@rentatrip1 hi rentatrip1...it was a pretty fantastic day. Budgie, as we like to call it, is a fantastic site for hang gliders. These guys really are masters at it and are like one with their wing, is pretty amazing to see. im glad you enjoyed it as much as i did. thanks for posting :-)
Mr. Andrew - I think I was about the third person to view this on You Tube when you first uploaded it---Now I still think it is one of my Favorite Clips on You Tube for 2011-
@donliddard hi Donliddard - Budgewoi is a great beach, miles long and high enough to get plenty of altitude, an eagle came and flew right below me one trip. A 'fun' place to have some fun with the Fun190s :-) thanks for posting!
Looks like a great place to fly mate. I have to do some gooning some time next season. :-) Tell me, did I imagine it or did you only have one leg loop on that day?
@Davospace1 Budgewoi is a great place to fly - definitely two leg loops in - they are very loose and not so comfortable so recently I've got myself a custom made one from a bloke who makes great gear up towards the northern beaches - can't wait to try it out!
@MrAndrew1101 It looks like a great place mate. Venus Bay is much closer to home than Budgewoi so I reckon I might have a go there first. Good luck with the new gear (:-))>
@1DuneRat thks DuneRat - some of the same characters of the motley crew brigade fame were seen flying the Frenchmans little bay - different dunes but same wind, sun and plenty of Funs too :-)
just figured out what this reminds me of. for years i've wanted someone to make a movie of kim newman's "The Bloody Red Baron", an alternate history of WWI where dracula leads germany's military, his secret weapon a squad of groomed super vampires who shapeshift into fighter-sized bats onto which gun racks are attached. your movement hovering on perches is exactly how i saw them on top of the castle, preparing to launch.
this video rules. almost hard to believe it's real. world class camera op.
@2ndAsstJizzMopper I've heard of that one - sounds very unreal :-) it wasn't a bat though a sea eagle came and flew with me for a long while, a real magestic bird. the camera went flat about 5 seconds after he came into the frame. I'll keep an eye out for the Bloody Red Baron when I'm flying :-)
excellent video! Wonderful site too. Took a look at Google Earth, I was amazed that apparently the dune is barely 10 meter above sea level! It's that right? You had quite a lot of lift. What was the wind speed?
It's great to see how much fun you can get there with rather old wings, no need to high tech topless wings to enjoy dune flight!
Congrats, hope you can fetch and film the eagle next time.
@cdcordobaparamotor hi CdCordoBaParamotor, yes, the dune is about 10m high at most and was blowing at 20kts+ we get plenty of lift, at times it is hard to penetrate forward. The Airborne Fun190 design has been around for a long time and very popular in Australia as a training and dune gooning wing (very safe design). Many pilots of high performance wings still keep their Fun190 for the coast for that reason. thanks for posting :-)
@pdutube thanks Pdtube, glad you enjoyed it, those guys can really fly! there was a sea eagle that came and flew with me right as the camera battery went flat - he flew all around me, underneath turning his head to eyeball me, out in front, an absolutely spectacular specimen, he looked healthy and must be getting plenty of the fish out there in the breakers
@Rallyant thanks mate, better to leave it garaged if unregistered, young AT would be good for a lift im sure if it is on next time and paperwork still in the mail. catch you next time!
Curious ? Just exactly what is the main purpose of that horizontal hitch rail lumber post ? does that Beach have a great amount of equestrian traffic . is that a hitching Post ? Or is it specifically a Birdie Perch HG Launching pad...?
@rentatrip1 hey Rentatrip, that was my first visit there, and certainly didnt see any evidence of equine traffic...it is common on ozzie beaches to have those style of posts, partly as sand dune stabilisation, all along the dunes is the webbing material to hold the sand and give the plants a go. it also aids beach goers to be able to sight the pathway as otherwise down on the beach you cant see where the next path is..but it does make a good touch down and launch pad!
@rentatrip1 thanks Neil - that is pretty cool...the "That's Freedom" clip made the Vimeo Hang Gliding Group feature video too...great to hear people enjoy the clips :-)

The motley crew ........ another Budgie day ........ wind, sun, sounds of the sea, ocean swells and smells, and a great bunch of people.

This is one of the coolest hang gliding videos I have ever seen! Now someone needs to learn how to skim the ocean and snatch up a fish!
