Did you know how much of a pimp Lee Marvin is? The only actor ever to appear in movies with Humphrey Bogart (The Caine Munity) and Chuck Norris (The Delta Force). Who else can say that?
This Movie is loosely based on the true story of Johan Jonsen, the "Mad Trapper of Rat River."
In late December 1931, an officer for the Royal Canadian Mounted Police and three other men arrived at Jonsen's cabin with a search warrant to investigate the claims that he was pilfering from other trappers' lines. When the Mountie knocked, Jonsen replied by shooting through the door, wounding the officer in the chest.
The four men fled, but a larger force returned soon after and began a 15-hour attack with gunfire and dynamite that failed to force Jonsen's surrender. The following day, a blizzard swept in and Jonsen managed to sneak off obscured by the thick curtains of snow. A massive manhunt began that eventually involved scores of men aided by airplanes, dog teams, and skilled Indian guides. Yet, Jonsen-traveling on foot with almost no food-managed to avoid capture for more than month.
On February 17, 1932, the posse found Jonsen and trapped him on the ice in the middle of a frozen river. Still Jonsen refused to surrender. He shot one of his pursuers before the posse killed him with a massive volley of bullets. Having survived 45 days traveling through some of the roughest country in the world with almost no food, the once robust "Mad Trapper of Rat River" was skin and bones. His corpse weighed less than 100 pounds.
Lee Marvin and Charles Bronson kicked ass. Stallone and Schwartzeneger kicked ass too but know they are too old to make action movies. Action movies today suck because the depend more on special effects than on acting and dialogue.
This movie, which I have never heard of before but seems to be a very good one has just been uploaded on Megavideo in entirety. It is in Spanish where I am but maybe in English where my esteemed reader is sitting - I don't know how that Hong Kong-based website organises such things. There are also lengthy and informative discussions (in English of course) on the movie and the true story it is based on in the relevant FAQ blog of the IMDb.

you dont want albert johnson as a soul mate, he was nothing more than a crazie cop killer. dont know if you've seen this movie its good but a travisty to history, my dad told me it was very poorly recieved here in canada
Regardless of the criminal motivation of Albert Johnson, it is known that he was a superior backwoodsman and survivalist. For over 30 days in temperatures between 25 -45 degrees F, Johnson eluded the posse in the forests of the North Canadian Rockies. When he finally was run down and shot he only had a dead squirrel and a dead whiskey jack in his pack.
Albert Johnson was known as the mad trapper of Rat River and the RCMP was after him for stealing traps, but then his criminal activities escalated when he killed some trappers and allegedly eat parts of them. The movie doesn't even get close to depicting the actual events but it is a good movie nevertheless. It seems that the Death Hunt title was specifically picked to capitalize on Charles Bronson previous Death Wish cinema success.

Some striking similarities to First Blood...
The scene where he's holed up in the cabin is similar to the scene where Stallone is in the bunker surrounded by Soldiers.
The scene on the cliff edge where he jumps... only the plane is replaced by a helicopter.

Stallone was a big fan of Bronsons work, he's even working on a new "Death wish" movie

DEATH HUNT predates by a year, but actually you have to go further back in time to another Charles BRONSON-masterpiece:
CHATO´S LAND did inspire David Morrell, when he wrote FIRST BLOOD ...

Actually, Bronson was hesitant to be in this movie because he thought that people would think it was a sequal to Death Wish.
