This was made for the Mexican market. It was shot for the 1980 Beetle and shown that year. Castle scenes may have been shot in Europe and blended with the surroundings. I was 6 when this commercial was shown.

My parents bought a new VW Caribe (Golf Mk 1) the very same year.
