  • omg your review is great i completely agree with you. I don't understand how people can defend gerard butler, i mean he's not a singer he can't sing. and the point that he's hot is worthless because the phantom is not suppose to be hot and young. as for the deformity i really think it could have been scarier, it should have made it tragic that this deformed man loves christine, but they don't convey that

  • it looks like a real deformit an i love his sing its awesome gives me chills

  • @leopardstar5556 XD lol I learned that a few months after posting the comment :) and I very much agree with your other comment :)

  • I personally love Mme. Giry's accent. And I listend extreamly closely to the french dub on my DVD (fyi, Erik's french dub voice is so freaking seductive, it's amazing) and I'm almost entirely positive she did her own french dub. Correct me if I'm wrong, please.

  • Fangirls of this movie are, dare I say it, worse than Twilight fangirls. They get all over your case if you even dare to suggest that Gerard Butler was not suited for the role. I had commented on one video saying that ALW clearly didn't understand the story very well when casting Gerard, and a faithful little Gerry fangirl replied with "I think he understands the story well. He wrote it!" Ah, the ignorance this movie has supplied us all with.

  • My friend and I were discussing this film the other day. She wondered why the phantom was bald and had a bruise. I thought the latter alone was worth sharing.

  • Agreed 100% about the deformity! While I love this musical and enjoy the film, the unmasking is a let down. However I don't blame Butler for that, seeing as he has played a few badasses before, I'd think he'd want to look as nasty and horrifying as possible. Great Review and the ending was hilarious!

  • Ppl r always down on Gerald's singing voice! I was personally blown away from how good he was (may even go so far as to say he sounded better than Crawford)

  • you're over thinking those teeny tiny flaws, i mean it didn't take anything away from the story. And the whole eye thing, really? he didnt shoot all his scenes in one day, they weren't gonna make him wear the prostetic the whole time. it was time consuming to make and (according to him) very uncomfortable.

  • I think Gerard Butler is a great singer and really good in this movie. Thought the whole wig thing i didn't get cause when she first took the mask off the wig didn't come off and his hair was not slicked back and a wig wouldn't go all out of slick back form .

  • I agree with you with Erik's deformity in this one. I first heard of the plot of Phantom of the Opera when i watched this movie, so beforehand I sort of knew that there would be a deformity. When it was finally shown though, I literally said " they're being this dramatic over a RASH??!!!!" I was very dissapointed

  • I always thought that it was very hypocritical of this movie to give Erik a wimpy deformity. They want you to feel bad for the hideously deformed character who was never understood or loved, and they want you to learn to look past all the ugliness and see what's on the inside, all that good stuff. But it totally defeats the purpose to have him be "sexy" and everything, doesn't it? It's hard to feel bad for him with that face. The only thing I really pitied was his singing ability.

  • Every time I look at Miranda Richardson, I see Queen Elizabeth from Blackadder II!

  • I thought you'd like to know that Miranda Richardson's ponytail in Phantom was fake! wigWigWigWig! WIG! or in this case, WEAVE!...0_o

  • You had me laughing-out-loud about Richardson's accent. So bloody ridiculous and out of place.

  • PS_I couldn't agree more with your opinion about Argento...& I know his works being Italian ya know, trashy-gory-silly AWFUL(+overrated, anyway check out PROFONDO ROSSO & SUSPIRIA, for his best)!

I guess his few inspired moments over the years had been mostly thanks to his staff & former inspirations from other directors like Bava, even if I've never seen myself those other films to can tell for sure, to be fair..however I'm going to check out your review on it, I'm curious ;-D). Ciao

  • Great review, I agree with you (funny the phoney accent thing, sometimes when films are dubbed into another language, happen even oddest things...): in the end even if not too "conventional" I've appreciated this last version of the Phantom, regardless its flaws, especially for the photography/spectacle side of it which I usually like (& yep, sexy Butler too, but he didn't do that bad for the singing for me; let's say this version is less *light opera* & more accessible to all kind of public).

  • @Farfalla7Malva I agree with you about the light opera, if was really like a opera i would mute it and just watch Gerard Butler.

  • It's totally true, Phantom make-up here SUCKED

I could SHIT a better make-up job than what they had in this movie.......

  • @Dragonhobbit101 Amazing comment ha. Webber's completely sold out with Phantom. I used to love him, but over the past decade or so I think he's made some pretty poor decisions about his work.

  • I don't care what anyone says, I think Gerard Butler did a fantastic job with the character. His acting was great, and as far as his voice goes I simply must say fuck you because he sang AWESOME. I've worked with professional vocalists of the highest caliber and i will tell you that Butlers voice while not astonishing, was still quite impressive nonetheless.

  • @theSneakySasquatch You don't need to be rude about it.

  • @carihigs not rude, just passionately resolved. i stand firm by the opinion that this movie was indeed a classic.

  • i might be hated but i...........................................................

iiiiiiiiii lllllliiiiiiiiiikkkkkkkkkkkee BATMAN AND ROBIN. NOW I'M DEADDDDDDDDDDDDDDDDDDDDDDDDDDDDDDDDDDDDDDDDDDDDDDDDDDDDDDDDDDDDDDDDDDDDDDDDDDDDDDDDDDDD

  • I love how you "sang" the Overture. My sister and I do that all the time (of course, we never finish because we're laughing so hard...)

  • YES THANK YOU PHANTOM REVIEWER!!!! the makeup is wrong....he's NOT supposed to be sexy...if you mixed Lon Chaney with Michael Crawford, THAT is the real Phantom

  • I agree with everything you had to say, including the flaws. But this movie will always hold a special place in my heart, because it introduced me to the phenomenon that is Phantom of the Opera. I can see now that the film wasn't as great as I first thought it was- for example, I thought Gerard Butler was an awesome Phantom, until I saw videos of Michael Crawford and Ramin Karimloo. Then I knew that 'Phantom' was even more awesome than I already thought! :)

  • OMG! Your review is SO FUNNY! You're hilarious! I agree with the eye thing. They should have been more consistent with Gerard's right 'deformed' eye. Haha, yes it does look like he only fell down the stairs <3

Yeah, his face should have been way uglier... but the cinematogrophy, action and defintely the music is what makes this film great! I Love this film!

    Great and funny review!

  • THANK YOU. You said everything that I think about that movie. Especially your rant about the lack of deformity. I try to explain that to "phans" and all they say is, "But he's so sexy!" His charisma should make him so... not his face.

  • As much as I love Gerald Butler in this film...they coulda done soo much better with making him look deformed. In this, it looks like a really bad sunburn.

  • that was sooo funny! Thanks for the video

  • Michael crawford looks like he really has long arms in that suit

  • @ThePhantomofYT101 XD That was the point. He actually had his sleeves shortened to make his hands look longer.

  • phantom

  • Gerard Butler's voice was not meant for singing. I can't take him seriously in this role because I can't see him as a homicidal maniac obssessed with music, especially with that sunburn on his face. This is why I take the actors who play the Phantom on stage more seriously because they DO act like maniacs obssessed with music. And I can take the stage prod. deformity more seriously than that sunburn. And the Broadway costumes were better too. All in all, stage production is better.

  • @AngelofMusic902 Agreed.

  • This was the first version of the phantom i ever saw

  • Before i started to watch these i watched all of the phantoms i could lay my hands on. So far, i like how you review; i even agree with some points. Madame Giry has always had the worst accent, stage or film (the love never dies one, was in my opinion the worst of all accents). The unmasking was a horrid piece of shit, but i dont think the lon chaney one was any different. He always had a wig, on stage. They really didnt need to trap pretty boy. that was stupid.

  • In your opinion who is better at playing the role of Erik?:

    Michael Crawford and Gerard Butler.

  • WHAT MOVIE IS FROM 5:58? with the phantom with no mask?

  • @Cradlechick666 Its the Dario Argento version, please check out my hour long review on my channel. Its one of the worst Phantom movies of all time!

  • @PhantomReviews oh my god, that movie sucks so bad! and DARIO! THAT'S YOUR DAUGHTER!!!!

  • @PhantomReviews when you were complaining about his makeup at the beging of the movie he actually had the face deformity and he used the money from the movie to get plastic sergery for the rest of the film.

  • @rockandrollaf I heard him say that in an interview. Was he just joking? Did he have like a wart that he wanted to get rid of but didn't have enough money at the time to remove it? Can you explain this to me, please? :)

  • @nddlj no he was born with the face deformity but in the midddle of shooting he got enough money to fix the other side of his face and after that he continued shooting

  • @rockandrollaf late reply, I know :D

So... Gerard DID have some kinda of face deformity?

"no he WAS born with a face deformity"

How come I never heard of this? Unless I'm reading this wrong....?

  • @nddlj yes he WAS born with the face deformity

  • @rockandrollaf REALLY?!? What WAS his deformity?!?!?!!! Crooked nose? Lazy eye?

  • @nddlj lazy eye

  • @PhantomReviews ahhh don't watch it Cradlechick666

  • @Cradlechick666 The Argento version: If you haven't seen it BE GRATEFUL!!! It's the most terrible phantom movie ever made! DO NOT watch it. I repeat: DO NOT!

  • I have watched about ten of these reviews. I absolutely love them! :) The way you're cynical and really critically analyse things whilst being funny at the same time make them really enjoyable. I can't tell you how many times I had to go 'that is so true' while I was watching them. I look forward to more. :) God Bless xx

  • This was the first phantom version I saw and is my absolute favorite. All the actors did an amazing job. The Andrew Lloyd Webber musical is, without a doubt, my favorite version. i got to see it on stage in Las Vegas and it was AMAZING!!!

  • "Gerry fell down the stairs a few times.." that was nice.. LOL

  • This one will always be my favorite, be it because it starred Gerard Butler, or because of the beautiful music, or both.... most likely both.

there are things I don't like about it though, like how they don't explain how The Phantom really got his scar, and how is a man that is nearly as old as Madame Gerie(?) look about late 20's/early 30's?

But none of that will make me stop drooling over the sexy irish guy singing beautiful songs.

  • @CelticTears101 About his scar he was deformed so he was born with it

  • @foxonfire100 ah. that does make sence. Thank you!

  • I agree with a lot of this! This version is indeed beautiful, but the Phantom should have been played by someone who can sing & I don't mean rock either. I cringed in my seat during his MOTN. I like Gerard, but he's no Phantom. Definitely not my idea of the Angel of Music! Emmy was just...meh, okay. Her voice was a bit weak sounding. She also made the same face thru-out the movie, lol! Raoul was such a fop, but the actor is a real Broadway star so he was the real singer.

    ~Christine~

  • lmao "nice and colourful" X'D

  • I just have to say, when you video tape a play up close, you can NOT say someone can't act justly. When on stage, you HAVE TO over act or else the point won't get across. And in film, she was so used to stage work she didn't know how to tune it down. That's all I'm saying.

  • Rip the audio from this vid at soundnabber doht cohm.

  • 6:15

oh God I almost fell off my chair XD i always asked myself that.HOW COME NOBODY NOTICES?!XD

  • I think that all Phantom Review profits should go to paying for Christine's surgery to get a backbone, because God knows she needs one.

  • hes tooo hot for this movie! if you use him you need too add a lot more deformite, maybe like the 1989 one but less blood/gor and keep the nose for goodness sake!

still love the movie especially emmy- shes sooo cool!

  • I liked your comments, until you came to that Gerard Butler can not sing. It was the stupidest thing I've ever heard! Gerard Butler is the best guy singer I have ever heard. Dare not say anything else! And The Phantom of the Opera is the best story in the world. I love it so much! All your other comments are okay, I do not agree with you but they're okay to listen to. But it's not OK to hear that Gerard Butler can not sing, or that the story sucks. For it is certainly not true

  • @iddaj1 Heaven forbid someone should have a different opinion of Gerard Butler! Have you heard any man who's played the Phantom professionally? They blow Gerry Butler out of the water. I'm not saying he has a terrible voice. He can obviously hold a tune. It's just not suited for this role.

  • The funniest part of the unmasking is the guy in the audience at 4:27 who just puts his hand up to cover it up. HAHA

  • Some dumb girl in my theater tech class says that the phantom was burned. I tried to tell her that he was deformed and she was just like "shut up".

  • @godzilla964 In some 1940's version he was burned with acid, but that's the only one I can think of.

  • Yeah this movie reminded me of Mary Shelley's Frankenstein and Bram Stoker's Dracula. GORGEOUS sets and music, but most of the acting and emotion are lacking. I really agree about Butler. Granted I'm a guy, but while I see working a sexiness in movement and all, there's no way I can buy him as a deformed homicidal maniac obsessed with his music, especially with the lack of singing experience and proper make-up. It lacks any chance for threat and redemption. Broadway definately hit the mark more.

  • You should go through the entire movie like you did with the *Gulp* Dario Argento version. I'd love to hear your thoughts on all the separate scenes in this. You're awesome! And yea, the deformity was pretty bad. I can't believe it took them 4 hours to make it look so, MINOR! Really, I could make my face look like that in 10 mins!

  • I find it funny that people say gerard's voice was supposed to go with the character. But may I point out that he is supposed to have an amazing voice, an would probably need to be a good singer if he gives Christine singing lessons?

  • @simzproductionz

Singing teachers do not need to have good voices. They just need to know how to do it. A lot of great singing teachers are former singers who might have lost their voicedue to age.

  • maybe they downplay the deformity so much to show just how crazy and superstitious people in the 1800s were? i don't know i was disapointed in the deformity too

  • ...you will learn that the relationship between Phantom and Christine was always ment to be very sexual from the beggining of the creating of the musical. So again movie just follows that. But yaeh I would help you drown Joel Schumacher anytime for doing such a poor job with so much potential. Rrrrr

  • @KateOrta or for batman and robin.

  • Just let me say I love your reviews. They are hillarious and entertaining and you give a very good and interesting insights. However I have to disagree on couple of things you have mentioned in here. First the sequence of the kidnaping Christine after the point of no return comes from the original musical and movie just follows it. Second while I agree, that this Phantom is kind a turned upside down with good looks and not so great singing ;) -If you watch Behind the mask documentary...

  • I love Gerard, he is one sexy man, and I give the movie my seal of aproval. But I do have to agree with you about the "big reveal" of Phantom's face, very anticlimatic. When I first watched it I was prepaired to be horrified by his face, but then I was like "that's it?!" So good call.

  • @DuzieInuChick But do you think Gerard can sing?

  • I'd much rather had Lon Chaney than Gerard Butler. D:

  • What if he had a Jason Voorhees deformety.

  • I made myself watch the final unmasking recently and understood what you were talking about. As for Carlotta in this movie... Well, actually, Carlotta is insane in the whole story, period. She wants the fame for herself, and she loses it due to the incidents the Phantom causes. I like how that happens in the story. Christine really makes Carlotta pay. Carlotta can't even sing properly in this movie. Watch the first Think of Me scene next time and see if you agree with me, Reviewer.

  • Agree on many points, but not the singing. The only person who makes the whole thing worth watching is Patrick Wilson. Mmm. Luff him. I can't believe you didn't say anything about what a good job he does as Raoul in this movie.

  • Gerard Butler is an amazing singer, and so cute :)

  • Everything which you said about the face of the phantom in this movie is exactly the same as i thought whe i saw the movie. There is just no point of the story from this moment. There is no women who would not chose the phantom rather than that boring teenager looking Raoul it the Phantom looked like this. Why does he live in the underground lair with this cool appearance and feel miserable instead of living as a playboy above in Paris?

  • as much as i love your reviews, i have to say that i don't like how u make fun of Batman and Robin. My grandfather is the late Pat Hingle, who played Comissioner Gordon in every Batman film exept for The Dark Knight. I really do love your reviews but don't say mean things about the Batman & Robin movie. It hurts my feelings that something I love so much is hated by another thing i love so much. I'm only 14 so please don't say any hate comments to me

  • I love this movie, but you made me realize all the mistakes and funny things of the movie

  • holy crap! this made me laugh so hard!! You're so funny! and THANK YOU for this video review of this movie. Although charles dance is my favorite (saw your review great one too but I still love the movie to pieces). But anyway, yeah, Gerard...and the make up...or lack thereof!! STU-PID

  • @TheCamoTurtle

Lol I'm glad I'm not the only one XDD

    Isn't this guy great??

I also have an unhealthy obsession with all things P.O.T.O so it's really cool that I found this guy lol XDD

  • @mikmick13 yeah hes awesome and I also have a Disturbing Obsession with Everything POTO so yeah its Awesome :D

  • I forgot to rate. I added this just to give you 5 stars lol

  • I'm mad at you!! >:(

You made me laugh too loudly and I woke up everybody in my house :((

Lol especially at 4:44 XDDD I actually hit my face on the keyboard cuz I hunched from laughing so hard and taking in so much air XDD

  • @mikmick13 Lol i did too i also laughed at dadadadadaaadaa :)

(you make also reviews @Phantom Reviews)

  • haha i love that its so funny

  • Yeah, the movie definately has its bad points, but this is the first version I ever saw. It has a special place in my heart, much like you and the 1963 version. Although I still think this review is hilarious XD

  • I love this film and I hate this film. I love the atmosphere of it, and I love the music. But I can't stand Gerard Butler. His approach to the character just seemed too one-dimensional. I never sympathized with him...which should be paramount.

  • When you started that "dadadadaaaaah" singing I burstet out laughtingxD

No offens on your singing tho, it just hit me^^

  • 'Lets just get rid of the hump, it does nothing for his figure.-He's supposed to be freaking UGLY' Haha.

Coming from a huge Phan I truely thank you PhantomReviews, I haven't laughed So Hard in the longest time.

After watching your many reviews I can honestly say you make 'Mystery Science Theater' look like a Joke!

  • For your information, they casted Gerard Butler because of the natural rocky quality he had to his voice, WHICH, BY THE WAY, IS WHAT ANDREW ALWAYS WANTED THE PHANTOM TO HAVE. No offense to your opinion, just stating a fact. The fact that Gerry is sexy was just a plus.

  • @phantomchica01 Andrew recently said he was not happy with any musicals that were transfered to film so far. Butler was nothing more than eye candy( which defeats the purpose of the angel of music), because he sure wasn't holding his own vocally especially when compared to the stage actors.

  • @boondocks43 Well pin a rose on your nose.

  • I thought it was soo funny when you were talking about the deformities. Most girls could handle the ALW version, but they'd probably had to think about the silent movie version. XD your reviews are so entertaining and have alot of points to them.

  • Sorry PR, I am a huge fan of yours and usually I agree, but in this I do not, on one point. You rant about the Phantom wearing a wig, and having crazy hair underneath, that´s exactly what happens on stage, Not to be mean or anything, just pointing out. Keep up the good work!

  • Why did they get rid of Red Death's hat!!!! LOL on the Lon Chaney/Overture scene, haha!!!

  • I love Sarah Brightman. I was fortunate to see her in Concert.

  • I LOVE this movie, and love Gerry's Phantom. Saw this in theaters only 4 times. I agree with all you said except that I guess I like his voice a bit more than you. It's not what I'd imagine the character having of course but it fits the movie well. The only thing that REALLY has always bothered me about this film was the Sunburn of Doom. For f*cks sake his face seemed completely normal at some points in the Final Lair scene! The "deformity" was all about the lighting, it seemed. Not right.

  • :) i love you!!!!!!! your such a funny guy!

  • Very funny comments! Why did you think the wig thing was weird? They did that in the original musical... Or had Christine just ripped off his mask so hard that she pulled out a giant clump of hair with it? HA!

  • Oh, that poor, butchered masquerade scene :(. WHY DID THEY GET RID OF HIS FREAKIN AWESOME RED DEATH COSTUME? THAT THING WAS SO EPIC!

  • the play is so much more dramatic and impressive then any movie version could be. Like, when in the play they make the phantom's voice come from different places in the theater (in the book it says he is a ventriloquist) before he appears on the stage, or how they end it, with the mask illuminated on a pitch black stage while the orchestra plays haunting cords.

  • 6:02 lol i thought "WIG!!" ;-)

  • YES, they missed the POINT! The face is not horrible at all. Emmy and Gerard's voices were not able to give justice to ALWs grand composition.

  • I thought the voices were fine; Gerard had a sort of raspiness that seemed great for the part. But what I don't understand is why the make up was so bad in this. On stage his face freaked me out a bit. But in here, I felt the need to hand him some sunscreen.

  • I loved this movie. I mean, sure it has it's flaws, but hey, it was very entertaining to me. I sent my friend a pic of his face after we were arguing about how ugly it was and she agreed that it was pretty darn ugly. And at the end, I was also wondering why Christine just wouldn't get in the water. It wouldn't have been that hard! But I guess compared to some other Phantom movies, yeah this one is kind of weak.

  • As an actress, I think Brightman did a better job in Repo! but that's beside the point.

I remember the lifting of the chandelier in theatre really in-your-face when I first saw this movie. Even on DVD, it's still pretty damn epic.

I love the look of it too. The art and costume is a bit similar to those gorgeous vampire films of the early nineties like Dracula and Interview with the Vampire.

But I will agree with the flaws and I think it could have been a bit darker.

  • When it comes to his face, it those not matter to us, but in the years of the 1800

people saw you as a freak and nothing else. But It worked on one of my friends, she texted me and told me how ugly and horrible he looked. XD

  • The reason his hair gets all nasty is because it's a wig. IT'S A WIG!!!!!!!

  • Are you sirrous that he made an apolaogy for batman and robin

  • also, in the unmasking scene, the deformity does not fit his tiny little mask, and it suddenly grows like five freakin inches off his face, watch it in slow-motion and you will see what i mean.

  • lol you didn't mention that odd midget that follows Piangi around. wtf was up with him?

  • i hate the masquerade scene in the schuhmacher movie

its not coloured its so ... YELLOW! everywhere

  • 2:06 to 2:18 made me laugh soooooo bad!!! I LOVE LON CHANEY THOUGH♥ My favorite film version! I did like the movie though. it was the first version i ever saw and got me into Phantom. But after seeing Michael Crawford and Lon Chaney in the title role, I was amazed by them and Gerard gave a very nice performance. I do wish they had made it earlier w/ Michael and Sarah who I think have the most beautiful voices of all time, but i dont think i ever would have seen it. MICHAEL AND LON CHANEY!

  • DAMMIT, why didn't they do the same make up as the stage version?!?!?! >:(

  • I really wanted to see Michael Crawford in the 2004 movie. Gerard Butler has a nice voice, but he's a chain smoker and can barely hold a note for 10 seconds without coughing. He was only cast because Lloyd-Webber wanted the Phantom to be sexy, which is also cause for the lack of deformity. THE PHANTOM IS NOT SUPPOSED TO BE SEXY!!!!!!!

  • It would be so awesome if you review Phantom-inspired songs like "Phantom of the Opera" by Iron Maiden and Nightwish's heavy metal cover of "The Phantom of the Opera" from the Andrew Lloyd Webber musical.

  • To think this was released on my birthday!

  • Have you seen Brightman in Repo! Her bug-eyes were put to good use playing Blind Mag.

  • I was absolutely adoring the film (apart from Gerard's voice) until they took the mask off and I was like, That's IT?!

  • PhantomReviewer, I'm not sure if you've realized this by now or pieced it together, but during the unmasking scene when the hair changes, they meant it intentional that the wig came off just like in the musical, because it wasn't his real hair in the performance but to act as a mask for his balding head.

  • I just can't part with this movie for some reason. .___. Maybe there's a reason why I watch it in the French dubbing on the DVD. It is a bit...weird, though. It looks like Erik got a rash and acne at the same time.

  • lon chaney on the organ. lol "Dadadadada!"

  • hey reviewer do u really feel that brightman is really that good? just wondering

  • @zangetsumizu

You're not a fan of her than? I'm not. I don't hate her, but she's just meh for me. I REALLY don't like Crawford though. I don't get why some people like him so much. His voice is mediocre at best, and my opinion of him dropped even lower after Dance of the Vampires, where he butchered his role, Count Krolock, which was originated, and in my opinion perfected by his POTO costar Steve Barton in Vienna...

  • @MadameChristie well i have to disagree with u on crawford's voice cuz his voice is made better for music of the night. I personally feel if u can have combination of gerry's rock edge and michael's classical side wud jus be the best. and speaking of steve harley im sorry but that dude cant sing cuz have u heard him singing music of the night i have to say it was one of the worst versions i have ever heard.

  • @zangetsumizu I said Steve BARTON not Harley. I'm talking the original Raoul. He had quite the career in Vienna. He even played the Phantom - excellently - down there. I can't argue about MOTN being Crawford's song, but his voice in gheneral just doesn't wow me. A matter of opinion I guess. Oh, and if Butler's voice was combined with Crawford's, you'd probably get Colm Wilkinson (original Canadian Phantom). He was a great Phantom too, though he definitely took some getting used to.

  • @MadameChristie I have to correct myself. Barton was apparantly only Raoul in Vienna. But he did take over the title role in NY in 1990. So he WAS the Phantom, just in New York, not Vienna.

  • @MadameChristie my mistake thought u said harley but i have to disagree with u on the michael's and gerry's voice is not colm wilkonson because he use too much vibrato to in music of the night in the high notes. and my opinion of barton voice is that well hes is a gud singer but he has strong baratone voice which personally think that phantom should only be done by a tenor but yes you are right that he has nice voice than michael

  • @zangetsumizu Well let's a gree to disagree then. I happen to like baritone Phantoms quite a lot. They're a rare, but usually quite a treat when you can find them. Tenor Phantoms are still good though. The Phantom I saw live was John Cudia, the basic classicaly trained tenor, and he had a beautiful voice. And yes, Wilkinson does have quite a vibrato, but I've been listening to his POTO for so long now, that I don't really even notice it anymore. It was nice discussing POTO with you though :D

  • @MadameChristie same bout that last sentence lol and yes i do agree with on the colm wilkonson's version of the phantom's main theme that he doesnt use too much vibrato which i like because lets all be honest here thats not a classical song its pop/rock song and if u add too much vibrato into it kinda kills that feeling and sound

  • @zangetsumizu You know. I listen to that recording mostly for Rebecca Caine. She's my favourite Christine hans down

  • @zangetsumizu Where can I find the Harley version of MOTN?

  • @audiesgirl well i personally dont know but u can prolly find it on torrents but why do u wanna listen to him he make gerry sound like a pro

  • The Phantom is suppose to have a beautiful voice and a horrible face, not the other way around!

  • @yumichan899 oh nigga u cold lol

  • his singing sucks! AUGH. i hate gerard butler

  • Dear PhantomReviewer, thank so much for reminding me of the Phantom/Roual S&M bondage scene....i nearly died laughing when you mentioned it.XD

  • dude! i want to see brad pitt as quazimoto! (dont think i spelled that right..)

i LOVE this movie. i music never stops blowing my mind.

  • There's alot of MC/SB vs GB/ER debate going on in this thread. And I gotta say, as a lyric coloratura soprano and opera fan myself, neither duo is that great for playing opera singers. Seriously, guys. Look up Joan Sutherland, Sumi Jo, Renee Fleming- that's what Christine Daae ought to sound like. Same with the Phantoms. GB sounded like a rockstar and, while MC was a good singer, his voice has a thin, nasally, brittle quality that doesn't sound powerful or operatic.

  • He's not great, but GB isn't that bad.

Orignally, Hugh Jackmman was set to play the Phantom. Imagine, Wolverine as Erik!

But I agree with P.Reviewer. Music is awesome!

  • @SavageBroadcast Hugh Jackman would have been far better. at least he's a classicaly trained singer.

  • I don't see why they could'nt have got Crawford. He can probably still sing well, and for the Phantom it doesn't matter what age the actor is (whereas they definetely could'nt have used Sarah, as she would've been much too old for the role, but they could at least have got someone older than Emmy!).

  • @LerouxsPhantom because andy and michael had a falling out and michael was in the hospital when filming was.

  • I admit, there are better singers than Gerard Butler and that rock star voice... as sexy as it is, the Phantom did not sing like a rock star. They didn't even have it yet! But, Gerard Butler does have a little be of experience... not professional, and it was a rock band... he was in one of those garage rock bands while he was studying law...

  • which one is the wrost movie EVER

dario argento phantom of the opera

lioyd webber/schumacher phantom of the opera

  • @TheLizrd: Easily the Argento version. The Joel Schumacher one at least looked pretty.

  • @LerouxsPhantom yea i guss but i like 2004 movie that one is THE WOREST MOVIE I EVER SAWW IT SHOULD BE BAND

  • @TheLizrd so should your spelling

  • you can say one thing about the masquerade scene his red death was shiveringly stunning, most beautiful costume ever, the make up and the skull beautiful.

But the Don Juan Triumphant annoyed me as well...They could have made gerrie ulgier we would've still liked him.

And I am perhaps the only one who loves the scottish accent on the phantom, I know he shouldn't have it, but let's face it is damn right sexy.

  • haha i totally agree with everything although i must say except for the fact that it destroys the story line i like gerald butler ;) haha

  • They wanted to to make it a love story.

  • I love the way you talk about Joel Schumacher. And I didn't know he had to make a public apology for Batman & Robin lol

On the other hand, I disagree completly about Emmy Rossum. Of course, she was beautiful in it, but she has NO acting skills; she reduces the entire complexity of Christine's character into a nearly comatose face expresion.

  • 2:10 hahahahaha that moment in the movie actually scared me. plus i watched it in the cinema... hahahaha! lol erik is having fun there! ahahahaha.. TA-TA-TA-TA-TAAAA!!!!!

LOL don't screw around with this phantom ahahaha...

well, gerard IS sexy... so what if they didn't stick to the original story? they movie is still great, but the eye thing is true. i agree with u. i was questioning that as well.

  • I think I died laughing at all the points made here, because its SO true. God, that movie had so much potential. Why the hell would they cast a mediocre singer for such an influencial musical??? Then he goes off and plays Leonidas in "300"... haha and in the devil's child scene was that when the young phantom replaces his bag, you get a view of his face and it was completely normal.

They should have made the phantom more, idk, phantomy, less human? The movie just made him some weirdo stalker...

  • Hm, I disagree. Sarah aged REALLY well, and she's a way better actress in Repo! than in the 80s..

I do agree with the deformity--BIG TIME! So much inconsistency, it makes me want to kill something.

And, honestly, I didn't think Emmy Rossum was that great a singer...she could not get that last high note in boat scene. I think it was an E flat or something...not an E6.

  • I dissagree with you here, she did get it, and remember the boat was rocking too.

I know how hard it is to get that high, I have done it myself. She did not break on the note, just did hot hold it real long.

She did a lot of research before starting on the film.
