What a sad day August 16th, 1977 was. "Way Down" was climbing the Billboard Hot 100 singles chart when Elvis Presley died. I was in the back yard talking with my older brother when our next door neighbor's son came out of his house saying, "Guys, Elvis Presley just died!". I was eleven years old. It was a nice sunny afternoon in my neck of the woods @ 5 pm CDT. R.I.P., Elvis Aron Presley (Elvis' middle name was misspelled on his birth certificate)....January 8th, 1935 - August 16th, 1977.
For 21 years from the first TV performance in January 1956 until August 1977. It has never been the same level of spirit in music and entertainment since his death.
It hit #46 in the Uk charts on 13 August 1977, then #42 week ending 20 August (after his death), before racing to #4 on 27 August and then number 1 on 3 September.
@strawberryrhubarbs Now I'm not claiming to be J D Sumner here, but I've recorded a song where I hit a bottom B, one semitone lower than this one. (it's on my channel - Boiling Strings For Jesus, Big Balls Version). Perhaps I should get in touch with Guinness! :oD
i like the song except for when the music stops for about 4 seconds 2 or 3 times, he did this too on suspicious minds and a few others, and its now or never the beat dissappears a few times.
This is definitely one of my most favorite songs that Elvis originally recorded in the 1970's. It's such a very groovy, energetic, electrifying, fun and magnificent song. Elvis will definitely always be the one and only King of music and entertainment. Elvis is totally irreplaceable and truly a one of a kind. This video was absolutely outstanding in every way, 10 Stars.

J.D. Sumner singing the words "way on down," officially the lowest note ever recorded by the human voice!

This song is on the Moody Blue album. The best song on the whole album, in my opinion.
