People don't understand that James (Dad) sacrificed himself so you (the Player Character) could live, I don't think he intended for you to go in there to kill yourself. Sending Fawkes in is obviously the correct decision to make, because you, Lyons, and the Wasteland benefit from the purifier, nobody dies, and Fawkes comes out unscathed because of his immunity to radiation.

@Theonedue You clearly don't have Broken Steel installed. It's an add-on to Fallout 3 that lets you go beyond the purifier activation, with the add-on you can make Fawkes do it.

Yea I agree with that but then again if you have been following the fallout story line super mutants are just humans who have been injected with FEV virus. so to them it's nothing but regular radiation but remember the virus basically drains humans of their basic functionality' s. So when you the project activate it actually is killing the rest of fawke's brain. so in hence forth the game is calling you a coward for not sacrificing your own life but sending another basically human to do it.
