  • I've got two problems and i was wondering if you could help me out (im on vista)... when i put the setup.exe in compatibility mode it either when double clicked does nothing or it says it thinks the settings are wrong with 2 options "It is installed correctly" or "install using recommended settings" but both does nothing

  • I had no trouble installing other games except for this and the cnc gold edition :(

  • I can't seem to install it on Windows 7 64 bit. Any idea what I'm doing wrong? I've changed to Win95 compatibility mode for the files install.exe and setup.exe in both the install folder and the install95 folder on the mounted CD. Get an error message that the file is not compatible with my Windows version. I can't even chose to install in the program files (x86) folder.

  • Sounds didn't work to me... please help!

  • I LOVE YOU! THANKS A LOT FOR MAKING THIS VIDEO! IT HELPS A LOT! IF THERES ONLY wAY THAT I CAN REPAY YOU! Im A GIRL! 20 YEARS OLD AND RED ALERT FAN! ^.^ THANK YOU SO MUCH!

  • You can also run SETUP.exe with DOSBox, in case compatibility doesn't work.

  • works now, thanks for uploading!

  • thanks for the help so far. I have got as far as going to install it. it comes up with a screen that says "setup.exe: do you want to allow this to proceed". after clicking 'allow' the computer pauses for a few seconds then nothing happens. what do i need to do? thanks

  • I did what you said and changed setup.exe to 95 mode and it doesn't even run that, that was with the allied disc, I tried it with the soviet disc in 95 mode and it kept saying "this is a 95 game and you're running windows 6" please help

  • can u tell me though how i can get the two sides( allies and soviet) in one file so i can play all missions from both sides......tell me if i would need to download both disc and then do a merge if thats possible

  • hey this actually works follow the exact stepthat he gives and use the patch he uses inorder for it to work on vista the only problem is, the allies them sucks...lmao they dont carry heavy tank and grenade soliders

  • Many MANY thanks for this video, it was extremely helpful. Absolutely love this game :)

  • hey, I have the disk but that error message still comes up about some entry point.

can you upload just the patch.exe, patch.txt etc and give me the link to the ptach file. That would be great thanks.

  • @mightymanlap Just get the free download. I have the discs myself but funnily enough its actually easier to install the .ISO

  • hey, I have the disk but hat error message still comes up about some entry point.

can you upload just the patch.exe, patch.txt etc and give me the link to the ptach file. That would be great thanks.

  • Works for me (win7 and XP).

    1 - run install.exe in win95 compat. mode

    2 - install the game (in xp/vista/seven 32/64 bit)

3 - set your desktop color to 16bit (fix the green artifacts on videos)

    4 - set RA95.EXE for win95 compatibility mode

    5 - play the game

  • @chrysocyonbrachyurus then how to do step three?

  • @daviesguns69 right click on desktop-screen resolution-advanced settings-list all modes

  • i like how you say you installed it correctly, dont change anything throughout the whole video, but when you double click on the icon on your desktop - you get the message saying it doesnt work. i clued in when you didnt double click it at the end.

  • i cant download it! the link goes to other link

  • yeah it wont install i hit install and everything just goes away

  • I've done all that and get a error saying... "Unable to set video mode".. any ideas what that means?

  • Cool worked for me :)

  • everybody that doesn't like magic disk iso use power iso everybody that doesn't know read direction on how it works that fuck'in easy

  • I dunno if people realize this, but this game is over a decade old, you cannot buy the disc unless you want it used, but that's beside the point, because this is the entire disc ISO image, so it's everything that was ever on the original disc(s). The problem has nothing to do with whether or not you have the physical disc. Furthermore, it's been released as freeware, this download is FREEWARE, meaning why the hell would you PAY for it?

  • Can red alert 2 work on window 7??

  • Hey it worked fine for me!!! But After i pass the first mission and clic to perform the 2nd mission it asks for the cd and kicks me out of the game

  • the same error msg in ur video that what happend with me and i did all u said and this msg is still here :S ?!! i have windows vista is there any thing i can do ?~!

  • @DiabloSVV12 same here I need a driver for sound or something

  • ...just buy the disk??

  • I couldent even mount the damn shit, i used daemon, then i downloaded this magic thing and nothing.

  • I did all of this, but I get: "Error - Unable to allocate primary video buffer - aborting"

    No Red Alert : (

  • I need help. The game doesn't work even though i put the compatibility mode on

  • Why do you click CANCEL at 1:31???

  • Comment removed

  • Every C&C game works on win 7 64 bit and everything below.

If u have the "C&C:The First Decade" wich is the grand collection of all the games released. It will spare you allot of trouble.

    HF commanders!

  • Wow i feel stupid i was clicking on every file and put it to run in 95 and i fucked up the whole file good thing i had it backed up and good tutorial helped alot

  • thanks dude...solved de problem :)

  • it worked on xp x64, however it's just too persistence on win7(both 32bit/64bit)

  • You can install and play the DOS version pretty much on any system (Windows, Linux, Mac OS X, Dreamcast, PocketPC, PalmOS, AmigaOS, BeOS...) if you use DOSBox.

  • This is the code for 64 bit users, same deal as before, open notepad copy the code and save as a .reg file and select all files in the drop down bar.

    Windows Registry Editor Version 5.00

    [HKEY_LOCAL_MACHINE\SOFTWARE\Wow6432Node\Microsoft\DirectDraw\Compatibility\Command & Conquer Red Alert 95]

    "Flags"=hex:00,08,00,00

    "Name"="ra95.dat"

    "ID"=hex:cb,58,cb,36

    RA95 works perfect on Vista.

  • Ok, here's how I've got it working perfectly on Vista, do everything he says in the video except make sure you download the 3.03 patch. To get rid of the weird colours, you need to open notepad and copy this (for 32bit users)

    Windows Registry Editor Version 5.00

    [HKEY_LOCAL_MACHINE\SOFTWARE\Microsoft\DirectDraw\Compatibility\Command & Conquer Red Alert 95]

    "Flags"=hex:00,08,00,00

    "Name"="ra95.dat"

    "ID"=hex:cb,58,cb,36

save the document as all files and as .reg and then run the file

  • i actually got the disc and i cant get it to work and its got to the point that im prepared to go and blow electronic arts away.

  • red alert classic for the win! :D

  • Thanks man, it helped a lot. Now I can remember old times.

  • where can i even download it from

  • I Follow the simple step for changing the compatibility but i still get this erorr "Windows 6.0 is currently running. This version of Red Alert is a Windows 95 product only."

  • @MystikPenguin

Nevermind I solved the problem by launching the Setup.exe instead of just loading the autrun.

  • I am trying run Aftermath on Vista. I've followed the instructions on various website... (install red alert, install counterstrike, install aftermath). Red Alert and Counterstrike both work fine. But aftermath just resets the resolution, and crashes, leaving the dreaded 'egg timer' on the screen.

Is there any way to overcome this?

  • plz explan RED ALERT 2 in Windows 7

  • my units keep dying. what should i do???? please?????/

  • i installed the red alert 2. when i start the campaign mode, allied or soviet, after some seconds my units simply die. second time i replay, they die even before the cutscene ends. what should i do???????????????

  • iraqupmax1997 you windows 7 is just windows vista but a working version because windows vista was shit

  • how to download and install it on windows 7

  • get an xp x64.....windows 7 does not support most of abandonware like vista/xp did. the compatibility on win7 is just terrible.

  • @iraqupmax1997

Dear everything should work on the 64-bit version

If you have the 32-bit or 16 bit version do everything that is said in this video and it will work.

There is however one extra step you have to take:

The Setup exe file must also be run in Windows 95. (This has to be done seperately)

    Good Luck

  • Is there sound??

  • i need help.mine says could not read file language.mix..help?

  • mate thank you, I have many hours of old school red alert brilliance ahead of me!

  • and what about windows 7

    you know something for that

  • WHERE DO I DOWNLOAD RED ALERT 1

  • @dofferton2 type in the commandandconquer website forward slash classic

  • doesn't work with WIN x64 bit version ! :(

  • @DjMaTRiX619 64-bit versions of XP, Vista and 7 don't have the 16-bit subsystem.

  • why does the color doesnt diplay correctly?

  • dude, you rocks...thanks for the video

  • i also can find the CD1_allied_Disc.ISO

  • every time i press Setup, it says unable to find necessary items. please run setup.exe from CD-ROM disc

  • EA should have modernized this game ages ago to make it work with modern computers. Tetris, pacman and all classic games have allready been upgraded.

  • vitun paska video tee mailmalle palvelus ja tunge se perseeseeeeee!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

  • Hey how do you open the RTP patch file. My windows Vista doesnt know what program to use to open. I transfered the files to where it was saved. Right now if I run RA I just get a black screen

  • It works on windows 7 too, cheers man, you are a lifesaver

  • Thx dude, this really helped alot :D

  • wtf is 7-zip

  • do they have the cd crack allied red alert 2 on ea's website? i cant seem to find it

  • So after all this patching which anyone with a brain can figure out ... how the **** do you get rid of this: "Red Alert can't detect you CD ROM drive." ?!?

  • Best Accent ! love british

  • thanks, I forgot two things: copying patch files into redalert directory and changing compatibility mode at the end of process

  • Im using Windows 7. But when I run Setup in win95 compatibility mode. the install sheild runs but when it reaches 100% a setup warning pops up and says: "unable to locate necessary files. Please run setup.exe from the CD-Rom disc".

  • Easy fix for the color issues: After you have started the game, return to the desktop, open the taskmanager and end a running process called "explorer.exe" (if there are multiple instances you may have to end all of them). Then, return to red alert and the colors should be fine.

i still don't know what excactly causes the problem but it's probably a compatibility issue of DirectDraw interface.

but there is barely any info about this so i guess it only occurs for few people.

    hope this helped!

  • what about the counter stike and aftermath add ons?

  • This is awesome video! Thanks for the help dude, my Red Alert works now :).

    LOVE YA!

  • --If you want red alert (one) go to google and type this in "FullRA+" by N3tRunn3r -with it, red alert will install itself, working on XP and some Vista systems also playable online (Not Lan) if you have a vista/7 system (like me) and still wish to play you need to make a batch file that shuts down "explorer.exe" and runs the game, this will get rid of most errors you'll find including the color being all F*ed up

  • Can't start patch.exe. It just show me very fast a lil window... Could someone help me?

  • @WithePaladin Done! Now this problem -> When the game is starting, i get black screen with "Error - Out of Memory" lol

  • @WithePaladin I've got the black screen 2 ... do I have to wait long enough to get the error message ? Did you fix it yet ?

  • @laura43fun No i didnt. May i have a wrong starting .exe

but i dont care about it at the moment... Good luck for you and sorry :/

  • even after i put setup.exe in win95 compatibility mode every time I try to install I get a warning message saying "windows 5.0 is currently running. This is a win 95 product only" or some such. I am currently running Win2000

  • I did everything like you said but when I want to play the game I click on ra95.exe and I get only a black screen. the story doenst even start. What should I do to fix this?

  • hey man this video is awesome but i have a problem. i used winRAR to extract it. but after the moutning part the thing doesnt install. so i went to my computer like you did, went to the drive opened it and look for the "SETUP.EXE" but it wasnt there. so i can go to properties and change the compatibilty to windows 95. and ideas?

  • @rthomas22892 The same has happened when I tried. Did anyone get back to you on this? I even uninstalled winRAR and installed 7 zip and ran into the same problem. Did you get this addressed?

  • @rthomas22892 okay, I should have read ALL the comments before responding a moment ago. I noticed the author had a suggestion for this very problem upon publication 2 years ago. After you mount and open, click on the file Setup95 and apply the compatibility settings to the setup file 4th from the bottom. Mine still didn't say ".exe" but it let me install.

  • How do you change the resolution?? Everything looks all grainy and unclear. When i go into the options all they have is visual changes which are tint brightness contrast and color nothing about resolution. Messing around with the settings they give you does nothing

  • It worked like a charm thanks a lot man!

  • hi,

When i press on Install RA1 nothing happens :( pls help me!

  • when i start the game it comes up with, The procedure entry point., i dont know why it still does that. the only application is working is Map Editor but the game does't i did everything what is on the video.

can someone please tell me how to solve that problem?

  • It worked perfectly on xp! thanks

  • yep this didnt help at all. that fucking magic disk shit didnt work... maybe because you didnt show what to do with it. i downloaded it, and i tried to mount it and with your great description of how to do it "double click it" guess what.... absolutely nothing happend. now what genius. i fucking give up

  • honestly, this didnt help me at all. not im just getting pissed.

  • anyone know how to install it on windows vista 64bit? if so please reply thanks!

Oh it always says (I put it on windows 95 compatibility) that i need a 64bit version -_-

  • It won't work in windows 7 64 bit, but I wonder if it will work in dosbox?

  • Hi there, I managed to successfully complete the whole process however the last thing that stops me from playing is a message that says "Error-Unable to set video mode". I'm sure this is a simple procedure but I'm still baffled. Any ideas would be great! Cheers

  • did this expire

  • I've been trying this with windows 7 64 bit.. the only problem I've been having is that it needs to be 64 bit compatible. I've tried doing the drop-down compatibility then win 95, but that doesn't work. Anyone know how to get this working on 64 bit windows 7?

  • @Morelloo1

    bump

  • hello peeps.. do yhou kow how to install red alert 1 on windows 7? pls help

  • btw dude i did everything as u instructed till the last step (i coped the patch files into the instal directory, then the compatibility check) and when i tried to run RA95.exe it still shows me that KERNEL32.dll error.. is there something after the compatibility check that i missed? pls answer and thx :)

  • @warkraft1 hi did u got ur answer cuz i got the same problem.... DX

  • @mayzsam unfortunatelly not yet :D

  • @warkraft1 did u have an answer ? bcz its happenin the same thing to me :S

  • can u upload it somewhere i can find the file

  • Here's a way:, first install FullRA+, this doesn't come with the videos so you'll have to get the ISOs and mount them and use XCC Mixer to extract the "movies1.mix" and "movies2.mix" from the "MAIN.MIX" files from both the ISOs and extract all files from "movies2.mix" to a folder and then use XCC Mix Editor to put them in the "movies1.mix", you can delete the cryptic files in them which are just random letters and numbers but keep the named files and copy the "movies1.mix" that you just edited

  • @Andthatswhymacssuck and put it in your C:\westwood\RA+

  • Will this work on Windows 7?

  • it doesn't work on windows 7

  • Thanks man. I love the Red alert series, I've beaten RA2, yuri's revenge and RA3. So I had to play this game. Oh and this works for the Soviet campaign!

  • Does this also work on windows 7? I'm getting a new computer soon and i really want to play it again.

  • hey you know you can play red alert online for free? people still play the game.

they play here tunngle dot com. look at this website too ra1.me. if u have any questions just message me :).

  • oh ra1.me is where you can download Red Alert for FREE and tunngle dot com is a gaming client to play red alert with others and is FREE also. message me if help needed.

  • Fuck me dude it worked!! Your awesome!! XD XD

  • wha\en i try to install it i get the message "Runtime Error! Program: E:\autorun.exe abnormal program termination

  • how do you mount it

  • Thank you very much. This video helped a TON. Got the game and the expansions up and running.

    THANKS!

  • The folder that you are in right at 3:01 in the video is the folder that does not exist in my computer. How did you get that folder, everything that has anything to do with this game that i downloaded is in the dvd drive K, there is no separate folder somewhere in my pc with westwood/red alert stuff.

  • I followed everything you did and now im stuck on this one part that you seemed to go through easily. Its when you copy and paste the patches into the folder you downloaded Westwood in. I cant find that folder i downloaded Westwood in, it makes no sense because I thought dvd drive K thing is what Westwood was on. Please help this is so aggravating.

  • Do you need to have a working disc drive?

  • dude i dont understand the words u saying. Just reinstall the game as normal procedure.

  • Does this work for the Soviet disc too?

  • I'm dying to download RA 1 and play on windows vista...is it too late for that free download? If so where might I be able to get it?

  • @bhartford01 w w w (dot) gamereactor.dk/nyheder/70777/Red+Alert+helt+gratis/ only link i know that's free, but it's Danish, just press the first or second "her" to download either the allied or soviet disc.

  • thank you!!

  • Easiest way to get this working, at least on 64-bit, is using the

    -- Red Alert Setup Manager v0.98 --

Installs everything using the downloaded ISO and you're ready to go. The only problem is that the scrolling speed is incredibly fast :S

  • redalert95com

  • Fantastic But How do I Change The Videos so that they are not Crap!?!?

  • How do I make this freaking thing work on 64bit?

  • thx mate

  • why i am getting this message:

'to run this application, your screen resolution must not be less than 800 x 600'

    need help ASAP anyone?

  • When I downloaded the game to my desktop I burnt it strait to a cd. I then went into the cd and changed the compatibility to 95 like your said but it still comes up with the error message during the installation. am I doing something wrong??

  • well somehow i managed to install it and when i started the game after doing all that i get this Unable to buffer Error, somthing like that

  • @Sandy1994Uk where did you get the download from??

  • CD1 allied disc ISO is not an iso for me, its a zip archive wth do i do? im gonna redownload but the download was successful so i dunno how this coulda happend

  • same error and i followed all the steps!!!!

  • Worked for me using XP.

Great guide but you should have said how to use both disks, had to figure it out myself.

Just set you magic thing to 2 drivers and then just mount the 2nd cd.

  • Thank YOUUU GOD!

  • you're a friggin' star fellow brit!!! Was skeptical at first, but followed you exactly and it works!!!!

  • i still get the same error?????

  • @ohara2k8 ME TOO
