  • Doesn't pretty much every engine these days have variable valve timing now?

  • One only opens when idling to reduce the amount if air that enters the engine. This is why my Vw idles at 690rpm and my crx at roughly 350-400rpm

  • Does anyone know why the vtec engine has 3 cam profiles? 2 are the same, why do they need 2 of the same ones? I'm guessing becuz sometimes, only 1 intake valve is open, but does anyone know when both valves are open while the high cam profile is not in use? this animation showed both valves opening at :01 but only one at :10 .

  • @Digbig, i got the cojones to take u up on that offer in my 97 golf if he won't. Sounds like fun

  • Lol.... V-tec's bad ass if your on a budget, or can't afford to have a street car and a track car or the extra consumption of fuel of a v6-8 as a daily driver.

  • It's funny... because V-Tech is a children's toy brand :D

  • @DigBickDandit Because in 1994, the CEO of V-Tech, Horatio Ramirez, saw the true value in VTECH engines and wanted consumers to see the real value in V-Tech toys. Don't hate bc you still play with them. Oh, my 250hp all motor CRX will roast you.

  • @1000hpHONDA Are we doing this or what? I want to see you flood your puny motor with mud.

  • I used to think v-tecs were cool... but then i took an arrow to the knee

  • When VTEC kicks in, its game over whatever you has; Rustang, Corjunkvette, Trans Cram, Queerbird, Camarrow, etc. The power to weight ratio of a properly tuned CRX is better than a Power Wheels with drag radials and a F1 engine swap.

  • @1000hpHONDA Aww... Have fun with your toys, and keep believing you can beat those. Stock CRX vs any of those, CRX gets laughed at. Tune the CRX, and DON'T tune the others, maybe the CRX will have a chance. Tune both, and the CRX is still shit.

  • @DigBickDandit You have no idea what you just started, and neither does your car whatever you have. My 250hp all motor CRX will roast whatever you bring. Street, time, and date and we'll settle this.

  • @1000hpHONDA Alright, I tell you what. If you're anywhere near the ft worth area of texas, I'll race you. But after you win, you have to follow me, doing what my car was made for. I guarantee your cute little CRX can't take mud or hills like my jeep. Yeah, you'll beat me in a race. But I don't need speed when I can use your little matchbox as a flex ramp.

  • i ♥ v-tec

  • Do vtec systems still only kick in at 4500 rpm or are they now more intelligent and kick in at different rpm ranges?

  • @ramentasty8 depends on the engine. I have a 1,6 Vtec engine (B16B) and Vtec kicks in at 6200 rpm

  • who gives a shit

  • V-TAK

  • Honda goes "bwahhhhh." Honda after vtec kicks in goes "BWAHHHHHH!!!!!"

  • "provides good low end torque for strong acceleration" I loled pretty hard at that one

  • @Squalestang92 whenever i hear torque in the same sentence as honda i eat a kitten then laugh

  • @Squalestang92 He means that it has good torque for the low end gears..

  • In other words, Vroom Vroom, Vtec kicks in, +1,000 hp.

  • to produce MORE power .

  • @Marshmallowrex no need to talk trash

  • why don't they use eccentric cams like everyone else?

  • Cool

  • 0:18 VTEC JUST KICKED IN YO

  • I drive an 07 Si Coupe, I love it, can't beat it for the money. However! I love the Vtec/Honda jokes! Some of the comments in these videos get me on the floor laughing. VTEC engaged in proper fashion yo! That's great stuff! I think Si's are the shit but still find this stuff hilarious.

  • Comment removed

  • ok i have vtech in my v6 accord...but i',m trying to figure out when does it actualy work ... i mean the car is fast but i still cant tell when does it kick in

  • @michaelmariez 3500 rpm

  • @michaelmariez Youll be able to hear it..

  • @michaelmariez you mispelt "slow"

  • Don't you just love your Variable Valve Timing and Lift Electronic Control? I know I do.

  • "VTEC engaged in a proper fashion, yo!"

  • Like

  • 0:21 BRRRAAAAAAABAAPAPAPAPAAAAAAAA

  • If people don't like vtec and have nothing to do but bitch about it why are you watching the video. I don't like ricers either but god damn get a life and take your bitching some place else

  • @TheManGuyDude the zr1 takes the cake 95 percent of the time and the track car you are talking about would be an indy car

  • Good info.

  • Hey guys rate and subscribe to my video's i got a few Vtec runs in my honda and you can really hear it kicking in

  • so vtec is a viarable cam... why not put in a longer cam duration...oh i get it restrict the car for economy at low rpm and then boost it for acceleration... its like saying look i have walking shoes on look how effecient i am... the vetc engages... oh i put my running shoes on now look how efficient i am at running... thus vtec is only for gas efficiency not overall power through speed.

  • @fatqwert200

Exactly, there is nothing really special about VTEC when you think about it.

  • @CJAEY 1: It sounds fucking awesome when you hit vtec. 2: You can just cruise and not use heaps of fuel. 3: When you boot it and reach the certain amount of revs you can get more power out of the engine.

It does serve a purpose and a good one at that, you're a fool for thinking that there is nothing special about it.

  • @lukebailey457 I got a fix for ya! 1: It sounds fucking awesome when the turbo starts boosting. 2: You can just cruise and not use heaps of fuel. 3: When you boot it you can get more power out of the engine without having to rev like crazy. ;)

  • @fatqwert200 How could it not be about power, it opens the valves which allows more fuel/air in the cylinder, therefore giving the engine more power. It is for both fuel efficiency and power.

  • @lukebailey457 vtec doest give the engine extra power. if the engine is made so that it has 200 hp@6000rpm, adding vtec dosnt increase hp. if the engine produces 100 hp at 2000 rpm and 200 at 6000rpm vtec is there so that it allows the engine to opperate at 5000 rpm and produce 200 hp instead of at 6000 rpm. if max shifting is at 5000 rpm you would miss the oprotunity to make 200hp. so vtec overall changes the rpm band so that the engine can produce its max hp at a lower rpm.

  • @lukebailey457 but in reality get a stroker motor... longer connecting rods produce a lower hp band. my type 1 vw beetle produces 50 hp at 4500 rpm but if i get longer connecting rods i would get 50 hp at 3500 rpm. less time to rev= faster car ;assuming hp band derivative stays the same

  • Yeah, uh huh, you know what it iiis, crackin vtec crackin vtec crackin vtec crackin vtec

  • dont forget the chrome hubcaps and 3 foot wing add 1000 horsepower as well if youre blax

  • "Provides good low end torque"

Everyone knows honda engines lack torque, but no one cares because it's got vtec <3

  • I got a question.. pretty stupid but i'd like to get an answer for that

can I install V-Tec on any car?

if so how much HP will it add?

    thanks guys

  • @LPWWE06 VTEC doesn't add more HP omg -.-

  • @TheDM75 well now ive got way more knowledge than i had when i posted that comment so i can reply you

that it does add more HP :) if it didn't whats the whole point of making that system?

  • @LPWWE06 Hmm, so tell me how does it add more HP?? The point of the system is to provide good acceleration and fuel economy at the same time, as far as i know it has nothing to do with HP, but i might be wrong.

  • i was waiting at the end for him to say..so than the vtec kicks in yo..lol but o well.

  • My del sol videos have audible VTEC crossovers. Not going to lie, they sound POWERFUL!!

  • VTEC JUSK KI--.... AW fuck it....

  • vtec ((:

  • Or you can get an subaru impreza wrx sti.

    My vtec goes braaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaa

  • i've heard of the terms big vtec and small vtec... what do they mean by this ?

  • i still dont really get how it works and what it does exactly. can some1 plz help me. thanks :)

  • V-TEC just KICK in me yo

  • HORRY SHEEEET VTEC KICKED IN!!!!!!!!!!!!

  • variable valve timing...also called overdrive ...honda trolled all of you trololololol

  • my neighbor is a honda mechanic. he tells me vtec is just a load of crap basically...

  • @dwnrety1 your neighbor is a dumbass

  • "Under 4500rpm, this cam profile provides good low end torque for strong acceleration" HAHAHA Nice joke.

  • the way it works is VTEC KICKED IN YO!

  • im a volkswagen guy. and i think honda is the best vehicle manufacturer out there.

  • @MachiineGunFunk

You know, the same as me..! :)

  • Really a cool piece of engineering/technology. Too bad it has to be killed by so many ricer kids.

  • @DeathWish1331 there's a difference between ricers and tuners

  • @wutangforever369 There is, and it was killed by ricers. I have respect for tuners.

  • @wutangforever369 not all ricers are tuners but all tuners are ricers

  • sad part is vtec kicks in at 5500rpms.

  • way too many fast yo.

  • To produce more power!yeah!

  • does this come stock with cars or is it a mod?

  • @kinglynx only on honda civic SI models

  • @xstr33tr4cerx ah cool, , so if i buy a honda civic SI , ill get that really sick boost?

  • @kinglynx pretty much im not sure about how noticable the kick is with the modern civic si's because they probably made it a smoother transition for driver comfort but yah you get that high rpm power man. i would get a honda but in my town too many people build them so i went for a miata im a non conformist

  • @xstr33tr4cerx lol cool coz ive seen some videos and i was like :O I NEED SOMMA THAAAAAAAT... lol well props to u then man

  • GReaper147 Yeah.....with forced indutction...take that off and its just another victim.

  • @tyxium idk how much horse a vtec runs but i do know a subaru has 265 at the wheels with only 6 psi and non turboed it gets 222. and at a full bar they get 300+.

  • Boxer? Hahahaha

  • V-Tec just kicked in yo

  • its funny...all you need is a boxer engine and you kill vtecs. wonder why?

    Super

    Unbeatable

    Bad

    Ass

    Racing

    Unit

  • @GReaper147 Subaru has their own VTEC-like system, it's called AVLS

  • @GReaper147 nice joke, fagboy.

  • @TheDM75 Im sooooooo happy you like it!!!!! i dont even own a subie haha i was just playing. i havent seen a v-tec vs. a subaru sti but it wud be a close one in a straight line. but on a road course awd and rwd just gets faster lap times.

  • VTEC is ricer's GOD!

  • Ok so whenever I beat some kid with a civic and he tells me he lost by a mile because his VTEC didnt kick in this is what he is talking about? I always thought it was some sort of a turbo boost but its just a glorified air intake forcing more volume into the manifold. Learn something new everyday.

  • @boosted05stang You just described a turbo.

  • @boosted05stang lol, I don't know how on earth vtec wouldn't kick in. Bad ECU if that was ever the case but he was clearly lying. vtec is only to save fuel at low rpms when they think you don't need the power. It does give better gas mileage so that is the only reason it is used by other manufacturers as well. Similar to what GM did with turning off cylinders for fuel economy but not as extreme.

  • for those who didint understand this video.. all its saying is vtec goes BWAHHHHH!!!

  • i'm sorry did this video just mention torque and vtec in the same video?

  • @f575gtc Yeah too much information for your IQ... sorry kid.

  • what is that thing??!! is this a video of how to use an express machine?

  • VTEC just put me to sleep, yo.

  • ugghhh my brain hurts...

  • vtec improves the volumetric efficiency of a four stroke, variations of the system were designed solely to provide improvements in fuel efficiency,

  • VTEC just kicked in, yo.

  • COULDNT THE CONCEPT OF VTEC AND PERHAPES EVEN SIMILAR PARTS BE USED ON OTHER COMPLETY UNRELATED CAR ALMOST AS IF MAKING A VTEC ENGINE

  • @flamingarse1 It is, Nissan/Toyota/Mitsubishi all did a similar thing following Honda's lead, in fact the latest Ford Mustang has a form of VTEC

  • @llynellyn I KNEW MY LITTLE BROTHER WAS FULL 100% PURE COLUMBIAN SHIT

  • @llynellyn yes your right toyotas form of v-tec is called vvti.

  • honda made vtec because if you just wanna cruise you can but if you need the power stomp on it. its doesnt take that long for a car to hit 4500 rpm.

  • VTEC JUST KICKED IN YO!

  • I'm not much of a Honda guy but a friend of mine said you can change the Vtech to much lower rpm, but from what I got from this video that might take some power away...

  • "...therefore giving you a gain of approximately 3,000 horsepower".

  • Sucks to know that you only get power after 4500 RPM.

    Lol.

  • @BoardTHPS 4500 RPM is just an example. It differs from car to car but yeah it kinda sucks.... lol

  • @BoardTHPS that really depends on the engine.

  • @BoardTHPS yes. A real motor makes its power much lower than that.

  • Funny How A White Guy Narragates This, I Was Expecting An Asian Dude With An Accent..

  • can i get a thumbs up for nothing?

  • @ahmedsiddiqi90 i'm givving you thumb up by nothing :D

  • @ahmedsiddiqi90

    there you are good sir

  • @ahmedsiddiqi90 hahahaha best comment ive seen on youtube... yes u sure can!!!!

  • I bet the person who invented this gets all the bitches

  • watch?v=1f36lmUj80k

  • sick of people coming in with all the turbo-drag-machine-killer info, saying how far they can beat every models of Honda or just about anything that runs. K20A = a typical size, buff, domestic cat who lost a running race to a big ass lion who later comes in and starts making fun of how he could outrun any damn cat on earth.

  • lol looks like what could be happening on a ka24a stuck, lol 4 cylinder with 12 valves xD

  • Get a turbo

  • and still weak, so you need one cam at lower rpm and then one in high rpm hahhaha

  • @ilovtuners no it wont...

  • i asked my tecnology teacher in school how VTEC works ( i already knew i just asked him because he thinks he knows everythin) so i asked him how it works and he said ''ah i dont know now'' then the other tecnology teacher walked into the room and my tec teacher said to me ''ask Mr carr he might know'' and i asked him and he didnt know either so i told them how it worked and they both said ''sure if that happened you wouldnt have a engine left '' .idiot teachers they havent a clue

  • @ilovtuners lmfao do you go to mount carmel college or woodville high school? those teachers sound familiar btw vtec engines r shit, it is only activated at a certain rpm with an on and off basis, similar technology by toyota called vvti and dual vvti constantly adjusts the cams according to rpm CONSTANTLY, so it is more efficient then an on and off system like the vtec. a built 3.4 2jz with vvti would shit over any honda engine and over almost every other engine out there. look up titan supras

  • @InitialDirt na scoil dara in ireland ,ye but a 2jz is alot of money and the power that VTEC can make is fairly decent now for like a 1.5 sohc vtec all the way up to a 3.0 VTEC

  • in order for vtec to work the ecu needs 5 parameters met:

    1.coolant temp

    2.oil pressure

    3.speed

    4.throttle position

    5.engine rpm

if any of them arent to spec the vtec solenoid wont engage vtec

  • @dm86pf coolant temp? dont think so that hardly changes, oil pressure yes. speed no. most important thing is rpm and oil pressure.

  • @salibs vtec isnt totally rpm dependent it also factors in engine load

@duramax my 2.0 turbo makes 340 ft/lbs with only a tune so yeah small motors cant make torque sure and you cant turbo cam and tune your car for $2000

  • Vauxhall Eco-tec (from the 1995 Astra 1.6) is a far superior system.

  • can anyone tell me if vtec is still activated if you hit 4500rpm without flooring it? e.g say turbo kicks in at 3000rpm....if you gently ease into 3000rpm...turbo will not kick in...is it like that in vtec? or does vtec kick in regardless how hard you step on it?

  • @Salibs VTEC will always kick in man no matter what

  • honda cant afford turbo's... the result... "v-tec" ... proud subaru driver maself (y) twin turbo ftw

  • But will it blend : P

  • some people have all the vtec-_-

  • 47 gay or woman saw this film... Gay's don't be injured :D

  • @Jedras992 or 47 real men saw this video.. wow im so impressed that hondas need all this stuff just to make an engine have 90hp , you can get a 5L v8 that has 5x the torque and power then ur honda , my 6.6L duramax makes 800ftlbs of torque my lugnuts require 100ft lbs each, that means ur honda doesnt even make enough torque to tighten my lugnuts

  • @duramaxjad4 But Hondas engine have only 1,5 liter capacity and they reach 8,000RPM or more. U are from U.S.A and in your country Dodge Viper from 8.3 V10 produces embarrassing 600HP, and i'm convinced that engine dont reach 8.000RPM. In Europe 600HP have mower. For example: Mercedes SLR 5.4l, V8 have 680 HP. But i like yours americam muscle cars like Dode Challenger or Charger. If my saying have some errors, i'm sorry. :)

  • @Jedras992 thers one thing your cars dont have, and thats torque, foreign cars lack torque, and it may have a few more hp but i dont think that 50hp is worth $100,000 diffrence, i can turbo my car and cam it and make 2x the power you have for about $2,000

  • @duramaxjad4 Maybe you have a right, but american and european cars have another specification. In nature must be balance. Yours cars are fast on the straight, ours cars are good in corners. :)

  • @duramaxjad4 youre the biggest hater. i saw you like comment on 3 different honda videos. talking about your duramax. lol i guess its true. haters spend more time thinking about you then worrying about themselves xD. im a car enthusiast so suck it.

  • @Jedras992 the dodge viper engine COULD get more than 600 hp, but it's designed for power at all RPM's. not for a high, short peak power. that's why it's the fastest car to ever go around leguna seca

  • @KyleKatastrofee Acura isnt that bad. get behind the wheel of a TL or TSX and youll change your mind. But they are over priced.

  • This is all bollocks, GM invented VTEC back in '54 and Honda STOLE the technology after the patent expired, even then it still took them a decade to make it work in a commercial vehicle. Honda didn't invent shit!

  • Fuckin English please.. Lol

  • you guys are all retarded. checkout Bisimoto's f22a 9 second HONDA ENGINE. as a matter of fact check out all of his cars. 700whp civic wagon, 435whp 9sec f22, 12 sec d15 crx full body, 10sec d15 unibody crx and his new 534 honda cr-z. then try and talk more shit. ;). By the way i would love to see any of your domestics try and keep up with a nsx(c32) and the f20 s2000 on the circuits. so stfu about how much hps you make with your domestics on the straight way.

  • @petervsays

A FWD car, whether or not it's domestic would have horrible torque steer at that much power.

It doesn't exactly make up for the fact that you probably drive a Honda Civic with nothing more than a fart cannon and an aftermarket air intake.

  • Comment removed

  • @petervsays I should also mention that you're providing an example of an engine that has been heavily modified. I have no issue with Honda, or Civics at all, but when you're using examples of heavily modified cars with ridiculous amounts of power that are virtually undriveable, you might as well compare it against equally modified cars.

  • @Shrewmy ok lets take the f20c for example. winning best motor built because it produces the most power per cc. these little motors arent definitely built for drag unless you got the time and money, but its the most reliable motors. the great things about these motors is that A LOT OF THE PARTS are interchangeable amongst each other.

  • MORE POWER!...hahaha!

  • stupid explanation. It's always the same purpose: having as much air as possible. So, it's just a question of acousitcs.

later came the problems of in-cylinder air movments ...

  • I see I see...

  • V irtually

    T orqueless

    E conomy

    C ar

  • @brooklyntheredone lol good one :-)

  • Cant you just keep you valva open all thetime fail

  • @MrMister1227 You can but it wouldn't run smoothly or be economical below the VTEC point. VTEC is like having 2 engines in 1 - an economical high-torque engine in low-rpms, and a racing engine in high-rpms

  • @AccordGTR i dont understand why people preach this vtec stuff, if you think for a second you may realise vtec is designed for even better fuel economy, and it is far from a racing engine hahaha

  • @hb22man Uh, 185hp output from just 1.6 litters (B16B) or 125hp per liter (F20B) STOCK was only accomplished in racing engines before VTEC came around. VTEC engines still put out the highest HP per liter rating of any engine today. My Civic SIR race car with blue-printed engine puts out 178whp from 1.6L VTEC with all-stock internals yet retains all its driveability in idle and low-rpms. Thats the beauty of VTEC

  • @AccordGTR i can see how it would be nice to have driveability like that, but a stock vtec is still miles away from being a race motor. 185 horse is good considering the weight of the car. how reliable is it with stock internals? im a chevy guy i like my v8s, considered going honda before but just gotta love the sound of a cammed v8.

  • @hb22man I had a 67 Camaro 327 that I modified myself in high school so I know Chevy's very well but they have no where near the handling of a 1000 kg Honda Civic race car with Tein N1 suspension. With my modified 175whp Type R EK9, I beat a heavily modified 300whp Evo7 and a 993 GT2 (450hp Porsche) in our local circuit in track attack competition. Our Honda race cars with stock engines would run 4-hours straight in Enduro racing here in the Philippines where track temps reach over 110F
