  • Good actors make such a difference in a movie.

  • Thanks, suspected it was some grand southern mansion just have never seen anything quite like it. Great movie & just as spooky as when first saw it almost (gulp) half century ago; as for cast creme of the crop?

  • Intrigued by structure @1:13 Know it's some kind of Grecian Revival Colonial but columns on both sides, this active home builder's stumped;

  • @gyrene1966 It's the famous Oak Alley Plantation in Louisiana

  • @TheNMR1 Actually, it's Houmas House. The Oak Alley mansion was used for Mary Astor's house.

  • Sounds like the narrator on Lost in Space...

  • Clearly, having Bette Davis eyes is not always a good thing.

  • This is one of those forgotten about CLASSICS !!

  • True classic!!! Bette Davis at it's best and a great twist!

  • Oh ~ will have to get this on video I saw it when i was young (8or9) ~ God it scared me it was TV one Xmas ~ I remember the head & the stump of the neck ~ Ha Ha! ~ I can laugh now !! ~ another one was the Haunting that got me ~ I can also remember sitting at the bottom of the stairs at night when Alfred Hitchcocks half hour was on just the theme tune scared me (Funeral march of a Marionette) ~ Such scaredy cat I was as a child ~ Ha!

  • Looks interesting and a brilliant cast, Olivia De Havilland is the only of the actors and actresses who is still alive.

  • I must admit, I got bored with this film quite fast. But I held on till the end, thanks to Agnes Moorehead's terrific performance!

I think I got bored by it because I was expecting a film that is as over-the-top as What Ever Happened to Baby Jane (far better that this one)... and the story of this film is VERY similar with that of Les Diaboliques (again, a far better film than this one).

  • I used to watch oldies with my grama. My favorites were always Hush Hush Sweet Charlotte, Calamity Jane, The Bad Seed, & Mystery of the Wax Museum.

  • omg!! the dream sequence is a trip! this movie was in my childhood favorites, i actualy used to hate it as a kid but my mom had a thing for bettie davis movies and well now i appreciate a good scary movie.

  • like i always say, no one does 'crazy old lady' quite like Bette & this film is amongst her classics. If you were creeped out by this check out 'the Nanny', i first saw it on TV (the midday movie of all things when i was home from school sick) when i was about 13 & it scared the living daylights outta me lol

  • @tapesalvage

I also first saw 'The Nanny' at 13, on a day off from school, and it was a mid day movie!!

  • vISIT THE SET IN BATON ROUGE FUN

  • visit the mansion in BATTANN ROUGE HOUMAS HAUSE FUN!

  • thumbs up if you think that 20th century fox must do a remake

  • Horror novel see video book trailer

  • looks like a good film. I love black-and-white movies. No sex, no nudity and no language...just good acting and smart storytelling. These days, whenever a woman takes off her clothes, she's instantly an actress. what a shame. "Gone With The Win," "Casablanca," both versions of "Ben-Hur" & "The Ten Commandments" (1923 & 1956) and others are examples of great writing and excellent acting. See "All About Eve," another classic film.

  • i remember when i was 3 years old i had to wake up my dad to have him watching the movie with him.

  • thank you for this i havent seen it but want to i think bette davis was great in everything she did cant wait to see this movie

  • God when she slaps Bette in the face like five times.... overkill...love this movie...the only scene missing here was when she stands on the Balcony of the mansion with a rifle and says "git off my propertea - you hear" NO ONE even close to Bette Davis these days..... great gothic picture about the deep south

  • My name is Charlotte... and this creeped me out. D:

  • FUN FACT: Originally, Joan Crawford was going to play Mariam, but they changed it to Olivia, still, there is one shot that they kept in the film of her getting out of the taxi, and its Joan Crawford!!! Look for it next time! You'll be able to tell because she has on sunglasses and black clothes.

  • Dick Butkus said he wanted to make the scene with the head rolling down the stairs on this movie happen on the football field.

  • have u guys found the new rogue hack that will let you cheat in arena? its awesome, my own rogue is in complete arena pvp equipment 2200 rating! i don't really really want to share this but what the hell.. you can find it on wowcheatsYnet (replace Y with . ) but please don't tell too many people!

  • I saw this at a slumber party when I was 10...who in their right mind would rent this for a bunch of little girls??!?!! I also only remember the part of the head rolling down the stairs!! Too much.

  • I really don't make movies like this anymore *sigh* To me the 60's was a great time to be in. Movies now a day just aren't the same

  • I was eleven years old the first time I saw this great movie and it scared the daylights out of me. Still love it!!!

  • loveeeee!

  • Wow, this trailer showed the entire film from start to finish including the plot twists.

  • 1:06 Melanie Wilkes!!

  • "you're a sorry vile little tramp!" love how betty says it. lol

  • I Love This Film!!! Its freakin' Creepy!

  • I love this movie. The ending is so satisfying.

I rate it above "Baby Jane"

  • i went to the place were it was filmed today & it was waayyy beautifu!!!

  • I remeber seeing this as a teen; and, in spite of how long it has been, I still remember the ending! Great actors and a great cast of superb supporting stars.

  • I Really Wanna Watch This Coz Apently The Theres A Character Called Charlotte Hollis Nd Wooo Thats My Full Name !!!!! X

  • I finally got to see this movie the other day and LOVED it. For those that didn't notice, Victor Buono (Sam Hollis) and the taxi driver were both in Baby Jane, as Edwin and Baby Jane's father respectively.

It was a great script, and definitely scarier then something like Texas Chainsaw Massacre. Agnes Moorhead was AWESOME.

  • @apollo100

I just viewed a movie on retrovision with Victor in it, called 'The Strangler.'

Good vintage movie and Victor plays quite a creeper.

  • NO, this was not filmed in Texas. It was partly filmed at Houmas House in Darrow, LA, and then a house was built to mimick the original house.

  • This was filmed at the Box Ranch in Frisco, TX. (Also the ranch that was orig. known as Southfork Ranch in Season 1 of Dallas TV show.)

  • This movie came out when I was 7 years old. My parents took me to see it, and I had nightmares for about 6 months.

It's one of my favorites now.

  • a long time ago i saw this, i never knew the name, but now i found it! the only scene i saw was the girl pissed off and this axe cut off this guys arm Lol

  • Nominated for seven (7) Oscars with no win. Today they'd make a big deal about so many nominations.

  • Love this movie. Nothing beats old classics! :)

  • i love when olivia catches agnes sneaking bette out of the houe and says"you just can't keep hogs away from the trough can you" - this movie was better then baby jane!!!

  • This is truly fabulous. Olivia De havilland, Agnes Morehead, Joseph Cotten, Mary Astor- They're all great and brilliant. You might try amazon for a copy pn dvd.

  • please post the entire movie. i haven't seen this bette davis movie and im so dying to see it.

  • Is the full movie on YouTube???

    Thanks.

    :-)

  • Ahh I love that movie! Scared me when I first saw it; doesn't help that I live in Louisiana, where it took place... O.o

  • This movie aired on TCM on January 30, 2009!

  • I loved Melanie from Gone With the Wind till this move. And hate Betty Davis.

  • yes, Mellie forever!!!

    but Bette is great!

  • HE'S DEYEAD HE'S DEYEAD!!! how gay is this I love it its so campy so gay why dont they make good shit like this anymore. I loooooove it.

  • OMG I saw this when I was little and it scared the shittt out of me

  • I'm so glad you can still watch these films

  • i love agnes!!!!

  • Or, for that matter: "Hush, hush, sweet Baby Jane."

  • Whatever happened to Sweet Baby Charlotte?

  • This was the first time I saw Olivia de Haviland as the bad girl. She didn't convince me much (every time I look at her I just see Melanie Wilkens :-), but I loved her even so.

  • Learn how to spell, toots!

It's Olivia de Havilland & Melanie Wilkes nee Hamilton.

  • It is really about love, loss, betrayal, and yrs of a lie that basically ruined a girl's life.

  • This movie rules!

  • I've visited Houma House where this was filmed, and I had the eeriest feeling in it the whole time.Expected to see Betty any moment.

  • the opening to this film scared me when i was young. and i had forgotten how many famous actors played in it. i love agnes moorehead!

  • What a great movie. A classic!

  • That movie, I saw when I was 5 in the back seat of a car, alone at the drive in cause me 15 years of being afraid of the dark, lol. Funny now BUT NOT THEN!!! THEY CUT OFF HIS HAND AND HEAD!!!

  • Hi, I'm Terry. I wanted to thank again, all the people who put theses clips together for all of us to watch. I'm 42 now, when I was in my 20's I used to watch all theses movies with one of my best friends. It's nice to remember...

  • You can still watch these kinds of films, you know? Thanks to RetroPlex and TCM and all of these kinds of lovely channels, it makes it a joy to see these films over and over again!

  • Scary, scary movie. I love it; I just can't watch it before I go to bed.

  • Oh my god thank you for posting this. BEST MOVIE EVER! uhahaha.

  • how is this a sequel to whatever happened to baby jane

  • Who told you that? It´s not. BTW. I have the song on Cd, sung by Patti Page...beautiful.

  • It wasnt that it was a SEQUEL, it was supposed to be Joan Crawford in the opposite role. She backed out.

  • It would've been SO much better with Joan Crawford. Olivia overacted in all her roles. Betty Davis over did this particular role, also. She did such a brilliant job, though, in WHATEVER HAPPENED TO BABY JANE?

  • They changed it from "vile sorry little BITCH!" to "TRAMP!"

  • Agnes and the song were robbed of Oscars!

  • Love the scene where Olivia slaps the hell out of Bette, back & forth, back & forth..!

  • hope u burn in hell for insulting our queen bette? how dare u...how dare u..slap slap slap slap!

  • That was a pretty retarded reply to a comment that in no way meant to insult Miss Davis, one of my all time favorite actresses. My comment was directed at the characters & not the actors. Please, please forgive me for not employing their character names. Oh brother...

  • what's that jane? u forgotten? ok let me help u to remember for the rest of your scarred life! (a hot iron is pressed against your entire face for a cool 30 secs) There u have it! NOW DO U REMEMBER? ANSWER ME!

  • Ok grrrl, time to get back on yur meds!

  • that's good! lol...we think both of us should update the latest version of Baby Jane...both of them will be proud of us..lol

  • Agnes Moorehead was brilliant in this. Mary Astor was awesome as well, funny how Mary Astor was the epitome of understatement in acting and Bette was know for being so over the top but it works!

  • This is on my top 5 and has been for years. I still cannot believe that Velma Cruthers is Endora from Bewitched! Talk about character acting!

  • Love it! I notice Bette's "vile, sorry little BITCH!" is changed to "tramp" here on the trailer. The narrator is none other than the Lost in Space Robot, Dick Tufeld

  • Favola

  • I only remember one part from this film: when the guys head rolls down the stairs. (saw it when I was 8)

  • either did i.... unfortunately now i'm 40!!!!

  • @alwaysthesun

    Either did I ... unfortunately now I'm 49!!!!
