It's amazing what 500 years of European colonialism can do for Europe. This standard of living was financed by Western European colonial nations committing slavery, genocide, land theft, robberies. If anyone thinks this is not true, let's compare Denmark's standard of living with the conditions in 1492, when Columbus began European invasions.
Denmark had not a sizable colonial Empire,so that theory doesn´t quite apply in this case.
And colonial Empires were positive (riches)however also negative,hundreds of thousands inhabitants dislocated to the colonies,armies and navies upkeep,to keep them secure,non profitable exploration of certain places,government inefficiency,due to over stretching,etc.

I had the preconception that because they are "Northern" Europeans that they would be cold and reserved, you know, "unlike" Mediterraneans who are very open, hospitable and warm by nature, but I was so surprised when I found out that Danes have a great sense of humor, they are very hospitable and friendly. Denmark does have a conservative party but it is definitely not an anti-foreigner country, most local people I knew are very friendly and warm-hearted, I remember when I lived in Fredericia, I need to carry some suitcase from the suburb to the Train station, on my way one nice old couple offered me a lift since they saw me carrying all the cases. - best moment of my life.

Quality of life is such a hard thing to quantify or measure. Though I agree the top marks often land at the door step of the 10 microstates through out the world (Singapore, Hong Kong, Macau, Monoco, Andora etc) Small countries often get an even spread of wealth and prosperity. Though Norway and Denmark, which are both sizable, buck the trend. But all in all, when looking at the developed world as as whole...the difference is negligable.

i'm shure denmark all in all is a pretty good place to live. particular for the young people. Most citys have clubs for the young people, and they take the kids on tribs and stuff. This year i were in London with one of these clubs, and last year i were in Paris, next year its Berlin. And if 20 kids get together and wanna learn to speak japaniese, that'll be posible and proberly free too. I think what i'm tryin' to say is that Denmark is really good at keeping the kids of the streets...

1. We don't pay 50% tax -.- if you haven't got a Job you can get socialcheck which is 5500kr(ca. 950usd) a month. (3times lesser than average)
Our tax-system is a complex-model which works as follows:
You have a monthly amount of money which you don't have to pay tax from. This amount varies depending on your spendings on loans, transport, and such.
This is normally 4800kr. After this point you pay about 40% in tax until you reach the "top tax level".(30.000kr) after that its 50% of the rest.
