operate safely then there shouldn't be a problem. From what I've heard the reason of the two deaths were due to human error and not from the ride. Canobie Lake Park has the same type of enclosed ride and it now operates with the lights on Because of what happened at this park.

  • Actually, The Mind Scrambler was once titled just The Scrambler without the dome covering. Exactly, human error on both girls behalf caused their own deaths. And the mother not riding with her 7 year old boy is mostly to blame for his death, not so much the ride attandents. If there was a ride worker on the ledge before the lift hill, who's to say he would have been able to save the kid when he climbed out of his boat before the lift hill. Maybe both of them would have drowned under the ramp.

  • Most of the time, it is rider's fault. If the riders would just obey the rules, but some of 'em want to show off " Look at me ", like they've got a death wish or something.

  • And that death wish came true for both girls for not obeying the safety rules. The same applies for the 7 year old boy who climbed out of his boat going up the lift hill to The Old Mill. 99% of the people say it was the mother's fault for not going on the ride with him. And even if there was a ride attendant on the ledge before the lift hill, who's to say he could have saved the boy. He might have been pulled under the conveyer belt anyway if it happened within seconds.

  • Yeah, look at how stupid I am. It's almost like they're saying, I'm so stupid I'm committing suicide and don't even know it.

  • Parks remove old rides all the time, my hometown park is Dorney Park and they removed a ton of older rides including indoor rides in the name of safety. Cedar Fair is strict. They put seatbelts on most rides, and have all these safety rules. Knoebel's is one of the few parks to preserve older rides and they have or had an indoor thrill ride similar to this one. If deaths occur on a ride, I guess the only way the park can remove the black mark on its record is to remove it. FW and ZC still there?

  • Parks wouldn't have had to remove any rides if people obeyed the signs of rules. Then there would be no deaths, meaning no lawsuits not having amusement parks losing money.

  • This area is now replaced by Catch a Wave..Its pretty fun..Not that very thrilling but it is really fun

  • But by Catch A Wave replacing The Mind Scrambler, it's now a waste of space since they got rid of Bumper Fun cars along next to it. Now you just have one ride in place of where two were.

  • Do you work for Rye playland because you sure are defending this ride hard! I'm not stating that the worker or 2 children killed didn't make foolish choices, but they were human and its the loss of their lives is still a tragedy. I get that you love this ride, but you don't have to call them jacka**zes.

  • No, I don't work at Playland and I'm not defending THE MIND SCRAMBLR. Let's just say the young girl and older woman working at this ride were careless costing them their lives. Sorry about calling them jackasses.

  • this was such a fun ride...

  • You mean was a fun ride.

  • @Jjonathanhart isnt that what i said? :) its too bad they closed it, even though i havent been to playland in so many years

  • I'm just saying they closed down The Mind Scrambler because of 2 deaths. It was the girls' own stupidity not being careful.

  • I hear you. People kill themselves on rides by their own stupidity, then their next of kin wants to sue Playland for their deaths. There's no signs that say, BAIL OUT AT YOUR OWN RISK WHEN THE RIDE'S MOVING.

  • Yep, foolish people cause their own deaths.

  • That's gotta suck seeing the Mind Scrambler taken away. :( It definately is the rider's fault alot of times on rides like the Scrambler and a regular 'ol Ferris Wheel, the reason they wind up going to Heaven sooner than they wanted to. I used to love to ride the Mind Scrambler when the Myrtle Beach Pavilion had it. I know the Pavilion's gone now, but when it was going, they should've kept the Corkscrew Coaster, that way, the Mind Scrambler would've stayed. The Hurricane coaster SUCKED! LOL

  • The girl who died went to my school, Daniel Webster, New Rochelle, I was in 2nd or 1st grade I think.

  • That must have hurt hearing Daniel did knowing her from school. But out of all respect, it is a fact that people's foolish actions cause's them to lose their lives. And it is also the ride operators fault for not being more firm ith Daniel when she went on The Mind Scrambler like 9 times in row, nd kept getting more wild kneeling on the car which threw her to her death. Same with The Old Mill for that mother's 7 year old jumping out of the boat. It's mostly her fault for not riding with him.

  • Yes, they turned it into an indoor version of The Mind Scrambler somewhere in the 80's. And remember, those two girls died on the ride because of their own stupidity, no one else's. I say that out of all respect.

  • was this just an indoor version of The Scrambler rides?

  • @1996Coaster not exactly.

this had mirrors and a flashing light show with awesome music.

It was the best ride ever

  • Well, I was never on The Mind Scrambler. I would have thought The Zombie Castle, Flying With and Old Mill are better also being dark rides with lots of spooky scenery.

  • if any of this stupid shit even happened, then the mind scrambler would still be alive and making children happy

  • You mean if none of this stupid ship ever happened, the mind scrambler would still be running. There was nothing wrong with the ride, it was the people's stupidity for dying. Check out part 1 and 2 of my recent videos how I explain what I think went wrong with Playland since it opened in 1928.

  • i know that was a harsh comment but i use to be a carny and i've seen alot of stupid things happen i've seen people do anything to try and get money out of these people that lady who sued playland for over $1,000,000 i'd love to slap her in the face cause it obviousely shows she cares about money more then her kid somebody needs to tell her money isn't gonna bring your kid back i'm sorry to be so harsh about this but these people really do need to wake up

  • I agree with you totally. Just to recap once again on The Old Mill. The mother knew her 7 year old son was afraid to be in the dark alone, yet the kid wanted to go on the ride and the mother let him. And I wouldn't be surprised if the ride attendants didn't let the kid go by himself, then the mother may have tried suing Playland anyway because of the strict rules. Either way there would have been a lawsuit.

  • this is for the families that lost there loved ones its your kids own stupid ass fault why there dead 99% of accidents on rides are the riders fault them selfs cause you dumbasses don't listen to the ride operators instructions so no i don't feel bad cause your loved ones lost there lives on a ride maybe this will teach you morons of society to listen to the ride operator they give instructions for a reason idiots

  • A cold way of putting it, but you're right. Especially the 7 year old boy who climbed out of the old mill boat before going up the ramp and got caught underneath where he drowned. The mother knew he was afraid of going on dark rides alone, therefore she shouldn't have let him go. It's also pretty stupid to jump out of a boat even being 7. Did the kid honestly think the dummies inside the ride were real and planned on killing him?

  • @Jjonathanhart A child is still a child so be careful about what you say! No ride is worth a child's life. If you were fortunate enough to wake up today and live Thank God! Children are children for a reason. They rely on the commonsense of adults. The mother should not have allowed her child to ride alone, especially considering his fear of the dark. I rode this ride more than once with someone and I am an adult. Its harmless, but a child afraid of dark will not like it, especially alone!

  • Yeah, knuckleheads cause their own deaths. I miss the Mind Scrambler at the Myrtle Beach Pavilion. Well, i miss the whole dang park for all that goes! LOL They shouldn't have done what they did with it, now, it's just a big blank piece of grass with some palm trees there. You'd thought that Family Kingdom was the one to go as their stuff looked descelet, and the Pavilion's rides were more top notch than Family Kingdom's stuff. Long live the Mind Scrambler, it was a great ride!

  • I'm glad you agree foolish people cause their own deaths. There's nothing wrong with the rides. So if a kid jumped out of the Zombie Castle riding in his car and got killed being struck by another in the dark, does that mean the ride is at fault and have to tear it down? Of course not.

  • Me and my brother when on this ride I guess in the early 90's. Ill never forget the attendant didn't check the latch I was joking around somethin bad would happen, of course seconds into the ride while blarin Guns & Roses the latch came loose and we were holding on for dear life. It was one of my favorites but I was happy as shit when that ride stopped. It was some scary shit.

  • That's probably why 2 females died on it. So, the latches got loose. Just goes to show you how careless ride attendants are.

  • @OnTheRunSinceBirth How did the ride go?

    What were you in?

  • omg thts so sad they r getting rid of this ride.=[ ive neva been on it and i wanted to go on it this summer..

  • They already got rid of The Mind Scrambler two years ago. Catch A Wave is now in its place. And it takes up space of two rides.

  • im glad its gone. that ride killed so many ppl

  • I'm so sad that this ride was gone; in fact, my family and I went on it only a month before that female operator died there in O7. I had no clue that another girl had passed away before as well, but I LOVED Mind Scrambler. It was the only ride I enjoyed at the time @ Rye Playland because of the music, bass, mirrors and the lights. That operator who died, I heard it WAS her fault because the ride was in operating mode and she was walking around it [ while no riders were on it ]

  • Yeah, that girl was stupid being around the ride when it was moving. I figured they would do away with THE MIND SCRAMBLER after a second death. That younger girl died a year before jumping around in her seat like a jackass. So she was thrown out of the car which I tgink crushed her head. Stupid people cause their own deaths. The same for that 7 year old boy who jumped out of his boat in The Old Mill. So there you have 3 jackasses.

  • @Jjonathanhart That little boy got scared and that's why he jumped out of the boat. He panicked and when jumped out the boat, he got stuck under the others and got hit in the head and died. i think it's kinda harsh to call him a jackass. As for the other two people, that was just plain careless and i agree it was out of stupidity that the tragedies occurred.

  • Yes, it was kind of harsh calling the little kid a jackass. Out of all respect, the mother would be more so a careless fool. The reason is simple. The Mom and son were very religious with the church, viewing various traditions of the world being SATANIC. Therefore, Mom knowing her son feared dark rides and demons, it's 95% her fault she let him ride THE OLD MILL alone. And JUDGE in America would agree with this.

  • Well, as you can see, it wasn't the ride it was the two girl's stupidity for not obeying the rules. The young girl prior to her went on the ride like 6 times in a row and got more and more daring. I heard the little girl got on her knees in the scrambler car turning around and waving to one of her friends, when suddenly she was thrown out of it and got struck in the head by another car.

  • hell yeah.! they do not have any new coasters on flat rides the neeed an intamin or a b&M

  • they prolly scrapped iht... they have almost the same ride in seaside heights but with a different name and the lightning and shytt ihsnt as good and iht dont go as fast

  • Scarpped it is my guess too. Do you agree that Playland should develop the land in the back expanding the amusement park to twice its size.

  • did they sell the mind scrambler or scrap iht?

  • I have no idea what they did with The Mind scrambler. I'll ask one of the employees next time I'm at Playland. I'm going to guess they got rid of it since there were 2 deaths.

  • i heard they took out power surge cause iht had the same manufacturer as the mind scramblers ., which ihf tht ihs true tht ihs just gay

  • ihts all stupiddd ! ihs iht true they took out the power surge too?!

  • Yeah. Like I said, if they developed all the property in the back, they would have more than enough room to keep adding new rides instead of taking out the older ones, such as The Power Serge. Plus, they could build rides on some of those large islands around the lake and comute people back and forth with both of those lake cruise boats. But Playland Management has no imagination.

  • i misss the mind scramblerr soo much .! lihke the best ride there by far and the first deaths werent because of the ride they were becuase of stupid ppl not being CAREFUL fuck thtttt

  • Exactly. Stupid people caused their own deaths. And that 7 year old kid drowning in The Old Mill was a real joke. The stupid mother should have gone on it with her. It's her fault her son died.

  • Ugh, those were my favorite two rides in the place. Damn it all...T-T

  • So, The Mind Scrambler and Bumper Fun Cars were your two favorite rides. Now they just have one ride in place of where those two rides were, CATCH A WAVE.
