  • Try coming home to an empty house, no wife, no kids, no furniture...NOTHING! WhereDADDY org

  • Seems so unfair. I really feel for people who have to experience this.

  • Needs a better premise or shock factor . how about a split screen of saving private ryan beach scene and a spouse sleping with every one in her apartment complex. Then sending him a letter saying she feels her contributions require him to pay 50% of his current pay and any fuure income for life!!! or show her married to one guy divorced and the judge saying 50%. The ner at the alter again and at divorce again 50% then rolling in money and last a shot of the homless veterans she divorced.

  • I'm active duty Navy. I went on a deployment to Diego Garcia and came home divorced. We are *not* spoiled. There is a whole lot of sacrifice involved when we *serve* our country.

  • Our military is so spoiled!

  • @TheDonnaEl How so? Please explain!

  • Not suprising, Republicans appoligize to British Petroleum and offer blank checks on wars.

  • we should just kill our ex's new husbands in front of them then have em beg for their lives and make them apologize for ruining ours before we slit their jugular and watch them bleed out like the dirty little piggies they are... just brainstorming here.

  • This happens far too often. It has to STOP! The USFSPA must be repealed or MAJOR modifications that benefit the military member must happen. Everyone needs to keep writing their elected REP regarding this. Don't let the issue die in their mind. Let's keep up with it and don't give up.

  • Help educate young people about the misleading marketing, advertising and recruiting strategies of the U.S. Army at the website which is the same as our username.

  • ...grounds for murder. I can't believe this actually goes on!! Fucking democrats of course.

  • there should be a law that makes a spouse who does this to us, ughhh, happened to me, there should be a law that makes these bitches enlist in the army and go to Iraq for a year and see how it is for themselves. There should be strict guidelines for bitches like this

  • Splitting military retirement pay is not mandated by the USFSPA. Awarding a portion of the member's retired pay is up to the courts. They will treat like property in a civilian divorce. Your divorce must show you were given a portion of the retirement and it must be written as a percentage. If married to a military member 10years the courts decided if you're entitled to 1/3 of military retirement. It must state in your decree that you have been awarded 33% of the spouses retired pay.

  • You are partially correct! We dont need a lesson on division. We are affected by this and know how it works. USFSPA gave the (state)courts the ability to take our hard earned retainer pay. It can be a percentage or actual dollar amt. You can be married less than 10 yrs. Get your facts straight!

  • Google USLG and check out our support group. If your a past, present or future Military person, please help us support change to this horrible act upon out Military. It gets worse, in some cases, courts even take away the disability payments and award to unfaithful spouses. Their has to be resolve, come help us, stand up for your rights!

  • Life, Liberty and the pursuit of Happiness, Defend the Constitution against all enemies foreign and domestic. Simple words that our Service Members live and die defending and our judicial, legislative and executive branches ignore. Thank you for your service now let us change the status of your continuation pay to property so we can justify giving it to someone else. Who has according to our courts earned it equally for their service.

  • i would have killed that bitch

  • amen.

  • I'm pessimistic. I guess that happens when you get old.

  • Its easy to be pessimisic but have hope and unify to fight for what you believe in! Get creative, make a video telling everyone how unjust his law is!

  • I have been screwed by this law as well. Ex is receiving close to $1,000.00 a month from me. ULSG this video needs to be more shocking! You have 10 minutes you can upload. Get a new video uploaded that tells people more about this unfair law that screws all of us vets who are in this predicament.

  • How about some of us coming up with our own video? Just roll it around in your thoughts and see if you can come up with some interesting facts!

  • I think we can. ULSG has stated we need to take our cause to the people and media. I think a video might be a start. It's got to be better than the one above.

  • Agreed. It is a case of 'lots of people need to do a little' instead of 'a few do it all'

  • Google ULSG, answers to your questions Uniformed Services Former Spouses Protection Act. Pub.L. No. 97-252, 96 Stat. 730 (1982), currently codified as amended at 10 U.S.C. § 1408. This law, hastily passed by our Congress without forethought & little discussion, invalidated the United States Supreme Court's 1981 majority 6-3 ruling (McCARTY v. McCARTY, 453 U.S. 210 1981) that asserted military retirement/retainer pay is not subject to division as common property in state divorce proceedings.

  • Our government doesnt give a shit about our retainer pay and how its illeagally surrendered to our ex spouses! If it effected them and their hefty retirement then they would take notice. I say post as many unfavorable comments all over the web till it may some day it will get enuf attention. I wish there were more spouses that felt the way tlceman feels and we may not be so damned bitter!

  • Suck it up guys and gals, we're F*cked...Isn't it great that I pay 49% to my ex and her new husband, I'll bet they laugh every month when the check shows up...

  • thats fucking horrible....

  • After 21 years in the military, fighting in 5 wars and deploying to some of the worst places on earth, living in SH*T holes, being shot at, bombed, RPGd and the list goes on... for her to collect money for what I did is PLAIN WRONG. If the Government wont stop it, then they should FUND the spouses with their dollars and give back to the VETS what we rightly earned and deserve. This LAW DOES NOT AFFECT ANYONE IN THE GOVERNMENT EXCEPT US MILITARY PERSONNEL.. IT IS AN INJUSTICE !!!!!!!!!!

  • This too is affecting me, she filed for divorce, took the kids away from me while I went off to IRAQ again, she receives nearly a thousand dollars a month from my retirement pay AND I also have to pay child support... SHE DOESNT NEED A JOB, IM HER EMPLOYER !!!

  • I for one would not serve again knowing what I know now and would not go if recalled. I may serve albeit would be in Leavenworth. BTW, I am giving up 43 % for 13 years of marriage. The land of the free my A@#

  • I am a former spouse of a military retiree as well as a veteran, and I agree with you all. Even though I followed him around for 13 years after we were married, I didn't do the time in the field, or TDY, or on mission, so I don't deserve his pay. God bless all you retirees, and I pray this gets overturned.

  • Comments do not seem to be showing up

  • With Democrats wanting to fill the ranks with homosexuals, and military spouses having more rights to retirment pay than service members, who in their right mind would want to make the military a career?

  • As Bill Maher notes, maybe we NEED more homosexuals in the military - at least THEY know when to pull out of a s***hole!

  • Married 17 years, 8 while in the military got my drug using, cheating ex 17% of my retainer pay. She gets it for life, even if she remarries. It is possible for two people who never served in the military to get retainer pay. This law needs to go.

  • In 1981 the US Supreme Court declared military retirement/retainer pay NOT community property, 1982, Congress passed the Former Spouse Protection Act and backdated it to a date the day BEFORE the Court action.

Soldiers the were already retired and divorced for years suddenly found themselves back in court and it has been going on since. I find words to express my feelings on this hard to come by!

  • I have paid my ex-spouse over $360,000 since 1982 and she is working on her 4th marraige. That is money I will never see and it is painful to know that the money is being spent by someone who was never in the Military. Congress passed this law in the dark of night and attached it to an appropriations bill to be signed the next day. Now they don't have the guts to correct a wrong.

  • This is an injustice to all military! Let's face it America if this rule was applied to all Americans tomorrow, how long would it take for you to voice up your opinions. This needs to be addressed ASAP. Don't just sit on your butts and say since this only affects active duty military why should I be concerned. Perhaps the price of freedom will be fought once again on American soil...maybe that's what it's going take to wake you people up!

  • DOD, the U.S. Congress, the White House nor any court gives a crap about our problem, & they won't do anything. Their only concern is keeping their job, & this issue won't help them. Talking, writing letters & court actions will not help. It's time for serious action, like demonstrations! Look at the news coverage Cindy Sheehan & other radical activists get. I'll drive DC & join in a serious demonstration, but I won't write more letters to politicians who take no action.

  • The sad truth about the video is that after his divorce his ex-spouse will receive up to 50% of his retainer pay and or a portion of his disability if it applies, regardless of how many times she may remarry, for the rest of his life. Now...that my friend should be against the law. Not protected by a law like the USFSPA. It's a slap in the face to all Veteran's.

    CliffA/POC/TN

  • It is pretty sad that more people dont take an active role or interest in this fight!

  • With all of the widespread publicity this video has had only nine (yes - 9!) of the over 200,000+ active-duty and retired military personnel affected the the USFSPA have even bothered to visit and leave a comment. Inaction such as this may be the reason we still languish under the weight of this unfortunate piece of legislation . Indifference on the part of any and all individuals affected breeds contempt by the very people who are in a position to revoke the USFSPA...

  • An additional comment to the below posted - where is the support from the members of the various veteran's groups???? Perhaps those groups are displayihg the very contempt for their members that I alluded to below?

  • I can tell you the reason they do not. Most of those groups ie. the American Legion are made up of verter

ans that are not retired so therefore are not affected by it. I dare say the majority do not even know about it. You know how it is; its not in my backyard so I could care less.

  • Would geting a Pre-Nup solve the problem?

  • Sure, if troops were briefed of the unconstitutional USFSPA (pronounced U-SPA) law that DOD supports. They are always told that, "We take care of our own". It appears DOD is immune to telling their own people the truth of USFSPA fraud. How were troops that were already married and already career military suppose to protect themselves with a pre nup? U-SPA was back-dated to circumvent the USSC and applied retroactively. What happened to the constitutional rights of these service members?

  • and don't marrie a women from over seas, once they get in the USA they get americanized and forget about all there home training on how to be a wife, if they do there part the man will step up and do his, but you have some scallywags out there who hate to see a happy home and they cause conflict. MS3 Harris

  • AT LAST! The Congress's and DOD's "Dirty Little Secret" is finally getting some airing! Since 50% of all military marriages end in divorce it's no wonder that military recruiters never mention this gold=diggers delight when talking to perspective recruits! I've paid my remarried ex-spouse over $190,000 over the past 16 years, with no respite in sight.

  • Can you imagine such a windfall for a spouse married to a GI!!! Payments for life!!! Wrong...Wrong...Wrong!!! Congress is at fault. change this idiotic law now!!! Lobby your congressman.

  • This is a national disgrace to all military retirees. Ex spouses prey on this! Vets work extra hard for this compensation, not to be given to an ex spouse.

    RogerSmart/POC/GA

  • Sadly it continues to be big and profitable business for attorneys to find ways to take more and more from those who've served their country, putting their lives on the line, while their spouses sit at home having affairs and eventually decide to leave them, taking all they can in the process due to despicable laws such as the USFSPA.

  • Though the commercial illustrates this from a male perspective this bad law is actually gender-neutral as noted at www.GI-JANES.ORG and other sites on the topic.

  • Women in the Service are also loosing up to 50% of the reirement pay for life on top of child support and alimony to men that were supposed to provide for the family and Got rewarded for Divorce by the State Judges. If you think it is wrong to support an exspouse for life Join us at www.GI-JANES.ORG

  • How right this was, I do not see it coming once I retired.

  • Unfortunately over 50% of your fellow service members thought the same thing and it happened to them. Wrong assumption when you think "This will never happen to me!"

  • A good law? Hardly! More soldiers, sailors, Marines, airmen and Coast Guardsmen have been financially raped and legally demoralized by the USFSPA in the 24 years since its inception than you could possibly imagine.

Why risk your life in foreign lands when a US Congress betrays you!

  • Eye opener if youthink about enlisting in military you gotta be aware of this!

  • Prenuptial Agreements are the only protection a young service member can take to protect their retirement.

The Military commands REFUSE TO EDUCATE Young members about the law because it is bad for moral and retention.

  • This affects ALL military members, not just enlisted. Officers too!
