  • Are the engine cases the same from 04-06 because I am going to buy an engine case for my 04 since the engine case broke, but the engine case is for an 06

  • Can you not replace the side cover and pump?

  • Clip your coke nails fool..... Lol

  • so if I buy an 04-06 model now and the quad is in great shape does it mean it's ok, after 6-8 years if there was something wrong motor will go bad by now right?

  • Hey dude is gotta 09 R and my header is glowing red on a stock quad... is this normal????

  • @Sandeep9201 i have on 06 and it does it. from what ive read on fourms this is normal for those years. so im sure its ok for the new ones. once you get moving and some air flow around it, it cools down.

  • @Sandeep9201 yes its normal manual says don't let warm up excessive time limit.

  • Could i just by an 07 side cover and oil pump? Thanks.

  • thanks man, dont stop making videos like this very helpful

  • Just did mine this past weekend. Did the machine work myself on my bench mill but it could be done on a drill press with a mill bit and drills. Parts were $120. The install of the nozzle is not permanent- it does come out because it is only held in by an o-ring.

  • cant u just get a used 07 side cover?

  • Sent Mine Out To J&T. 7 Days. Decent People. Could Not Be Happier. The $200.00 Bucks Is Worth The Damage It Could Cause If Not Having It Done. Still Feel This Should Have Been Recalled By YAMAHA !!!!!!!!

  • i had an 05 yfz and what you said is the worst youv ever seen happened to mine hahaha

  • @Tooextrememx thanks! im sending my side case to J&T today!

  • hey there have a question..is it possible a 06 could have this upgrade stock? i just pulled my 06 apart n theres a nozzle sticking out...i have pics if u wouldent mind taking a look at...my theory is my quad was made late 06 so the slapped it on..but confirmed it in the 07...hit me up please im very interested in this...

    thank you

  • @Uzi4yoU00 i have heard that some of the later model 06's from California did have the upgrade done on them.what you would need to check is the vin plat should tell you the month and year the quad was manufactured.

  • @Tooextrememx But what about the Limited edition 50th anniversary yfz450. would that have this upgrade or was it just later in the year.

  • @Tooextrememx ok thanks.

  • can anybody else get on J&T products? its not working for me.

  • @Matt06yfz i have called the owner and left a message on his voicemail to have him caontac me so that way i can update my viewers on where to get this done.

  • @Tooextrememx

i just tried myself and its not working i really hope he didnt close up i was going to pull my cover off tomorrow to send to him

  • @schuckie0920 J & T site will back online in a few days. the owner went on vacation and didn't realize the domain was due to expire on march 4th.i will reply to all who would like to know when the site is back up as soon as it is up.

  • @schuckie0920 they are back up

  • @Matt06yfz J & T site will back online in a few days. the owner went on vacation and didn't realize the domain was due to expire on march 4th.i will reply to all who would like to know when the site is back up as soon as it is up.

  • @Matt06yfz they are back up

  • what about 04 yz450f dirt bikes?

  • @2004yz450f this upgrade don't appy to the dirtbike as the dirtbike holds more oil in the engine than the quads.

  • hi there i just wanted to ask if you know if the 07 yfz450 has any problems that need to be fixed?? like battery or the oil mod or other things please respond.

  • @Sandeep9201 nothing major like the older models.

  • oh ok i got u

  • can you just get an 07 side cover

  • @356yamaha yes you can just put an 07 side cover on but then you would still need to buy the 07 oil pump and total cost of those parts is more then sending it to the guys in the video description and having them do the upgrade.

  • @Tooextrememx thats what i thought i was reading the specs of a 2004 yfz 450 and it didn't say it was wet clutch same with 05.and 06 yfz's. then it said under 07 yfz 450's it was a wet multiplate clutch.some old 2 stroke dirtbikes weren't wet clutch you tranny fluid.in the spring i might try that cam mod i watched your video does it increase the horsepower or top speed?

  • @356yamaha thats 250-300 so you would end up paying more

  • @356yamaha you would have to buy the side cover plus the 07 oil pump which just as @freeridinguy said it would cost you alot more then just doing the upgrade to get the exact same outcome.

  • nice coke nail bro.. lol

  • @STiTypeUK thumb too

  • How necessary do you find this? I bought an 04 and I have a lot of questions about it. I know it doesn't have this mod done to it but it has a 13:1 piston and lots of goodies. Anyways I'm gonna send a PM about all that stuff. Btw what year is your Yfz?

  • @BWRProductions i personally think is is a high priority upgrade on all 04-06 YFZ's.i saw 5 totally blown motors last summer and 1 seized piston all because of the lack of oil.

  • @Tooextrememx is the 04 yfz 450 a wet clutch?

  • @mossow71 yes it is. most all atv's and dirtbikes have wetclutch systems

  • you need to clip them nails, wow they are long,

  • so why is Yamaha not responsible for fixing for free? wouldn't that be considered a recall

  • @MrOGarcia24 they did not take responsibility for the flaw because the YFZ was built for racing environment and in the racing environment you tend to rebuild your motor often plus the ruff terrain and jumps aid in shaking oil around in the motor and properly lubing all the parts.most people had there engines blow up when they were just doing field riding and light trail type riding where the oil would not be shaken in the engine and the oil would not lube all the parts. they corrected it in 2007

  • @MrOGarcia24 no, because the lubrication of the wrist pin is still there. its a splash design that is insuffucient to lube it, but it still kinda lubes it. So technically since its lubed Yamaha can say its not a recall.

  • does this also go for a yz 450 that is an 06

  • @grizzlylover9 yes they didn't fix this problem until 2007.

  • You can get this done alot cheaper it's 20 bucks for the upgrade with no pump u have to buy it seperate

  • @vicrsx i have seen the cheap and you get exactly what you pay for that way.this upgrade requires machineing the case cover to make a new port threw the cover for the oil to flow and without proper skill and knowledge you could seriously damage the case or even effect the proper flow of oil to your quad. i recomend having this done properly cuz if you mess up it could cost $200-$2000 to repair a poorly done job.

  • this is not true its just a money grabber. i own a 2004 yamaha yfz 450 i asked my mechanic about this he said its also not true.just change ur oil once a month

  • @mossow71 then your mechanic don't know what he is doing.i have been working on atv's and dirtbikes for over 25 years i have also seen first hand the damage done from not doing this upgrade, and on top of that Yamaha in 2007 admitted the flawed oil system in the 04-06 models.they also stated when the 07 was released that they repaired the flaw.

  • Comment removed

  • @mossow71 mine is just a reg 04 with black plastics and a grafix kit.

Yamaha released a 07 prerelease announcement on there website stating that the poor oil issue of the 04-06 yfz450 is a thing of the past with there new oil system design and that people would no longer experience premature engine failure do to the old oil system.

  • Too extreme... If your squirter does NOT have any play and seems pressed in, you may want to have it re-machined. Should have an o ring and a little play in the squirter. If it was pressed into the cover, you could have damage to the case and not have a good seal.

  • The oil squirter will slide in and out of the side cover. And there's a o-ring on the nozzle to seal the oil up and provide optimum oil pressure. If you own a 04-06 and this upgrade has not been done, I can do it for $80 + parts. Roughly 110 for the parts. Email: Andrewelmer21@yahoo.com

  • Hello, What`s the inconvenient of putting only the nozzle without the 07 oil pump?

  • @938936029 once the 07 nozzle is installed the quad needs a higher velocity oil pump to push the oil up threw the nozzel to keep a steady stream of oil spraying on the wristpin and connecting rod.

none of the places that i know does the oil upgrade have a package without the oil pump included.

  • @Tooextrememx There´s any hole in the case to put the nozzle or i should drill the case?

  • @938936029 this upgarde should only be done if you have experiance using a CNC machine and also have the proper design specs.

SEVERE DAMAGE could be done with out performing this upgrade properly.

i highly recommend having a profesional do the work for you.the link is in the discription.

  • Well if you do get that upgrade will it be good for a long time?

  • @Mrguitarmaster18 everyone that i know that has gotten the upgrade done have never had any issues afterwards.

  • Does this happend to all the 2004 - 2006 yfz's ? Please awnser as soon as possible

  • @Mrguitarmaster18 all 04-06 YFZ's have the poor oil issue, but you may get lucky buying one of these off of someone that has gone out and done the upgrade.always ask if they have done the upgrade and also if they still have the reciept for the work.

  • God this is a downer for these yfz's i wanted to get this 2006 yamaha yfz 450 special edition but i dont want to buy it then it blows up or something :(

  • wat if i just go trail riding? will it still affect everything? cuz im not racing so i wont have the motor screaming??

  • @kingsizereeses94 it is a lack of lubrication issue that is effected no matter how you ride.racers dont get it as bad because of the oil splashing around from jumping.

  • @Tooextrememx wat if i just add another quart or quart and a half of oil will it help or wont make a difference?

  • @kingsizereeses94 adding more oil will only fill the remote oil tank and not the motor.

  • @Tooextrememx wat if i put more oil in the motor?

  • @kingsizereeses94 i don't think it will help to be honest i have heard that a few people have tried it and still had motor failure but others didn't.

  • @Tooextrememx i still dont understand y it wouldnt get enough oil because where the crankshaft is, shouldnt it have oil below it? y is there a hole "where the little nozzle is now" up at the top wen the oil is gonna sit on the bottom? how is the oil supposed to make its way up throught the space ??

  • @kingsizereeses94 with the oil upgrade they do exactly what Yamaha did to all the YFZ's from 07-present which is added the squirt nozel and high velocity oil pump to squirt the oil onto the wrist pin which in turn rains back down onto the connecting rod.no is 04-06 the wristpin and connecting rode relyed on the oil shakeing around in the engine violent enuff to splash the pin and rod which doesn't always happen enuff and because of that those parts fail and do major damage when they do.

  • @Tooextrememx y didnt yamaha fix this wen they saw it happend? it like the 01 and 02 660 raptor with the bad transmissions. y did they wait so long to fix it? and how come everyone that has a yfz 04-06 didnt have any problems but some did?

  • @kingsizereeses94 they didn't think it was a big problem because not everyone had engine failure.i look at it as i would rather spend the $200 now to be safe then have a chance that i may be one of the unfortunate ones that has to spend $1200-$1800 to have the motor fixed because it failed.there are alot of differant ways to avoid engine damage but the oil upgrade is what yamaha did and the people listed in the discription on this video do "EXACTLY" what Yamaha did to fix there flaw in 07and up.

  • @Tooextrememx u said there r other ways to avoid this. what r the other ways?

  • @kingsizereeses94 i heard there were ways but never found out what they were because people didnt guaranty that they work.

  • @Tooextrememx o how long does it usually take for this problem to start?

  • @kingsizereeses94 unfortunatly there is no set length of time before something happens do to this flaw.some people have gone years without any problems but then again i have seen 1 persons motor literaly blow to pieces the first day he got his quad so i couldn't really tell you for sure.all i do know is that i felt everyone should be warned so i made this video explaining the flaw and giving they the info on who can fix it.

  • @Tooextrememx im just gonna get it and see wat happends cuz i have a month incase somthin breaks and they just put a new topend on it so ill also ask if they put the mod on cuz they said they put new cases or case on it. ill let u know wat happens and ill post a video the day after i get it

  • @Tooextrememx i had this happen to my 04 and i can stick my hand in the block on the bottom, the rod punched a whole out the fornt of the block and a little part of the jug.

I just bought an 06 engine where could i get this work done?!?

and i live in montana so where might be a problem

  • @MoparAmericanMuscle there is a link in the description bar under the video to a really great place to get the oil upgrade done.the do all the machine work on your side cover and give you the 07 upgrade parts you need along with a brand new gasket.

  • @Tooextrememx okay thanks and it comes with the high pressure oil pump?

  • @MoparAmericanMuscle yes it does that is why i recommend them to anyone that doesn't have this upgrade.they use the exact schematics that Yamaha has used on all there 07 and newer YFZ's

  • you sound like Matt Damon

  • Had the same problem

  • Did I miss the name of the shop, if so what is it. Thanks for the video

  • @nomax1a The link to the company that does the work is posted in the discription.

  • my squitter nozel comes out, it has a little ruber ring around it and it come off real easy, infact i blew some air in the hole to get rif of any obstrucions and it fell out, doesnt require much effort, i think it presses on top of the hole when you bolt on everything

  • @gusocorredor I have heard of a few people saying there's pops off when they have the side cover off. I will get in touch with the guys that did mine and make sure that is normal. Once I here from them I will post here.

  • how much does that cost. im soupost to be trading my dirt bike for the same model thx

  • @25Davidh the upgrade costs $200. take a look in the discription box on this video and the link to the best company to have it done is there.

  • im uploading my video right now

  • i will take a look once it is up

  • ok im gunna go do that soon, and ill post it later today

  • ill take a video and post it then you can get an idea whats goin on, still let me know what u think before i get it posted, thanks

  • try to get a quick video done i think that may help me more to figure out your problem.

  • i could have bad chain guides, but i dont think they would make the chain skip, maybe it could i dont know.. all i know is its jumping its timing, i was driving it when i first bought it and it was bogging and kickin in, i took it apart and the timing was off 8 teeth ...

  • Comment removed

  • i was just turning the motor over with the socket without the tensioner on the bike and it was skipping, i just put some pressure on the chain guide with my finger, it shouldnt be doing that right

  • thanks alot man!!

  • glad to help.

let me know what u find out.

  • the timing chain tensioner? is that what u mean by the adjuster. and whats the plunger...

  • watch my cam mod part 2 video it will show you the adjuster and the plunger part of the adjuster and also how to install it.

  • ok i have a 06 yfz 450 and im goin to check this out tomorrow... i got something to run by you, my timing chain is skipping i got a new chain today and replaced it and it better but still jumps, do i need a shorter chain or new cams what do u think..?

  • sounds like your cam chain adjuster is either stuck in or broke remove it and see if you can push the plunger in by hand.if you can then it is bad and needs to be replaced.you may also have bad timeing chain guides, but check the adjuster first.

  • we have 98 octane as well..... =)

  • btw, how would i know if it is too late for me 2 do this upgrade?

  • it's only too late if your motor has already blown up.

doing this upgrade can save you engine from any more damage being done.

  • if my motor had already blown up, then it wouldnt start right? or somethn else??

  • if your motor was getting close to going bad you would hear noises that are not normal when you ride or the engine is running.

now if your engine is blown it would not start or it would start and then stop real fast or not start at all.

  • can u post a video on ur engine running??please...

  • i will sent you a private message with a link to a running yfz450 since my quad is in pieces right now.

  • thnx, my 04 yfz sounds pretty much the same, so is my yfz fine??

  • you might be in good shape but again i would try to get the upgrade done one way or the other that way you are better safe then sorry.better to spend $200-300 now then $1500-2000 later.

  • yeaa, im looking forward 2 it, thnks for your help!

  • im doing the upgrade 2day, and i wanteed 2 ask u, do i also need the side case with the nozzle or i only need the oil pump?

  • yes you need the side case with the nozzel.

  • i was lookin for the oil pump and the nozzel the whole day, and i COULDNT FIND IT IN ANY GARAGE....=( but they told me to go to the show room and ill get it there, i hope i do...

  • most dealers or shops can order the parts they are a little expencive that way but again it is a small investment compaired to what it could cost if your motor died from lack of lubrication.

  • i forgot you will also need the 07 side case gasket because of where the nozzel is located there is a grove in the gasket on the 07's

  • cant i just buy the 2007 oil pump and the 2007 side case??i guess the nozzel is in the 07 side case...rite??

  • what is the gasket?? isnt it in the side case?? if not plz show me the gasket in your videos...

  • in this video you will see the gasket on the side case it is the black gasket

  • but doesnt the gasket come with the side case?

  • is the gasket the black thing, which looks like paper around the side case??

  • yes it does look like paper and some places will sell one with the side case.but if they don't make sure you ask for one.

  • do u have any idea how much the 07 side case and the 07 oil pump cost??

  • the case costs about $225 and the oil pump costs about $75.prices are quoted in US dollars.

  • damn the case is expensive!! but better to do it than being sorry, anyways does your quad work normally after u upgraded it, i mean is it the same, or better, is there a possibility of it breaking or anythng??

  • yea my quad works just like it did befor just now the wrist pin abd connection rod are getting squirted with a constant stream of oil unlike befor when i didn't have the upgrade it relied on oil being splashed up onto the pin and connecting rod.

  • i just had the upgrade done and its awesome =) and while the garage was doing the upgrade they also found out that my clutch has a problem and had it changed also...... plz tell me how can i be sure if my new oil pump works or not??

  • make sure your quad is cold(don't do this if you have been riding).

this will be a bit messy.

what you do is remove the screw that holds the oil line right above your oil filter and start the quad and let it run for 1-2 seconds you should see a good amount of oil leak from that line.

just don't let it run more then 1-2 seconds and don't rev the engine up.

  • i dont really know how 2 do this, but in the garage, after they installed the oil pump and everythng, i saw the guy open a screw while the bike was on, and then oil leaked out but then he quickly closed the screw and oil stopped leaking.......... is this what ur saying?

  • sounds like he already checked to make sure the oil pump was working so you should be good to go.

  • thnks for ur help!! =)

  • no problem glad to help.

  • i have a trinity satge IV exhaust on my yfz, is that good enough?

  • thats one of the better exhausts to use on quads good quality and performance.

  • is the trinity stage IV exhaust better than hmf??

  • the HMF has a little bit better performance gains over the Trinity but Trinity is still one of the top exahusts out there

  • i use 2 have another yfz with hmf exhaust, but the fucken police took my bike away, and this is my other yfz with trinity exhaust, anyways.............the police didnt give the bike bak!! =(

  • if u remember u sent me a link 2 a running yfz, it makes this internal engine noise is that normal?

    coz mine does the same

  • the noise is pretty common.the best way to lessen the noise is to make sure you use 92 or 93 octane fuel.

  • but is it still ok if i dont use tht kind of a fuel??

  • if you use lower octane gas that knocking sound will be more noticable.

  • but if the sound continues, is it a problem or not?

  • if it gets louder or starts acting strange when riding i would get it checked.

  • i did get it checked, and the guy in the garage said it is normal and tht 450 quads have this internal noise and its normal.....if i use higher octane fuels is it better? like 95 or 94?

  • yes that is a good octane too run unfortunatly where i am at the highest we have is 93.i would much rather run the 95 in my quads it runs alot nicer.

  • i use 95 octane in where i live, but the highest they have is 98, anyways i use 95 octane fuel but it still makes the noise.....is it still ok if it makes the noise? coz when i asked the garage they said its normal.....

  • yea the noise is ok it is common in sport quads. 95 octane is a good fuel to run i wish we had it here myself.

  • and how would i know if my quad has already damaged piston, bearing etc..?? plz answer as soon as possible!

  • the only way to tell is to do a tear down and check everything make sure all parts are within specs.i have posted a link in my Valves videos to where you can download the service manual for the YFZ450's.the manual is directed more twards the 04-06 models but it will work for general info on just about all model YFZ's.

  • btw.....i have my yfz for almost a year and a half, and nothing has happened 2 it so far, do i still need this upgrade or no??

  • it is better to be safe then sorry.just because nothing has happened yet doesn't mean it can't happen.

i recommend to all owners of 04-06 YFZ's to get this upgrade done to there quad even if they are having no problems with there quad.

  • how should u know if your quad has a poor oil in it ?

  • do you mean bad oil or poor oiling system.

  • bad oil

  • or poor oiling system, both!

  • i change my oil every 2-3 rides just to be safe.

poor oiling system can be seen if you don't have the oil upgrade on your quad by looking at the side case for the oil nozzel i point out in this vid

  • i live in U.A.E, and i dont rlly know where i can get it, do u think i can get it done in a normal garage??

  • sry where is U.A.E.?

i wouldn't trust a normal garage to do the work to put the nozzel into the side case because it requires really good machining skills.

i have only found about 3 companys that can do this upgrade and only 1 stands by the work they do.

onother option you could look into is trying to find a 2007 side case and just go out and buy a 2007 oil pump and put it on your quad but it may cost more then what the upgrade will cost.

  • United Arab Emirates, i think its much easier to find a 2007 side case and oil pump and put it on my quad rather than doing the upgrade..... but is the place for the oil pump already there??

  • you already have an oil pump in your quad the 2007 oil pump is a higher flow oil pump putting oil threw your quad at a higher rate then the stock 04-06 oil pumps.with the 07 oil pump you will get better oil flow and lubrication to the parts that need it.with the 07 side case you will need the higher flow oil pump to give a good squirt of oil to the needed parts in your motor.

  • yea, i know that , u said it in ur video =P but will the 2007 oil pump match on the 2004 quad?

  • yea it will fit perfectly.the company that did the upgrade on my quad sent me the 07 oil pump.

there isn't really much differance between all year YFZ motors they are almost all the same just newer year quads have upgraded parts.

  • thanks man, i really appreciate it! :)

  • glad to help.
