This Is One FANTASTIC! Eraly One From Mr Diamond, I Have This On A UK London Label But I Can't Find It Listed Anywhere On That Label, Antone Know If It's Rare Or Not
His music was/is timeless, you could release this song by a decent Indie/Alternative band of today and they could easily get a number 1 with it. Like I was saying to my mum a while ago, his music was WAY ahead of its time and likely why he didn't get a lot of recognition at the beginning, because no one understood it. So glad these songs are still alive today so they can be appreciated by all and finally understood.
@GraceUnderPressure1 Neil Diamond, i am quite surprised of all his songs, they could even be better if he worked them a little more, but he had A LOT of songs,,,, still good
This is the first time I've heard this song before and love it! My mum's been a huge fan of Neil's since the 60's and has all his records, tapes, CD's, videos, been to his concerts and so I was kinda brought up on it and know pretty much all of them but I doubt she'd even know this one! I shall have to let her listen to it!
It is true, the Bang recordings were awesome and really highlighted Neil's greatness as a songwriter, even then he was putting out material a cut above anything else. It is a tribute to these songs that they are reissuing these songs on CD, unfortunately the date has beeen put back to may, probably to coincide with his tour. Brilliant
after the move to Columbia they got the masters. the Bang albums have different mixes whether it's mono or stereo, different back grounds and instrumentations. Additionally Bang also put out "Shilo" album with many of the same tracks as the other two.
He put out two albums on BANG, "The Feel Of Neil Diamond" (1966) and "Just For You," (1967) which is pictured at 1:10 of this clip. The contents of both of those albums, along with the non-Lp B-side "Crooked Street" could easily fit on to one CD. They did it with Van Morrison, and called it "The Bang Masters," and ought to do the same with Neil Diamond.
Thank you for posting this. Another great Neil song. This was on the radio when I met my husband. The only Neil record he had in his collection. It reminds me so much because he was working away at the time I met him.

@morningsideish That CD "The Bang Years" is out now, I have my copy. I bought it last week. Any website that sells music should have it.

There is a CD that comes out March 8, called The Bang Years. The CD contains 23 tracks, including The Long Way Home.

This is one of my favourite Neil Diamond tunes I don't think he does live but it shows you his writing was really blossoming.

Its too bad that none of neil's bang records albums have been reissued/remastered, they really have a lot of good early materiel.

Just about all of his Bang B-sides were as good as the A-sides. I also like "I'll Come Running" and "Crooked Street."
IDLERACER 3 years ago 3
All of Neil's "BANG" material was awesome! You're right about those B-sides! I always played them more than tha A's
