Shug - you absolutely crack me up. Thanks for all your vids - very informative and keep me smiling! Hey - noticed you brought 2 stoves on this trip - is that typical for your winter excursions? Especially with all the other stuff you have to carry??
@wilcoxtube White gas stove for melting snow for water and meals and a very light alcohol stove for hot drink and breakfast from the hammock in the morn. My winter kit is ever evolving with each season
Great videos - thanks a lot for the effort!! One question concerning your video technique: How do you film freehanded? Do you use a helmet camera or do you attach your normal camera somehow on your head/shoulder? Thanks for the help!
Your halarious man, love the videos. I'm still a little new to the hammock scene and your work sure helps me advance much faster. I apreciate the effort.
that spam was the worst thing i've seen on youtube and that includes the camel slaughter house and the Traditional Mongolian Method of Goat Slaughtering ....80)
My favorite thing about being in the woods on an early winter morning is when the sun starts to punch through and you hear the trees crack as they warm back up. Ahhhh, the simple things. Thanks for part 7!
I only wish the folks I pack with where as much fun as you, they think I'm crazy, I can live with that. You on the other hand, just plan nuts and "that's the way uha uha like it". Another great job. You the Man, the spam Man
Well ... it falls under the multi-use gear agenda.
I like the jacket with short sleeves as I don't need them on my forearms all day. The sleeves keep my pits warmer. I add the sleeves if needed later in the day. I use them as a pillow or put the add on down sleeves over my feet in the quilt for sleeping in real cold.
Use the sleeves as a muff from time to time. Lots of options there. Options .... love options.
I watched, I listened, I learnt ! Really! Oh...and I enjoyed, as always! I love SPAM All the beaks and claws and stuff...hehe! Once again, 5 big shiny stars :o)
As to that .... I bring the Mini-Atomic alcohol stove only for "breakfast from the hammock"... quiet, no flare up in the silnylon tarp. which is VERY flammable. MA weighs less than an ounce. Bring 1 ounce fuel for one breakfast.
It is my very favorite time of the trip .. laying in the hammock enjoying the morn.
Oh my, you ate the Spam right out of the pack. Cold even. Yuckers! I have to fry mine up in my cup, add instant grits and water. Then all is good. 1:12, do that deer things with your hands again :) Thanks Shug, another great one!
I have some material on the way, and as soon as it gets here, and the sewing machine is out of the shop, I am making a hammock, tarp, and snake skins...all with the help of your vids. Great work Shug!!!
Rabbit tracks? Deer tracks? Yeah - those were Yeti tracks if I ever saw any! You wouldn't want a Yeti bashing into you in the middle of the night either. No sir!
Try to look for potential flash flooding too a storm can drop rain many miles away and the run off will hit your valley with great force.(summer etc)
You could avoid the frost if you install a heater to your setup the heat would rise and the tarp would catch the heat and prevent the frost. I would be fearful of burning my equipment. You could maintain awoodgas stove but then when would you sleep?
I bet you could build a delivery duct from emergency blankets get 2 cold either woodgas or WE.
To make it work you would fire up a wood gas stove away from all your camping stuff that could be damaged with flying ambers. Then after the stove has a nice pile of ambers you place the reg clothes dryer duct ring over the vent and you would have heat for quite a while.
Alcohol stove would work cleaner and immediately as long as you allow air could suspend like they do with a hot air baloon? I bet you could build this 2 lbs or less.
Velcro tabs to attach your duct base under the hammock?
Measure the length/width of your hammock it could be tended to while in hammock the dryer tube would probably handle any ambers a woodgas would make. After you got it going those ambers will keep going quite a while toss a few finger sticks on and the fire would last pretty well. Use a fabric with a high flashpoint near where the dryer tube is mounted perhaps a nomex patch 1'x2' I guarantee you would be able to pack one less item to sub the weight and remove moisture from your structure.
Hammocks should have central heating. I would sleep in a hammock in the cold if there was no other way but there has to be a better way.Home we have the heat set on 60 at night and I am wrapped up tight I have a comforter an electric blanket then a sleeping bag on top. I don't do cold so well. Trucking I hopped out went indoors and hopped back in.
Age 16 Guthrie OK winter oncomming they said it isn't cold just wait I said "yeh sure" I hitchhiked home to Louisiana that day.
You are not Lazy nor an underachiever you are an artists. If you are going to do something you have to have a passion for that craft in order for it to inspire you. I can see once you get that passion Royal Armies could not stand in your way. It is exactly why we enjoy you and your videos of your life in the Autumn of your years.
What am I talking about you're a lazy old clown that hangs out in the woods trying to look like an oversized tomalle. Not a bad hobby very peaceful.
Pineapple - I had the same thought. I was certain this would contain the tarp rap we're all waiting for.
Great video, as always, shug. The tarp you are using is a speer tarp, correct? I can't remember if you said the winter tarp was DIY or not. Thanks for the hard work - you know, camping and having a blast and stuff :)

Hey Shug, I sure enjoy your vids, but I'm a bit confused by the logic of wearing a short sleeve down jacket and then wearing separate down sleeves.
Could you elaborate a bit on that for me?
Thank you
