  • My ps3 (60Gb launch model) is very quit en runs smooth BUT never get passed the 2nd fan level.. so im a bit worried that maybe the fan is broken, can i do this test to see if my fan gets louder? but is it safe etc?

  • If anyone listens to him they are almost stupidier than him.

  • This is not for 40&80gb models...didn't work for me but may work on 60gb like in this video

  • turning it upside down makes no difference at all you twat

  • Thnx dude! PS3 is a lot faster now :)

  • i did this, and got the yellow light of death and had to getit fixed now the fans don't work either, thanks a lot gimp.

  • omg how many monster energy is this ?

  • This guy.. all you half to do is disassemble it, not choke it, a real person who takes care of there PS3 would Deccan not do that. I just put P/C fans in and get sony® to clean it for me. Thats why my 60 is probably the cater than Windows 7®

  • Idiot. The PS3 is basically overheating, the CPU is getting close to burning, that's why the fan starts spinning really fast. It can ruin your PS3..

The REAL dust cleaner doesn't involve any turning upside down or not, it's the built-in fan test. Take the disc (if any) out of PS3 (or it'll eject instead of doing the test), turn it off in the back. Stay pressing the eject button and turn it on in the back. After two seconds or so it'll start spinning the fans at top speed for a while.

  • @GodlikeNuno nope, the 60GB doesn't work like that

  • OMG all that monster energy drink ~c=3

  • yes a simple fan test fixes it all. all computers can do it.

  • well, thats the fucked up way to do it.

  • I just did this and a whole bunch of dust went in my face :/

  • You'd have to be a real dumbass to actually do this haha.

  • hahahahaha Oh my god. This is classic entertainment. Just smoked a blunt and watched this, i knew dude was a lethargic fool from the beginning. Aye keep it up, you can get famous for lookin like an idiot. Tosh.o web Redemption. Hahaha

  • FAT ASS.....

  • This gives you no performance boost. This is not a fan test. Your overheating it. Fan test is done with eject key. Stop teaching people your misinformed shit....

  • instead of doing this I have a better solution.

    1. Get your vacuum

    2. Turn it to blow cycle

    3. Disconnect everything from your ps3 and make sure your games are out.

    4. BLOW THE DUST OUT OF THAT DAMN THING!!!

    5. Put vacuum away

    6. Plug everything back in your ps3 and commence playing any game you want.

    P.s. Demon's Souls For Life!

  • theres no accelorometer inside a ps3, misinformed if u think flipping it upside down puts it in any type of mode? fans spin up so u dont burn the cpu right through the motherboard. this is y the ps3 fan is spinning up. the heatsink r designed to LIFT the heat up from the chips, since heat rises, this works well. the fan cools down the heat sinks. since u turned it upside down, the heat doesnt rise to the heatsinks, its doing the opposite, thats y the fans spin fast to keep the chip cool.

  • Its not a fan test, WOW you fail.

Your covering one of the PS3's heat vents and your not letting heat get out so obviously the fans going to run harder when the heats not going anywhere and the PS3 is trying to blow heat out the bottom when heat rises.

DO NOT DO THIS ON ANY PS3, this guy has NO CLUE WHATSOEVER.

  • lol my ps3 dose this in a regular position

  • So what your saying it does NOT work for a 55 GB or is that suppose to be 60 GB.

  • This really works i been doing this for 3 Years and my ps3 works even greater!! i was thinking about gettin another but my Ps3 is doing great all by itself.. your the fucking trolls not this Kid. all do the fan Test, seriously..

  • guaranteed troll, american flag on old navy shirt... monsters like a monster in the background, hunching over a lot to look even fatter (even though the kid is like bigboned and not even obese looking). but yea, you are just blocking the vents so the ps3 can't get air to cool itself so it spins as fast as possible

  • It's not a fan test. You are overheating the CPU.

  • fan tastic

  • This was made to be able to remove a game disc if any system failure happened so that there would not be a video game inside the unit when the owner sent it to sony for repairs

  • thankyou!!! i just did it and i subbed to ya !

  • thank mate got it to work cheers love you

  • thanks

  • wow someone is showing you how to destroy a ps3 idiot.

  • FAIL. Just like carmental9 said. all it is going over heat, the sensors are telling the fans to run faster as its getting into the DANGER Temps. this will just cause ur ps3 to become red light of death faster permanently.

  • Hmmm well lets look to physics. Hot air rises..... your holding your ps3 in the least efficient way to exhaust heat from the system. This causes the gpu to overheat very quickly making the fan go into overdrive to cool it. Yeh no harm at all.........

  • Comment removed

  • I think this has been patched it no longer works for me

  • Sorry but having it sitting in any form vertical damages the system and putting that is worse belive I know I work on these things it make the gpu and CPU come off the mother board

  • fucking white fat ass cheesy poooffss bitches!!!

  • I just did this an my ps3 fan ran over a million mph

  • HOW DO I EJECT THE DISK

  • Stop waving your hands!

  • I've tried every thing except opening my ps3, none of it works..., maybe it worked for you but not for me and i dont have the screw driver to open the ps3. so WTF am i supposed to do??

  • @hoffinator11 Uhh your supposed to contact Sony and ask them for help you freaking idiot!

  • @hoffinator11 buy a screw driver

  • Man i've changed my PS3 60GB thermal paste today and you all should do it.

I won 1 level by doing this (PS3 system have 4 fan levels).

Level 0 on XMB and 1 when playing Soul Calibur (level 2 before) & level 2 on PS2 games (level 3 before).

  • Yeah that is retarded.

  • Whts ur online name ??

  • doing that causing damage to the system.

    your provoking it to overheat.

  • Yeah! Fat asshole american bastards!

  • @habbomanish stupid troll

  • Thanks.

  • There's only one safe way to clean your PS3 and that's a stripdown every couple of months!

  • dont do it!!! it fucked up my system! I called SONY and they said do not attempt to use that function or you will harm your system. It only takes one try to fuck yoru system. It was made for trained technicians to deal with certain problems on the console.

  • @ElsHouse i think you are right, if sony says so, but will doing it just one time , is it hurtful??

  • @A10S1000 RFLOL!! it does not do damage providing u do not do it often. I wanted to instill fear in people the same way i was in fear after finding AFTER doing it that i may have damaged my unit LOL!! Welcome to the initiation of fear :-)

  • @ElsHouse loooool, so, is it dangerous?, i mean, i never did it, I bought my ps3 almost 2 ears ago, and never clean it from inside, never have problems with my ps3 tho...

  • @A10S1000 i did some investigation and found out that that feature is for the techs when they want to do a diagnostic. So to answer your question, NO it is not dangerous in the hands of a tech (notice i qualified that). I did it once and my unit is working fine. I would not advise anyoen to do it since sony does not instruct users to use it. But if you do find yourself curious and wind up tinkering with it, it wont damage yoru unit. I instead used compressed air.

  • @ElsHouse thanks, im doing the fan test, even though im not a tech and have no knowledge of the subject whatsoever, right away :D

  • @A10S1000 satisfy yoru curiosity :-) In the future, just use the compressed air method. I actually bought one of those powerful vacuum/compressor all in one, 5hP engine, to clean out my ps3 and computers, and it does the job!

  • @ElsHouse yeeah, I should have used the compressed air method, R.I.P my PS3 ;D.... just kidding, i used the fan test (the 40GB method in my 80GB PS3 :S ), is still working fine, but it is not faster, as the fatty in the video says... but i think it has no dust anymore. I will use your method in the future, thaanks :D

  • Why is this retard using his fat flabby hands to block the air vents and making the ps3 overheat, which makes the fan increase in speed. I would have laughed if it just melted into his hand.

  • I know a lot of ppl have flamed this video, but he's dead on. First off, common sense (and he even says it) tells you not to actually set it on the table or wherever you have it, while doing this. Yes, his hands are covering the vents, but that's not the point of the video.

As far as using as a cleaning tool, I say used compressed air, but I needed to test my fan due to some issues that had occurred and these steps, w/o blocking the vents, covered it and I know my fan works fine.

  • when i clean it , will the performance will change to better ???!?!

  • dude can it work on a 40 giga ps3 ????

    plllllllz i need answer ???

and does it damage my ps3 ?!?!!?

    thx ...

  • @serioussaad are u being serious mate?! Your holding your ps3 upside down blocking airflow from getting out your ps3 so it overheats....nah I'm sure this does good for your ps3, keeps it nice and warm...*facepalm*

  • Dumbass your over heating your ps3. Get that hax network shit off your fucking name

  • @vq35ftw

dude are you really sure , honestly ?? , cause i will do it on my ps3 ????

  • So the ps3 must have like an accelerometer inside it? Wild!

  • This is not a fan test...ur running the risk of burning your PS3!!! This guy is dumb

  • @BlazinJoe18

    Totally Agree!

  • kid, you are going to die drinking all those monsters

  • Aww guys you need to shut the fuck up I have mire then that in my room and I weigh 120lbs

  • too many monsters + too much ps3 = fat young american..

  • Damn no lie about the monster man shit your to young to have so many pounds of monster in you

  • LMFAO fat ass with all that monster... cliche..

  • bro.just cause it says "low carb monster" on the can doesnt mean its healthy for you...you should cut that shit dow to like 2 or 1 a week lmao.

  • Comment removed

  • NO! NO! NO!

The PS3 60GB's heat pipes are not designed to run upside down. The evaporative properties of the heat pipes are defeated and it does overheat your processors for real!

  • you are dumb this aint even a fan test my ps3 sounds like rthis normally, no dust your just feeling air coming out i mean riduculous dont listen to americans

  • What....NO. NO.

  • Anyone else notice the entire bookshelf dedicated to monsters? Should cut back on that sugar man.

  • @xdeath4ubymex haha i thought you meant books about monsters, that wouldve been fucking awesome

  • @EchoLenix Nah but I agree it would of been fucking awesome =)

  • your an idiot. thats it. i'm making a video that says its not good at all. it hurts the ps3 extremely. watch the video about this.

  • I have my 60GB PS3 since 2007 and I've never done a fan test. I'm worried that If I do a fan test on my PS3 NOW, i'll get a yellow light of death afterwards or in a couple of days time. The only thing that bothers me about my PS3 is that one day it is so quite you wouldn't know it was on and a few days after the fan is like a jumbo jet.

  • Your PS3 will be nice and clean inside but it will also be dead or at least closer to it. There is no such a thing called a "fan test" on a PS3. By flipping the machine like this you are intentionally forcing the hot air to re-cycle through the PS3 causing the machine to overheat further. Each time you do this you are shortening the life of the CPU and GPU. It would be wiser to use one of those compressed air cans to clean the machine than this.

  • back vent is for cpu

    side vent is for gpu

The heatsink is not completely connected so If you block the right side, then the gpu temperature will go up indefinitely until you stop blocking the right vent. I think you are killing your PS3.

  • Thanks, this really helped! I tried it on my 80GB and it worked like a charm. Prior to me doing the fan test, all cutscenes for all my games began to lag really badly. Works like its brand new now. Thanks again!!!

  • to properly ensure your fan works then take apart the ps3 using gifskys tutorial then blow dry all your components * MAKE SURE YOU DO NOT SPRAY CPU, then blow dry the fan and then run this test your ps3 will then properly reset the fans work and supprisingly will work better

  • People who think it harms your PS3 are fucking retarded. Why would Sony make the feature? To brake your ps3? No, Sony announced it is not harmful and is a method for the PS3 to clean itself from dust. So stop being a whiney bitch and and fucking do it you pussy.

  • My god! Look at all those Moster drinks. Dont you believe in eating salad or drinking vegetable juice for natural energy?

  • thanks man, my fans wouldnt even spin til i did this

  • dammit my i got my ps3 fixed from YLOD yesterday, and b4 it broke my fan was as quiet as a mouse, now, it gets louder every 10secs i play it, but i think when they fixed my ps3, they did this so the fan works better and less overheating

  • Um, that drys out the soiderpads.

  • Why the fuck does this method always have to come up when searching for a way to clean the fan safely. :/ It works in some cases, but goes horribly wrong in others. Damn you Sony. D:

  • what if it has ylod

  • i just did this and an un-godly amount of dust flew out of my four year old 20GB PS3. it works

  • Amazing..I used to be able to hear it in the next room with the door shut..now the old 60Gb is as quiet as my newer 40Gb..much props, thank you sir

  • I just factory reset my cousins 60GB PS3 after buying it for $50 and it works now..but it's loud as a blow dryer..i hope this works

  • if you keep doing that to your ps3 its going to in up crashing or frezzing

and you will have ylod yellow light of death

  • @miamidolfans1 i just got the yellow light of death for some random reason so i'm willing to try anything now -.-

  • sorry can i ask doing this so called "fan test" how is that blocking the vents?, if its pushing air out at a greater rate how does it overheat? just wondering?

  • i think i have that tv, is it a 22'' electron tv?

  • i work at gamestop and i did this and all this black shit came out and it stunk it was fucking gross

  • how can you fucking clowns say that the ps3 is not getting air? just because its turned upside down doesnt mean its not getting air u fucking idiots! and it does clean the dust out of you ps3 aswell. as long as you do it about 1 every 2 month or so there will be nothing going wrong with the ps3. prats

  • @imachristian100 thats why were the strongest world power....

  • You dumb piece of shit, you are suffocating your system. Fans detect, when the system over heats. Your fans are turning on because you are literally squirting shit all over your fucking ps3, I feel so bad for your console..... idiot......

  • Americans are getting fatter!!!

  • @habbomanish LMAO yep

  • @habbomanish This kid is only what?.....14 years old? This American will be getting even fatter.

  • @habbomanish Europeans are getting more Idiotic!

  • @habbomanish No wonder you seen that shit behind him .... and they say shit about the uk ahahah

  • @habbomanish lol thats mean

  • @habbomanish food keeps getting better what you expect

  • @habbomanish lol im american, and im not fat, but yeah i do believe americans are gettin FAT!

  • @habbomanish LMFAOOOOOOO you make me laugh there yo'

  • DUDE u seen all the monster energy drimls at the bk ;L

  • thats not a fan test....all your doin is blocking the vents.....and yes it is overheating....cause you have the air blocked....keep doin this and it'll red light real soon for ya....if that doesnt playing it on its side will

  • He has no brains! Lets block up all the air vents and see what happens :O

  • W.W.W ps3pirata (.) com

  • que estas inchao a comer helaos cacho foca , to el dia jugando a la ps3 asi te las sabes toas

  • Awesome video. Thanks for posting. I own the 60gb PS3 as well and lately has been running a bit hot so I've been looking for ways to properly clean it as well as maintain it so I don't get the "YLOD" : )

Thanks for posting this, I didn't even know the PS3 had a cool feature like this. I've taken apart my pc before and cleaned all the components, fans, filters etc. and was wondering how to do the same for PS3.

As it turns out it is unnecessary to take apart the PS3 to clean it, thanks.

  • gordo sebosoooooooooooooooooooooooooo jajajaj un saludo a los piratas

  • Nerrrrrrrrddddd

  • how much monsters have you drank?!?

  • LOLZ!!!

  • wtf how many cans of monser

  • so this DOES work cuz mine is broken, duzn't read discs. i hv an 80. so PLEASE respon to me. Thanks mAN

  • Don't know if it did any good on my console but i worked just like he says in the video.

  • omg you did the fan test too long

  • wat this mother fucker doing,,,,, OMG

  • Low-Carb Monster energy tastes horrible.

  • but he needs it so yeah

  • Okay i done it and some dust came out.. i done it because my fan was making some gay ass nigger noises but now its kinda okay..ish.

    Thanks!

  • i have a 60GB model. i hope i can trust that. i may do that but i hope i wont get the YLOD again. can it fix the disc reading error? i hope so because thats the problem with my ps3. maybe it could get the dust off the laser lens. lemme know if it wont give me the YLOD ok?

  • 40 and 80 gb fan test is bether:p

  • i got the YLOD will the fan test fix it?

  • no it wont

  • Damn look at those monster drinks

  • lol Just to add, fan is NOT ON THE TOP! its underneath! I have proof, Please say its not so you can feel stupid.

  • do not do this idiot think not necessery

  • look if i do this will my 80gb eventully break or not i really need to know

  • Dude, ps3 fan tests are stupid. They just overheat the PS3 to get the fans SUPER FAST, causing it to suck out dust. Just get a compressed can of air yo and clean it out,

  • wtf that was the dumbest thing ive ever seen... uh ill pass thank you

  • I know why this kid is fat. Too many fucking "energy" drinks and sitting and playing PS3 all the fucking time.

Kid needs to get a wiifit for PS3. lol.

Yeah. This test just increases the heat inside the PS3 and the fans have to cool it down because it is overheating. Yes, it is a fan test, but not for cleaning out dead human skin and dirt particles

  • then h0w about the 40gb one??

  • It's function built for technicians to test out the cooling speed for repair work. If it is on the 40 GB one it would still overheat your processor and have the fans on maximum power trying to cool it down.

Clean it with a vacuum, clean rag, and/or air pressure can.

Alternatively, you could just suck the dust off with your mouth.

  • owh okay!

    i had the 40gb

    and upgraded it to 320gb

and hey wahat's backwards compatability. ?????"

  • backwards compatability is the ability to play old play station games (ie. ps2,ps1 games) the 40 gb model is the only one that can't play old ps2,ps1 games.

  • no the 40gb is not the only 1, the newer 80gb (not backwards compatible model) 160gb, and the new ps3 slims are all not backwards compatible

  • what you just witnessed is the mas puto way to do the fan test.

The proper way to do it:

    Turn the main switch off.

    Hold the EJECT button

Turn the main switch back on while still holding the EJECT button.

After the fan stops turn the ps3 off and you're good to go.

My ps3 just died today and i still had a game disc inside. The fan test also manualy ejects the disc if theres one in the drive..

You guys really think holding your ps3 upside down is an efficient way to clean out the dust? lol wow

  • Dumbass, doing the eject button will NOT WORK ON 60gb units. the function only works for 40gb

  • well that gives you more the reason to be careful with the damn thing! 60 gigs are hard to find these days.. they are more valuable than any other ps triple out there.

if you're worried about dust building up inside your ps3 you'll have to take it apart and clean it manually. You'll be shocked how much dust actaully is inside this thing.

  • I tried the turn it upside down thing, and it did absolutely nothing... as in , even the fan stayed exactly at speed 1, i guess my ps3 is clean inside :)

  • idiot

  • I have not done this, but I don't see the harm in doing so. To those who claim this will fry your ps3, do you have any evidence that it will do so? What are the max temps that components can handle, and are those temps being reached? I will install xubuntu and run some tests of my own, but has anyone done so already?

  • Ur dumb. Thats not how u do it. And it ONLY works on the 40 GB version

  • You're dumb, he just did it in the video.

  • thats really bad for your ps3. DO NOT DO THIS.

  • the air escapes out of the top of the ps3 by turning it upside down your not letting the air escape, that it why the fans are going nuts, dont do this you'll jus fry your ps3

  • Just put a fan on the Ps3 if it gets hot. That what i do.

  • Comment removed

  • u look like a freak

  • your a dumbass thats all i need to tell you.
