If you want to do the ABSOLUTE basic, yes, this works, but this means removing all the sound effects and music from the rest of the video, which is awful to do in a serious fandub. You need to find a way to remove the voices only, or remove everything but reinstate the sound effects and soundtrack from outside sources (difficult to do for more obscure shows with no official soundtrack/sound effects available). If you just wanna make a quick and dirty one, this works, but it really is basic.
@souleater000girl movie maker has a mic on it. if on a laptop you can just speak into where the microphone plug in socket is and it will work but i cant get it to work on a big system unit. if that's ay help? :3
i read the comment above on how hard it would be to keep the sfx and music in the video but i still want to do that. can you or someone else please upload a tutorial on how to create a movie with sound effects and music only so that i can fandub it? plz reply
aren't there laptops with built in microphones? just a quick question...'cause i want to make a fandub but my parents won't agree to buying a microphone
I have a question: How do I make the audio from the video to stay in, and if you can't in Windows Movie Maker? Do you know a better program that does that? Im trying to dub a series to Spanish, but I want the audio to stay in, and to be replaced by my own voice please help...
@reyshakquit Hmmmmm..... It's almost impossible to do that. This is why some fandubs are a pain, because you have to first mute the whole clip, put in your own music and sfx and create a whole diffrent movie without voices before you can even statrt to fan dub xP
@reyshakquit there is a program called Goldwave that lets you split up the audio into at least three different sections One for sound effects, one for music, and finally one for voices. so you can keep background noise and actually seem like you were in the clip. i have never used it but i read about it a couple times. it isn't free though, i'll send you the link where i found it and the regular website is goldwave dot com, hope this helps!!
@reyshakquit the way i do it is make one video with instramental music or sounds and once saved open it to movie maker after that lower it and add voices , i use goldwave to make my voice louder or ecoh it and stoff , i hoped that helped ^^
@reyshakquit I actually heard that there's some kind of audio software that you have to buy/download on your computer that can put in the sound effects with your voice (but I don't remember what it's called unfortunately. Some fan "dubbers" have this feature and they can put in the music and sound effects and everything else to go along with their voices.
@reyshakquit What you need to do is search for background music from the show you're doing. A good Google search prompt would be "(Title of anime/show) bgm download". Then, if it's a scene with quite a bit of sound effects (ie; a fighting show with lots of punch and kick sounds) then you'll also want to look for those sound effects too. Search "(Title of anime/show) sound effects download".
Aaah~, I can't express in words how happy I am that someone actually made one of these tutorials!
For the past month or so, I've been working on a Higurashi fan-dub, but I had no idea how to go about creating one, considering I don't know anyone who wishes to do a dub with me nor is interested in such things.. This clears all of my confusion away.
You're so awesome. I looked this up on Google (Lord knows I can't buy any software, so this is good), and this is what everything said, but I still didn't get it. Seeing it made me see the light! YAYZ! xD I really, REALLY wanted to learn how to make fandubs. Things like Umineko and Shugo Chara just NEED to be dubbed.
Oh---and your singing rocks, but your mike is an insult to your amazing talent. *vows to kill your microphone* EVIL MIKE!!! DIE! But, seriously, you can SING, girl!
the easiest option is looking for the "instrumental/karaoke" version of the song. it's not ideal since not all songs have it, but it's a good option otherwise.
@shootingstar860 Download them off youtube, you can search up "download youtube movies online converter" in a search engine, and follow the steps of one of the sites. But ensure that you don't have a file as .flv for it wont work in windows movie maker
Hey, I have another question. In order to make it sound authentic, so that it doesn't sound silent in the background...
How do you make a fandub with your voice, and yet it also has the regular sound effects in the background? (Without the japanese voice mixed in, of course.)
You can make the whole song in Audacity. Just open the song you want,, then record over it. If it goes silent when you try to record, go to Transport>Overdub(on/off)
I could go into the billions of other details, but I wouldn't have enough room, plus, I'm still learning myself. o3o
well i dont know how to change the music ointo kareoke but i can make my voice go with the karaoke version. its just the music gets softer so you have to adjust both volumes
THANK YOU SO MUCH FOR POSTING THIS!!! ^^ I can't thank you enough for the helpful and understandable way you wrote this and the awesome music you chose, too!!!! x3
Ok well ,I am making a fandub and I want to get other people from youtube voices without meeting them in person or whatevs...If they record their voices, how am I able to get them on WMM? Please reply
they should be able to send you the file in an email they just need to make sure it is the right format like wav or mp3 it should work i have sent fandub movies through email before.
sorry fr late reply, i download the clips from youtube. You can look for online youtube video converters though google or something. But if you tell me what clips your looking for I can probably tell you a good site.
To add onto that, I use Any Video Converter. You can just add Youtube URLs and it downloads them. Then, if you need to, you can convert them to any file type you want.
is it possible to say only cut out a single actor's voice? I wanna do a fandub, but I dunno anybody interested in doing one with me, and I can't do everyone's voices, so I was wondering if there's a way to cut out just a single character's voice and insert my own in?
I havn't seen clannad yet. I will start watching it right away ^^ We might want to also find someone with experience so we don't end up with a complete failure. haha. ^^ I'll do it. But I really need to watch it first.
Haha yeah ^^" I'm pretty good with computers but I'm not exactly good with windows movie maker, and stuff like that. It has been giving me problems. Btw ..hehe when you pointed out that there isn't many male roles in Clannad I think you thought I was male? I am female haha ^^""
Mixing is basicly how all the sounds "work" together. For example bad mixing would be having your background music much louder than the voices. or the sound effects quieter then the background music. You should fix your mixing to make the quality of your clip better and to impress your audience!
A real Fandub guide would explain how to remove the voice and the voice only. Secondly, you should be able to keep the SFX or BGM of the scene rather than just hearing a fuzzy microphone voice.
Actually reworking all audio is a valid method it's a lot harder and a lot more dependant on source video quality to edit out voices. If you go that route you do have to then manually redo the whole soundtrack.
i can´t find the plug ins for audacity to save my songs as mp3 or else... but i need it! i can only save as an au data.... that not so good please can somebody help me to find some good plug ins for free?
is there any way that you will only the voice???and dont cover the whole scene with just a voice???your covering the environment or background sound effects of a scene
Okay i only have one solution, and im not even sure if it will work. First take the whole episode or clip and drag it into the music/audio section of the timeline. then press save your movie file. (this will save the episode as just sound for now.) convert the file into and mp3 or wav some how, then use my kareoke tutorial for the rest....
Could you please send the file with the song at the end from final fantasy 8? Its different from the original version and its great. I would be really greateful.
wow i just stumbled upon your video and i was looking for a free voice changer type of thing, and the audacity is perfect! thanks soo much for making this video!!
thanks but how do you edit the sound so that the music in the background, but not the voices, is still there? otherwise it sounds really weird and awkward
if you download an episode, how do you take out the japanese voices and fan dub it? In other words, how do you delete off the japanese wording leaving only the sound effects
How do you get the anime clips you want in movie maker? Do you record what you want with your video camera from the anime and import that from your camera and then you have it in move maker? Or is there an easier way? ^^; Thanks!
When I record my microphone doesn't pick up my voice, it works normally with other programs, so why not now? It's definately plugged in and installed correctly :/
make sure the volume for the microphone imput is on all the way in audacity. it should have a little icon of a microphone and a slide bar. then you should be ready to go.
sometimes when you record though the slide bar goes down, so make sure when your recording you check that its still in place.
I have the WMV Little Mermaid instrumental video ready to go. but when I click import the "Imorting Files..." theprogress bar is full but the bottom bar is empty and the window freezes. And I can't do anything afterwards. It won't let me open the file!!!
that happens to me sometimes too, what you can do is when it just starts importing just press on the cancel buttonand it should upload. (maybe it only works on my computer, but thats what i do when this problem occurs.)
How would I edit things on it? If I wanted to, say, remove any nudity or something, for example.

Okay so I've been wanting to make a fandub for a while now...so I just uploaded Audacity.
I downloaded the clip I want to dub from YouTube as an mo3, and tried to remove the vocals, but apparently it has to be stereo and not mono.
WHAT AM I DOING WRONG??? lol I'm so confuuused!!

Why can't you just narrirate the timeline? It's easier.
bluerubyvideos 3 years ago
Well, with audacity, you can add sounds and background music when you're recording yourself. With WMM you can't do that..

if you download an episode, how do you take out the japanese voices and fan dub it? In other words, how do you delete off the japanese wording leaving only the sound effects

How do you get the anime clips you want in movie maker? Do you record what you want with your video camera from the anime and import that from your camera and then you have it in move maker? Or is there an easier way? ^^; Thanks!

Well, I download most of my things from Veoh, or look around for clips on google.

When I record my microphone doesn't pick up my voice, it works normally with other programs, so why not now? It's definately plugged in and installed correctly :/
lozzalovesyou 3 years ago
make sure the volume for the microphone imput is on all the way in audacity. it should have a little icon of a microphone and a slide bar. then you should be ready to go.
sometimes when you record though the slide bar goes down, so make sure when your recording you check that its still in place.

QUESTION!!!!!!!!!!!!
I have Audacity! I have Windows Movie Maker!
I have the WMV Little Mermaid instrumental video ready to go. but when I click import the "Imorting Files..." theprogress bar is full but the bottom bar is empty and the window freezes. And I can't do anything afterwards. It won't let me open the file!!!
What do I do?
nddlj 3 years ago
that happens to me sometimes too, what you can do is when it just starts importing just press on the cancel buttonand it should upload. (maybe it only works on my computer, but thats what i do when this problem occurs.)

When you put the "actual" song in the bakground, how do we not let people hear the voice of the "actual" song, but only our own voice?
