If Iodine supplementation is done too quickly, and/or in the presence of Bromide in the body, it can cause detox symtpoms including acne, constipation and or rash that occur most frequently from bromide. Iodine is a necessity for the body and for effective prevention of infection, autoimmune disorders and cancer.
Thank you for your extensive research! I began taking supplements (multi-vitamins) which contains Iodine (100% of Daily Dietary Recommendations). Initially I did not break out. However after 2 weeks on intake, my face began flushing with Cystic Acne (Type IV, Very Severe). Other variables were constant throughout before I took the vitamins. My hypothesis : Iodine and Acne is definitely correlated.
I used to have breakouts. I gave up cheese and diary and they subsided and was pretty well off for a year and moderately ate shellfish. This past christmas I went to an all you can eat seafood buffet saturated in spices and now I am battling out one of the worst breakouts I have had in a very long time. I am starting to track down more and more sources of iodine and slowly cutting them from my diet. I'll post my follow ups within the next few weeks if anyone is interested.
table salts have iodine, lack oi it causes goitre, an inflammation of the thyroid gland, take excessive iodine only when nuclear bomb was dropped nearby
False. Seaweed contains huge amounts of iodine generally and the Japanese consume up to 200mg in some places, like Hokkaido. The American RDA is 150mcg, or .15mg -- way too low.

Great Video Dan. I recently wrote about this at AcneTeen. Proactiv believes that Iodine can cause acne. I also believe that it can.
