Backlund was a tremendous wrestler but much maligned. The putdowns are always directed at his lack of promo cutting ability. He either was all quiet ("Well, golly gee, you know . . . ") or screaming like a lunatic like in the video where Peter Maivia attacked Arnold Skaaland (the "No No NOOOO!!" video). No one can ever knock his in-ring skills - he could do it all.
Those good ol' Superstar vs Jobber matches... Man I miss that golden WWF logo! Bob Backlund was scarier than the Undertaker and Papa Shango combined...
@MyHeadAsplodes His psychology is what exemplifies a true heel in the ring. Mr. Backlund was my role model for wanting to become a professional wrestler. Today after eleven years, I like to think that maybe I am half the man as he was in the ring.
