This is the version on the K-Tel comp "20 Power Hits,Vol.2"..There is also a Lp Version that's different,too..From "Leftover Wine",the only Studio track,BTW. (The rest of the Lp is Live, recorded at Melanie's 20th Birthday Party!)
I have been singing this song (and loving Melanie) for most of my life. So far, peace has not come and this song needs to be passed to another generation. Thanks for adding the beautiful video to a powerful song.
This is one of my favorite tunes of all time but finding it on cd, in its original run time (4:50) is a frustrating experience. I can find any number of cds with a shortened version of the song (3:19) but not the full length version. Great tune by a great singer.
With hope comes faith in change. With faith in change comes change in attitude and with that change in attitude comes spreading our wings to our brothers and sisters throughout the world. Producing such love that can spread like a wild fire if all would open their hearts and spread their wings and fly into that rainbow called humanity!
This has always been one of my favorite songs in the folk/protest genre. The lyrics to this song are very powerful. The animation or computer generated bird in flight and its journey is awesome.
What the hell happened? We were so close - SO CLOSE - and here we are with the same sad, tired old world. I'm truly glad that I have no children and I'm an atheist, because much as I'd like to believe "there's a chance" I think we lost it. Maybe it was all just drugs, but I certainly did believe it once!
Wasn't that such a good feeling back in the late sixties, early seventies? I felt it too. Change, people with love for one another, equality, pro peace. It was the best generation and I/We have have memories that will last a lifetime.I have a son and have tried to raise him with the values of the 60's. There is hope.
Thinking the world will ever live in peace is a naive misunderstanding of man's nature.
All we can do is increase the amount of peace that is in the world, but hatred and war will always exist.
We have to defend those who are vulnerable, or there will be less peace every day.
When the good are strong, peace can be increased. If the good shoose to be weak, they will become victims of the lack of peace they allowed to increase.
What riveting imagery, thank you. I sit the second time I listen through and look into the big blue eyes of my baby Melanie gazing up at me while nursing and sing there's a chance peace will come in YOUR life and realize what a powerful image this is as well!!! Such innocence and trust the children have in us to make the world a better place.(She's named after this artist)
Natora, thanks for posting this song,Melanies best I think.I lived in this era, the 60's, and it brings warm and wonderful memories. Thanks for sharing. It's in my favorites.
thank you so much for this wonderfull video. this song is my all time favorite from melanie. hope, we´ve still got a chance- but we all have to work for it !!! LOVE & PEACE from germany
I so love what you have done here with this song. I love singing this song at home alone at my piano. I've wanted to record it, but don't know how to get permission. Thank you ever so much for putting this wonderful visual together with this wonderful Melanie song.
I have loved Melanie for so many years (36 to be exact). This song does still produce goosebumps and thank you Nalora for this beautiful video. Just wish we were nearer to the sentiments expressed in the song. Today, more than 100 innocent people blown up in Baghdad. Haven't we learned anything?
Worldwide, in the more than 100 wars and conflicts that plague out planet at any one time, thousands die at the hands of other human beings. It would be wonderful if mankind would eventually learn to coexist.
Truth and hope through magic of the digital age, now complimenting this gem. So precious, subtle, powerful, that it cries out to be heard! Thank-you Nalora for posting it, happy clattybrown found it! A mystery to me how Melanie crafted it. Youth, idealism, and intelligence of a rare and tender heart I guess. Many feelings rekindled when I favoured it over a month ago.
Sometimes it is good to keep the hope alive, and this is just such a beautiful song with so many subtle nuances and meanings. Thanks for watching and favoriting it!
Call to become the world, 1960's-70's before any Live Aid concerts. Does such perspective, relevant and inspired flow instinctively or did she KNOW the depth and power of her words? Mystic serendipity? Any insights, or in your Vlog?. Your coffee house is virtual, not strictly physical. I share distaste for rap. Somewhat positive is Black-eyed Peas 'Where Is the Love'. Questions in lyric provoke exploration of answers. Thanks Nalora.
Your connection to the war must be the key to your early understanding, which I certainly did not possess at the time. The young Melanie must have had this same sensitivity to the situation, understanding the carnage of the times- intelligent resistance to it.
Wow! I forgot how much I liked Melanie back in the day. I will have to get reaquainted with her music. I love this song. And the video is excellent. BTW, she lives about thirty miles from me, although I have never seen her.
