Thanks, suspected it was some grand southern mansion just have never seen anything quite like it. Great movie & just as spooky as when first saw it almost (gulp) half century ago; as for cast creme of the crop?
Oh ~ will have to get this on video I saw it when i was young (8or9) ~ God it scared me it was TV one Xmas ~ I remember the head & the stump of the neck ~ Ha Ha! ~ I can laugh now !! ~ another one was the Haunting that got me ~ I can also remember sitting at the bottom of the stairs at night when Alfred Hitchcocks half hour was on just the theme tune scared me (Funeral march of a Marionette) ~ Such scaredy cat I was as a child ~ Ha!
I must admit, I got bored with this film quite fast. But I held on till the end, thanks to Agnes Moorehead's terrific performance!
I think I got bored by it because I was expecting a film that is as over-the-top as What Ever Happened to Baby Jane (far better that this one)... and the story of this film is VERY similar with that of Les Diaboliques (again, a far better film than this one).
omg!! the dream sequence is a trip! this movie was in my childhood favorites, i actualy used to hate it as a kid but my mom had a thing for bettie davis movies and well now i appreciate a good scary movie.
like i always say, no one does 'crazy old lady' quite like Bette & this film is amongst her classics. If you were creeped out by this check out 'the Nanny', i first saw it on TV (the midday movie of all things when i was home from school sick) when i was about 13 & it scared the living daylights outta me lol
looks like a good film. I love black-and-white movies. No sex, no nudity and no language...just good acting and smart storytelling. These days, whenever a woman takes off her clothes, she's instantly an actress. what a shame. "Gone With The Win," "Casablanca," both versions of "Ben-Hur" & "The Ten Commandments" (1923 & 1956) and others are examples of great writing and excellent acting. See "All About Eve," another classic film.
God when she slaps Bette in the face like five times.... overkill...love this movie...the only scene missing here was when she stands on the Balcony of the mansion with a rifle and says "git off my propertea - you hear" NO ONE even close to Bette Davis these days..... great gothic picture about the deep south
FUN FACT: Originally, Joan Crawford was going to play Mariam, but they changed it to Olivia, still, there is one shot that they kept in the film of her getting out of the taxi, and its Joan Crawford!!! Look for it next time! You'll be able to tell because she has on sunglasses and black clothes.
have u guys found the new rogue hack that will let you cheat in arena? its awesome, my own rogue is in complete arena pvp equipment 2200 rating! i don't really really want to share this but what the hell.. you can find it on wowcheatsYnet (replace Y with . ) but please don't tell too many people!
I saw this at a slumber party when I was 10...who in their right mind would rent this for a bunch of little girls??!?!! I also only remember the part of the head rolling down the stairs!! Too much.
I remeber seeing this as a teen; and, in spite of how long it has been, I still remember the ending! Great actors and a great cast of superb supporting stars.
I finally got to see this movie the other day and LOVED it. For those that didn't notice, Victor Buono (Sam Hollis) and the taxi driver were both in Baby Jane, as Edwin and Baby Jane's father respectively.
It was a great script, and definitely scarier then something like Texas Chainsaw Massacre. Agnes Moorhead was AWESOME.
a long time ago i saw this, i never knew the name, but now i found it! the only scene i saw was the girl pissed off and this axe cut off this guys arm Lol
i love when olivia catches agnes sneaking bette out of the houe and says"you just can't keep hogs away from the trough can you" - this movie was better then baby jane!!!
This is truly fabulous. Olivia De havilland, Agnes Morehead, Joseph Cotten, Mary Astor- They're all great and brilliant. You might try amazon for a copy pn dvd.
This was the first time I saw Olivia de Haviland as the bad girl. She didn't convince me much (every time I look at her I just see Melanie Wilkens :-), but I loved her even so.
That movie, I saw when I was 5 in the back seat of a car, alone at the drive in cause me 15 years of being afraid of the dark, lol. Funny now BUT NOT THEN!!! THEY CUT OFF HIS HAND AND HEAD!!!
Hi, I'm Terry. I wanted to thank again, all the people who put theses clips together for all of us to watch. I'm 42 now, when I was in my 20's I used to watch all theses movies with one of my best friends. It's nice to remember...
You can still watch these kinds of films, you know? Thanks to RetroPlex and TCM and all of these kinds of lovely channels, it makes it a joy to see these films over and over again!
It would've been SO much better with Joan Crawford. Olivia overacted in all her roles. Betty Davis over did this particular role, also. She did such a brilliant job, though, in WHATEVER HAPPENED TO BABY JANE?
That was a pretty retarded reply to a comment that in no way meant to insult Miss Davis, one of my all time favorite actresses. My comment was directed at the characters & not the actors. Please, please forgive me for not employing their character names. Oh brother...
what's that jane? u forgotten? ok let me help u to remember for the rest of your scarred life! (a hot iron is pressed against your entire face for a cool 30 secs) There u have it! NOW DO U REMEMBER? ANSWER ME!
Agnes Moorehead was brilliant in this. Mary Astor was awesome as well, funny how Mary Astor was the epitome of understatement in acting and Bette was know for being so over the top but it works!
Love it! I notice Bette's "vile, sorry little BITCH!" is changed to "tramp" here on the trailer. The narrator is none other than the Lost in Space Robot, Dick Tufeld
Good actors make such a difference in a movie.

@TheNMR1 Actually, it's Houmas House. The Oak Alley mansion was used for Mary Astor's house.

NO, this was not filmed in Texas. It was partly filmed at Houmas House in Darrow, LA, and then a house was built to mimick the original house.
