  • I want that turtle toy!

  • eric laithwaite

  • what if you face the two turtles off to the side....but both of them to the same side. Does it break in half? lol...i imagine it just spins normally, like all the other positions...but it makes me wonder

  • such command of the engrish ranguage

  • I've a feeling he said something really important only I can't understand anything with his accent.

  • This guys english is better than most Americans.

  • @cmstair Did you say that before you saw that he was a Cambridge Doctor? :)

  • the bruce lee of phisiccs

  • "But if you try to force them to go backwards, they´ll say NO NO NO NOO! We won´t go backwards! I laughed a while xD

  • @Kranaika Well, Japanese are mad (look at all these things they invent)... but they're funny and likeable, especially when they try to make you believe their inventions are so much fun and they say "NO NO NO NOO!" (or anything as funny as that) :p

  • I wonder if he makes his wife spin??? O.o???

  • @rebornvisualministry

he has spinning toys for his wife too

  • this guy teaches me maths

  • Since turtles ONLY like to go forward and not backward, then we should be voting as many of them as possible into the government and especially the Department of Treasury!!!

  • not true that nobody looked at this turtles thing before. A variation of it, called celt or rattleback , is a very very old, pretty much prehistoric European thing.

  • he sounds like takei in futurama... hhahahahaha

  • turtleback toys applied to Earth...yeah

  • where can i get some?

  • cool

  • Just broke an egg! Thanks.

  • he has an accent. which means that english wasnt his first language. english was my first and only language and i have no accent. why is it that his vocabulary is way more expanded than mine? now i feel like an idiot. thank u world

  • i have the first one

  • i was just amused by the toys.. i didn't understand a single thing he explained

  • Did anybody notice that he mentioned that every 1 million year the magnetic poles exchange, wich some people talk about when talking about 2012. But I don't think that every human will die because of that. And that toy WAS AWESOME!

  • ambot nimo.........,,

  • 2:28, please, the "what" behaviour?

    Thanks.

  • chiral behaviour - it means something that isn't identical to its mirror image

  • Thanks!

  • lol @ "no, no, no, no, no..."

  • COOL toy

  • I want one of those spinning turtle toys!

  • Bruce Lee?

  • hes sooo cute :P

  • lol

  • soooo japanese!

  • This guy is really energetic; keeps the video interesting.

  • damn... too much on my mind... need to explode...

  • mathmateekalmodeel

ROFL I love it when he says it at 3:20 +

  • I'm sorry if this is too much for you little brain capacity to enjoy.

In other words, You need to go bye bye! Yes?

  • why is every body saying a ton of stuff???!!!

  • cos you stumbled into New Scientist. Run, RUN NOW!

  • ooh this is at the BRLSI in Bath! some very clever people in there

  • The Earths core is liquid metal gyrating in 3 directions. This converts the kinetic energy of friction-less liquid rock, at very high temperatures, to potential energy - except there is no place to point the sign of the potential energy vector (up and down, left and right) so instead you have to draw to the CENTER of the earth.

You can work backwards from 9.8m/sec to convert that potential energy into the equivalent kinetic energy preserved as momentum inside the center of the earth.

  • How do i get a turtle!

  • Interesting

  • @bbcritters: then I don't understand your comment. The reason why matter is attracted to the center of the Earth as nothing to do with the Earth magnetic field but is purely based on gravity.

  • again im sry i havnt replied, i just hapnd back to this vid @ saw all of your comments.

my comment was left open on purpose to generate some discussion, which is the ONLY way to change perspective. (as opposed to arguement)

current science has looked at this 3D universe through 2D equipment. im sorry but they only have about 1% of the right answers.

  • @ bccritters:

2 cont'd) That is essentially how gravity works. This distortion of spacetime causes all matter to "roll towards" massive objects, just as the marble did.

    3) It is very naive to assume that we cannot gain concrete knowledge of the universe despite our limited ability to observe it. In any case, none of our equipment is 2-D, since our universe has many dimensions and our equipment is obviously part of the universe. I don't even fully understand your point.

  • something is going awry with YouTubes response system. our comments dont seem to match up with the posts properly. the post that i am seeing this attached to doesnt make any sense., as well as a few of my comments to yours.

im sry for the confusion, i think this could have been a grand conversation.

  • Ok, my question was for bbcritters (for some reason it doesn't appear right after it).

On another note, Dr Tokieda talks about chirality concern as a new concern. Chirality has been discussed for a very long time (at least 200 years) in chemistry, and does concern dynamics of molecules too. I'm sure he knows that, but that would have been worth pointing out as this leads to very similar concepts and studies.

  • Awesome crazy Asian guy

  • Just wiki polar shift, it's a very fascinating geological phenomenon. Could be why the Earth is wobbling now. Perhaps a plausible 2012 Mayan doomsday scenario...?

  • polar shift is something that takes a long time. The Mayan's never once predicted the end of the world. Just cause a calender ends doesnt mean the world does.

  • how do you know that? have you ever experienced a polar shift before?

    me either...

  • @bccritters:

    2) As it happens, we do know quite a bit about gravity. To make an extremely long story short, matter distorts the fabric of spacetime around it. To visualize this, think of spacetime as a stretchy, elastic surface. When you put a heavy object on it, it pulls the surface down according to how heavy it is. Then imagine putting a marble near the heavy object. The marble will roll towards the object because the surface is curved.

  • i wasnt disagreeing with the possibility of polar shift, only the length of time it takes for one to occur.

i believe that it can take place extremely fast.

these spinning toys are great, and lots to learn from them. you must remember though, that these toys and tests are occuring IN a gravitational field, they are not THE gravitational field... do you understand?

  • I think we're talking about different things.

I never said anything about polar shift - I was merely responding to your comment:

"someone should explain that if the "metal" magnetic core theory was true, then why is ALL matter attracted instead of only ferrous matter..."

  • no, these posts are going to the wrong places. my response was directed at someone else entirely, i dont know how it got attached here.

  • I see. In any case, please read my posts carefully - you really should consider rethinking your understanding of physics.

  • i will rethink it.... ok im done.

your posts are exactly what i expect, no offense intended. no more, no less. i dont claim to be a mathmatical wiz, but i do know the generally accepted views of physics. well, at least i used to know them before i started to see how off they were.

anyways, i stopped all my reseach because of one simple thing. there is just too much to know, and NONE can be proven comepletely. that is why science changes so frequently.

    i claim to know nothing.

  • A reasonable claim, I'm sure. Have a nice day.

  • gravitational fields are not like electromagnetic fields. One obvious difference is that the field lines we all see in pictures of magnetic fields follow very different paths. Gravity has no poles, and gravity appears to have no opposite force.

No darck energy is not anti gravity its differnt.

  • all forms of energy and fields are directly related, it is just their orientation that changes. form(shape), state(energy levels), perspective(orientation)

pictures of magnetic fields are 2 dimmensional which only shows you less than 1 percent of a 360degree 3 dimmensional sphere of what is REALLY going on.

even new computer models that supposedly show 3d images were designed with the original 2D understanding of magnetic fields.

    huge mistake on their part.

  • We all experience polar shift all the time. Its more of a wobble then a shift.

Science does not have all the answers true, but it is willing to admit that and thats why its answers are so good. If science accepted an answer as fact it wouldnt be so open to new ideas.

The amount of energy needed for a fast polar shift would require something like a massive asteroid, or the moon hitting it.

And yes people who dont study physics always seem to confuse forces. Electromagnetism is not gravity.

  • This guy is really cool! He has a lot of energy and clearly has passion for what he's talking about! I approve!

  • I was so surprised to see that he wasn't an African.

After all, we know that there is no such thing as 'race', all the 'races' are the same, etc. but I just never seem to see Africans inventing anything, being scientists, building satellites, writing computer programs, etc....

    I wonder why.

  • @ZebraJones01 he does not need your approval :P h

  • It´s bruce lee!

  • .................

  • awwsuuuum

  • this guy is a dude

  • So turtles are causing global warming?

  • Precisely.

  • I love the fact that I got thumbs down for that.

  • Hahahaha, I've been giving it thumbs ups every time I see it, just so it's at a normal rating at the very least, hahaha.

  • lol nice of ya.

  • Haha, he just seems like he's having so damn much fun! It's like when I talk about music or writing.

  • nive vod. someone needs to tell this guy something like.... the magnetic field of earth is probably coz of our spin aroung a metal core... and of nibiru approaching and how it will make the earth stop spinning for 3 days when it comes past and after the allignment the planet spins the other way. so poles shift. xx

  • someone should explain that if the "metal" magnetic core theory was true, then why is ALL matter attracted instead of only ferrous matter...

    superconductor

  • All matter attracted by what ?

  • to the center of the earth

  • @bccritters:

The Earth has both a magnetic field and a gravitational field. These are two different things.

"ALL matter" is attracted to the Earth because of its gravity.

The theory that the Earth's magnetic field is caused by convection currents of molten metal in the Earth's core is indeed correct, though of course we'll never be able to actually observe those currents directly.

  • sry i have not replied to these posts, your posts never reached my comment box.

i totally understand what you are saying, but simply saying that the force IS gravity doesnt explain WHAT gravity is, how it is created, and where it is located.

in my own research i have found that ALL elements can become super-conductors, and EACH of them displays different properties. not all react the same way as the cool train vids that they have here on youtube.

again i say, core is a superconductor

  • @bbcritters:

    1) I'm aware that saying that the force "IS gravity" does not explain the nature of gravity. However, the force nonetheless "IS gravity" - whether we know what gravity is or not.

  • @bccritters:

Also, your theory that the Earth's core is not metal, but is in fact some other element that is acting as a superconductor, makes no sense whatsoever.

A superconductor is a material that conducts electricity with negligible resistance. Now, for any conductor to produce a magnetic field, there must be a CURRENT of ELECTRICITY running through it. I hope you aren't suggesting that there is a current of electricity running through the Earth's core. What would generate it?

  • then here is the confusion... not all superconductors have the same properties.

your definition only applies to the commonly KNOWN superconducting properties.

"imagine what they will KNOW tomorrow" :)

um, and to say that there is no electricity going through the earth is wrong. even a basic meteorologist knows that there is electricity in the atmosphere that discharges to the earth and vice versa.... lightning.

  • I did not say "through the earth", I said "through the Earth's core". It is ridiculous to suggest that the static discharges between the surface of the earth and the atmosphere could create a current through the center of the earth and cause a magnetic field to be generated. Also, you mentioned "your own research." I am interested in the nature of that research, and what 2-D apparatus you used to conduct it. Please enlighten me.

  • angelc01, your comment reminded me of the apocryphal story of one of Captain Cooks men attempting to log and name all the new animals in Australia. Seeing a new creature he would ask what it was called an write down what he heard. On seeing a Kangaroo, he asked what it was and his Aboriginal guide said, 'Kangaroo'. Roughly translated this means, 'buggered if I know.'

  • Pity that that's just an Urban legend

  • these toys remind me of the boomarang mabe we should ask the aboriginies how it works

  • Wow.

  • weiiird

  • whats he goin on about

  • Excellent video. Super presentation. This guy should get a series.

  • yeah, I love this guy! love his enthusiasm.... and the turtles too.

  • Should be possible to easily make one of these 'toys'

  • haha! turtels haha! kool vid :)

  • what would happen to people if earth's magnetic field was to reverse?

  • Tell them you want a refund on your compass.

  • great research. Who would have thought a toy canoe would begin explaining the earths magnetic field.

As someone explained to Stephen H "it's turtles all the way down" ...

  • im impressed, good post

  • COOL!

  • May God help your dumbass.

  • I can only hope God has a sense of humor.

  • why?

  • look at yourself in the mirror(don,t take this as an insult) then you,ll know God has a sense of humour it worked for me lol

  • Earth's magnetic field have never been proven to reverse, and probably never will.

  • My understanding of the evidence is that you can exam iron ore which was known to be cooling at a certain period(due to radiation dating), and based on the direction of magnetization, you can deduce the pole orientation. Locking in of magnetization of domains is fairly well understood science - I don't think there is a great deal of controversy here, you have any evidence to contradict it?

  • Oh dear. Briefly, magma wells up along mid-ocean ridges and solidifies into basalt. You can see this with your own eyes in Iceland. As it solidifies small magnetic "domains" align with the Earth's magnetic field. The direction of the domains matches the field. By looking at older basalts we can see the direction of the field at the time of solidification. The record in the rocks shows frequent complete reversals of direction. There is good reason to believe that another reversal is "imminent".

  • "Earth's magnetic field have never been proven to reverse, and probably never will"

I cant even start to wonder why you would say such a thing, is it some crazy religous thing ? or do you get everything from the internet. Read a book, maybe try getting a education.

  • nice, I want one of those turtle toys

  • dam cliffhanger

  • That must be a very rewarding field of study.

  • Intresting!

I have a Eulers disc, they're great fun.
