But to build your own product takes money? unless you are a top programmer.

You have to visit suppliers to get an idea of what it is you want and then do the homework on actually 'what' product you need to own. Money is a key factor here and a great many newcomers to affiliate marketing simply do not have the 'cash' to start their own product line.

@fileferret2012 You are talking about 2 different models. Selling your own product and affiliate marketing. Affiliate marketers don't have to have products. We sell other people's stuff through recommendations, reviews, etc. I don't have any products that I sell directly so I'm not sure what you mean. The only money I spent was to host my website and that's less than $7/month. Maybe I'm misunderstanding you.

If states need more money, they don't need to go after us affiliates. Doing stupid things like this will in turn make the state less revenue and promote more unemployment (so to speak)! In time they will see what a stupid mistake they've made but at the moment it's diversify or die.

You are right. In Colorado higher taxes has created less incentive for business to operate here. As a Colorado resident I have seen my state go from prosperity to poverty.

The way to prosperity is less government intrusion and less government intervention. Lower taxes and less entitlement programs. Greater freedom to the private sector and the free market system.

What about creating a LLC in Nevada or Delaware for yourself? If its works for other companies and corporations would it work for an affiliate?

Something else you should have a look at is internet censorship, if the government disagrees with what you're saying, they tell the ISP's and you loose your market.

Good advice. UIGEA law killed poker and casino affiliate programs. Always good to keep up with new laws that could affect business. One way to diversify might be to translate into different languages. I am always amazed at what corners of the globe some of my visitors are from.

I think Amazon is fighting a losing battle, and they know it. But it's a battle that will take a LONG time. Every state is trying to find their own way to collect sales tax on Internet purchases. California is going after businesses who buy stuff on the Internet with "Use Tax" for instance. There's going to be some kind of Internet sales tax apocalypse in the next few years that will sort it out....I guess.

I know all about paying for health insurance or having to switch gears when work dries up.

You must have a cushion and a back-up plan. Like you said, diversify your income!

Actually neither. I make more reselling domains and hosting which is a little different than affiliate marketing because I BUY the products and resell them at my own price.

A person always have to find out a way to branch their income from many sources now and days, Just having one job that doesn't have a very certain income can put a person in deep doodoo. Always try to find more than one income when it come down to special jobs like this.
