BTW I am still using the same PIC... I need to display my readings from a tag using C programming and try to display it with to a simple genaral purpose Alpha Numeric LCD screen... I've created a program that is intended to display the tag's ID but all I can display are weired characters... Any idea why?
Thanks for the suggestion... That would be have been very helpful if i remembered that I posted something here before... Well I will just have to stick with what I have right now and just defend my project. It might not been able to work on the target that I indicated on my proposal but I was able to show that such system can be done. Thanks man.. I'll use your suggestions on my next projects (outside school)... again thanks...
@ddpnic84.. I'm still a student and in our school we used PIC16F877A rather than what you are using and it seems like I don't get a descent reading off my RF sensor. Also I created a module that would work similar to a C-100 where it transforms the RF sensor into a RS - 232 readable device. Could that may have influenced the read speed? I really don't know how to solve this and it is almost time to pass my thesis. If I cant solve this this will go to my recommendations
You should be able to test where the problem is by hooking the reader directly to a PC and seeing what results you get. My guess however would be that its not the PIC16F877A but rather just the reader. I would suggest at least trying the credit card tags to confirm this - if they work better immediately you know the inlay tags are the reason.
Perhaps you could use the credit card tags for your prototype project even if they are not ideal from a form factor point of view. I think it is expected that the form factor of school projects may not be ideal, and most likely your readers form factor is not ideal already anyway (ie with a project box, and hand soldered PCB etc). Perhaps it is more important to have an impressive / reliable demo and just note in your project appendix that credit card tags are not the ideal form factor.
I am using the same device and I can't seem to optimize the read speed / sensitivity of the device... Are you using the C100 converter on this setup? I am using the "Tag-It HF-I Plus Inlay: CD/DVD" tag rather than the "The Vicinity Card Transponder" That you used in this setup. Do you have any tips on how to boost the sensitivity of my setup? Also does the card add to the setup's attribute enabling it to read faster? Please respond the soonest time possible... Thanks
@alpakappaone Not using the C100, the reader is directly connected to the Basic Stamp module.
I found the sensitivity of the reader to be fine out of the box, not sure if there are any settings for adjusting it.
Also found the cards seem to be more reliable / have a bigger read range than an alternate form factor keyring type tag I also tried. Have not used the inlay type tags.
>Where did you get the circuit board the reader is hooked up to?
Circuit board was custom built and uses a Basic Stamp from Parallax.
>does a 13.56 mghz read from farther way
I have found 13.5 to be more reliable and work from greater distance, but I am not sure you can get several feet from it. Would suggest looking into active RFID tags.
can someone tell me how do you make a 125khz rfid reader read from several feet away?
im trying to make one, but i dont know if i should buy one with a better antenna, or does a 13.56 mghz read from farther way since it has a stronger unit??
You can buy credit cards readers on ebay for $50 too. And somebody can steal your wallet and use your cash too. Thats not a reason to stop technology.

@alpakappaone The tag UID is not in ASCII, its binary.

Ey another question, hope u can answer this... Do you have any idea how to program the device to make the RFID's output, display on a LCD screen?

And the government wants to use these things, when some dude on the internet can make something to read it, in his basement? Man, are they stupid.
