  • I did kululu based off of a view from only his back... Kululu is from SGT frog... the arms are meh, but the rest is BA, all i needed from this was how i should go about starting. xD now for texturing

  • @hamsterhill im using 2.5 does this tutorial apply to that version?

  • That was very helpful! Not as time consuming as most vids and just enough depth. Thanks for the tut!

  • please help, when i try to select the half of the body, it selects some parts and some unselected.

    can anyone help me?

  • its not line selcet mode its edge select mode, sorry to corect you :)

  • this was a nice tutorial as are the texture ones, but I'm wondering is there one for the animation and seting that up for the game engine?

    Even if not this helped.

  • can any one help me?? I have the blender for windows7 64 bit and I do not know how to box select to delete half the character i am trying to make. Am i supposed to do something or am i just out of luck, sry im a nub at this stuff lols.

  • Just wanted to say thank you. I'm just learning Blender and this was a great help.

  • @CameronFanSite

your welcome, although these tutorials are quite old and feature the old version of blender... it might be a good idea too download the new blender 2.5 and start learning on that as it is somewhat different too this version... and theres not much point learning this one only too relearn the new one hehe.

  • @CameronFanSite

Gotta learn it all over again? Oh, man. Thanks for letting me know, though.

  • please answer.

how come when i save it and close blender, and try to open it again, blender doesnt work...

it says "blender has stopped working" and just closes down?

i have to start all over again, i cant load my saved blender files?

  • oops, I forgot to halve it on both sides... nvm :)

  • um... When I do mirror a rotated version appears... Any idea why?

  • Press 'S', 'X', '0', 'Median Point', then 'S', 'X', '0'? Did you make a mistake or is it necessary to do it twice?

  • By starting modeling with a 8- or 16- circle, you can avoid all CTRL+R dividing.

  • At 2:45 i dont understand what your doing.

  • how can you go to back view if you dont have a num pad?

  • @executioner169 press ctrl and click front view on da menu

  • how do u do line select mode?

  • @madfly1088 shift and select the vertices

  • @madfly1088 shift and select the vertices while holding down shift

  • tytytytyty

  • This tutorial was incredible usefull so far... from noob to pro... LOL...

but.. please !!... help-me hamsterhill... what's this shortcut that you use on 2:48 ?? Can't figure that so far...

    Thanks !

  • @Strudellable ctrl+m x ?

  • mine wont go to back veiw now the back of it is stuck in the front veiw spot

  • Sorry I didn't mean it like that, and I thought I deleted that comment after i saw were u were going.

  • what is the point of cuting the body in half just to put it back together.

  • @jpbkidvid whats the point in learning if your still an idiot? lol ... try it your way then... see what happens

  • @hamsterhill no bad hamsterhill now go to your box

  • TIP 1: If you design it with very few triangles and use quads wherever you can, your subdivision modifier meshes will deform better. It might not matter for a model this simple, but you will avoid many headaches when doing more complex meshes.

TIP 2: Holding ALT while selecting a vertex will cycle through selecting the rings that pass through that vertex. For edges, it will select the ring that edge is a part of. Probably works for faces too.

Other than that, this is a decent tutorial.

  • Yeas so i really need help with something i got the blue prints that you use and made most of the model but when is comes time to mirror it i create 2 lines in it like you said (1 in front 1 in back) and i cut it perfectly in half but when i add the mirror effect it isnt balanced. half of the mirror image is inside of the real image and rotated a differnt way

  • @BeerAndBetter I think you should press ctrl + m + x

  • good tutorial

  • How do you use the face select mode?

  • good vid subed

  • Thanks for the tut, I'm new to blender, and just sort-of know how to get around the interface. This tutorial has really helped me understand how start creating in blender.

  • Thanks for the tut, I'm new to blender, and just sort-of know how to get around the interface. This tutorial has really helped me understand how start creating in blender

  • where is the next 1 dude

  • I'm sorry, you really lost me at 2:48, can you please write it down or add some text to the video when doing shortcuts? Like the tutorial so far! But really, help!

  • @Zorobay - Same in here, can't figure out yet what's this shortcut..... someone help us please !???

  • cTRL A?

    its Crtl + R people!!!

  • This was really helpful, thank you. :)

  • thank you very much for sharing ur knowledge. It was very helpful!

  • what about part 3 and 4 as you promissed in part 1?!

  • have a look on my account its called textureing part 1 and 2

  • Oh thanks i didnt know that.... LOL :)

  • Hi im am doing this on a laptop, i was woundering where the key is to get te back view as i dont have numpads on my lap top?

Great tutrorail by the way :D

  • ok well im pretty sure there is an option to emulate numbpad if you pull down the top bar and have a look in the top menu area thing.

alternatively you could click "view" under the 3d view port and goto the orientation you want from that list

  • @PurpleRatchet You just go to the "top -lower" bar, the top bar of the lowest bars so to say. There should be a text called "view" to the left of Mesh and Select. The same bar as when he added the background in the other tutorial.

  • if you put this in a game how can you move the body parts like when you make a run action?

  • bite the hand

  • when i mirror it, the sides dont line up perfectly. the front looks good. when i look at the back, they are both off of each other. i was able to fix this by rotating it and then grabbing it to line the two sides up perfectly. but when i went to do the arms, i was only able to do one and not them both like the video shows. luckily i saved the file before i mirrored to. so any thoughts and suggestions to help? i can post a video of my problem if needed.

    Thank you for your time.

  • why i dont see the background image?

i did all what i need, but i dont see it

  • how do you swich to ed mode at 8:04

  • togo between edit mode and object mode press TAB

  • Lolurcanadian.

    It's pronounced ZEE NOT ZED

  • a swing and a miss XD im not canadian... im a new zealander. and its pronounced however i want it too be XD

  • But I am. And I'm offended D:

  • C:<

  • >:(

  • ... why are you offended that? i didn't say anything bad about canada

  • I was aiming it at jim, sorry.

    Anyways, like your vids.

  • hello everyone is this program the gamecore 2.0? please tell me anyone

  • Ctrl+R

  • hi nice tutorial is there a third part for this one ?? ok let me know whene you have it ready thanks

  • i finished the guy but now im trying to make him run how do i do that is stuck in mirror so i move one leg it moves the other???

  • eather apply the mirror or add the armature as a modifire in the stack then put it so the mirror is first

  • What do u mean at 2.50? CTRL+Aim to mirror? what key is aim to mirror^^? the guide is good but kinda confused me at that point

  • lol CTRL+ M ... to mirror something.

  • Im stuck at 1:35 where you cut it in half using b? I get the little thing you get after pressing B but your too lazy to tell me what button to do now and im upset becuse i want this dude in my game. SO PLEASE PLEASE PLEASE PLEASE PLEASE PLEASE respond to me for once

  • You use 'B' to select the right half and then you delete it using 'X' and vertices.

  • line select mode? where is it, or the shortcut?

  • in the 3D viewport on the header there's a group of 3-4 small square buttons. one is acouple dots the other is a line, the a square and then a cube. the cube is for hiding backfaces but th e rest are for your line selection modes. vertex select, line select and face select respectively.

  • aaah, thx again

  • You mutterd somthing about tab so im still stick about 20seconds later

  • HEY can you just put the mode for download ?

  • the mode? you mean model? I belive i have actually in the next tutorial in the series which is the textureing.

  • 2:55 then press x exces and enter????

  • x for the X axis and then enter.

  • ok thx

  • i always found 3D diff. and in most of tutorials i saw i could never find one way to turn the modeling easy because i do 2D vectorial process so 3D for me is hard still, but thanks to your video and tutorial i learned what i need and how i have to work to model... keep doing awesome ideas and success dude

  • when i do the mirror to it the mirror side is rotated. How do I fix that

  • I think you are doing ti across the wrong axis... try change the x,y,z buttons in the mirror modifires options pallet.

  • that didnt work i think it is because i rotated it in the beginning because the mirrored side is rotated to where it would line up before i rotated it. I just started a new one with 12 faces i think so i didnt have to rotate it and it worked.

  • What was your total poly count for your character in the end?

  • No i dea did this yonks ago... probly was pertty tiny though

  • what do you say at 2:49??

    i don't find it..

    thx!

  • Ctrl+m to mirror then x

  • thx.. but it isn't working.. when i do this the character changes completely..

  • changes completely... that is an excelent discription... if you want an answer then i actually need to know whats going on... my mind powers don't work from this far away.

  • 7:18 or something?? :S what do you say?? click what??

  • set smooth.. i added an annotation to help

  • Comment removed

  • hey when you wanna see the body in 3d alone without the image behind it, how do you go back to the image being behind it? i always lose the image and can't find it again.

  • Press "View" then "Front" view

  • Go Veiw> Background Image and set the "blend" to 1.00 by using the slider.

  • How do you use that mirror modifier so something is perfectly mirrored, ex when you mirror it, there isn't a space in between them.

  • Where are the tutorials after the texture ones?

  • 7:20 click what in object mode?

  • haven't made them yet... made some other stuff

  • yeaa.. what?? can't hear it?? :o

  • Your videos are awesome! Keep up the great work! Make more, you'll be famous soon enough ;)

Like how you help people too, you may see some comments from me in the future. (Cos I suck)

  • how do you line select?

  • by useing the select mode dialog... there should be 4 little buttons in a row in the header for your 3d view one with dots one with a line and one with a face to represent the different draw types you may need to scroll the header across with the middle mouse button

  • Is there a way to add a different blender project to another kind of like how we added the blueprints in this tutorial? LIke if I have a character on one blender project that I want to add to another project where I created land for it to walk around on

  • yes goto the file menu then append then find the file and then select the object, material, mesh... whatever from the file you want to take stuff from.

  • hey i got the problem on the mirror mode, i cant align it with the original.

  • you may have your object center in the wrong place... try presing shift+c to center the cursor to the world center and then select your model and in object buttons pannel there should be a button for center to cursor

  • When I add the mirror the mirrored part is to the left of the original. I don't know what I'm doing wrong.. I can't align them or I won't be aligned with the blueprint. Please help

  • hey do u know if i can import rar files into blender if so how becuz i always try and it doesnt work

  • ... a .rar file is a compressed archive... and has nothing to do with 3d stuff... try downloading a program called WINRAR, WINACE or 7ZIP and then see what's in the .rar file

  • lol stupid people

  • lol... i think they prefer the term computer illiterate :P

  • or R.tard or interetard

  • maker check 9:20, its a enter text here box

  • that person who you model

  • did you watch the first part? its in the decription of the other vid

  • where did you get that image?

  • which

  • How can you import an item you made in another save file?

    BTW: Nice tutorial

  • in the file menu click link/append and you can then get objects, materials , mesh's from other projects into the one your currently working on

  • Thank you

  • i got it!!!!!!!!. i removed the modifier and duplicated the right side and scaled it the other way then selected all and pressed w then selected remove doubles. there was a black line going down the moddle of him i went back into edit mode and pressed controll + n then the black line ran away....

  • i have the same probleme as you and i removed modifier duplicated now how do i flip i and jion it together

  • no i have the modifire on its just that my left side armature dosent work the right side one does but moves the left side as well. example: i move his right arm up in pose mode after parenting it the right arm moves up but so does the left without the left armature moving.

I think i need to remove the mirroring but still leave the left side of the boddy on. (i dont know how to doo this.)

thanks anyway the tutorial was great.

  • press apply on the right side of the mirror modifire that should solve the problem

  • Hi im from NZ to great to see people from such a little country getting there stuff on the internet. Great tutorial it helped a lot. But when I put a bone amature in and parented it the bones on the left side didnt work. The right side did work but moved the left side aswell?. PLEASE REPLY!!!!

  • i think you forgot to apply the mirror modifire

  • ok i opened a new blender with the default cube and edit mode and every thing was back =/ but when i open my character mode its gone

  • when i opened a new blender with the default cube it was all back

  • ok i have a lil prob i got done with model looks great at ty alot ok well i was looking at the model and i did 2 render things then i was gonna go fix the legs a lil but now edit mode and every thing is gone i can only go to object mode what happend? any ideas cuz this realys sucks =/

  • hmmm.... not sure... try pressing CTRL + up... that mihgt fix it

  • Comment removed

  • how do u select all four at once? AT 3:23 ?

  • what button do u press at 3:15 ?

  • how do i enter line select mode in 2,48a?

  • its to look at the back... not copy anything... if it dose nothing you may want to make sure that numlock is on

  • you should put your mergeIndex to 0.0000 otherwise it can cause problems

  • dude nice

  • thx, its cool:) waiting for the 3rd part:)

  • ... have a look on my account... its named textureing

  • lol when your windows live popped up. lol.

  • Thank u great tutorial i can make models now :D

  • SH*** sorry about that i was in a hurry and wastn thinking straight but how do you do that and which MODELER do you use? if its the light wave 9 version i have thaty one please for the love of god post a tutorial!!!!! THANK YOU!!

  • its a free 3d modeling program called blender.

  • nice! you learnd me some. but when dose the animationpart comes? thats the one i was most intressed in :)

  • yea its comming its comming just been really really busy trying to find a job and uni's started up. so yea i have very little free time but i've started it. just need a good few hours to turn it into gold XD

  • hehe gold indeed :D

  • hey dude can you import a file or a pcture and edit it in modelor?

  • ...modelor? sorry but i make it a rule to only answer questions that i can understand. try again this time explain it abit better

    cheers

  • Did you add your own wires in the wireframe when creating your character or did you use the cube?

  • hu.... watch the first part aswell that might help you understand the process better

  • I did but I'm still lost...

  • im sorry dude but i have no idea what your asking... can you try refrazeing the question.

  • Would you mind showing me how to do 3D animation with human looking characters?

  • thats what the next few vids are going to be about rigging and then animation of this character... there going to be a while off because i've been too busy lately to do them

  • Yeah but you're doing a character with obvious rounded polygons modeling a person is completely different

  • gee's your awfully pushy for someone who's asking a favor. how do you know that animating a human is different from animating a cartoon if you don't know how to do it?

  • How am I being pushy? All I did was make a statement. I know it's different because I could easily model that character you've got up without watching this video that's what I meant. But human modeling is different cause it requires different more complicated steps

  • ... at first you said animation. yes modeling is different but you were origanally asking about animation which would be almost exactly the same other then you would need to add more bones for the hands and feet. i plan to eventually do a human modeling tutorial but its really something you need skill for try it yourself. or try make human. a tutorial on that is a long way off.

  • I've already tried that's why I'm asking for help

  • sorry but there is no magical quick fix way to model a person. you just need to keep practicing your modeling untill you can do it. even i have trouble modeling good looking humans. if you just want a human model i can sell you one

  • Uh no no no no no no I'll use my own characters but I really wish that there were online tutorials specifically for Blender that makes itself known once you install it

  • on the mirror, you can just select "Apply"

instead of the keys u did

  • what part was this exactly... and why do people always assume that because i didn't show you something doesn't mean i don't know it.

  • That's true...I might move to blendernation eventually, but Nystic is good for beginners like myself.

  • blendernoobs... i think is the best for beginners... i'm currently on blender underground there the best
