  • what do you do if the teeth on the side arm thing are ground down and the gears dont catch it to pull it do you kno where i could buy the piece?

  • hey junker

i opened up my ps3 the fat one and i opened up the disk drive and i closed it back and i reopened it and now their are these too little gray sticks poping up from the fron were the 2 little holes are at in the front were the disk gets inserted into? and i cant put in the cds because it is like a barricade what happened please help mi!

  • @luisyale15 Your drive needs to be realigned so that it is in the ejected position again. My "revised emergency eject" video has a quick way to align it and put the optical drive top back on properly.

  • Hey junker15

i have an 80GB ps3 and it used to work perfectly until rescently it began to trip off, beep three times and the green light turns into a blinking red light, when I play all games except FIFA12. i dont think it is an overheat problem. i think it has somthing to do with the lense. And everytime i play the games that trip off my ps3, it always goes off at a specific place. So if you or anyone has any information on this problem I would really appreciate it.

  • @owenzarido this "Yellow Light of Death" problem is typically not a lens problem. It's most likely the usual issues that produce the YLOD (bad solder joints on the CPU or GPU from the console heating up and cooling down over and over)

  • I laughed soo hard at 3:07 I'm going through the same issue right now

  • Thanks for that molex info junker15. Do you have any experience "reballing?" I have a PS3 with a bad BMD-002 A4 and I am wondering if I could solder the BMD "key" to a working BMD-001 A3. Thank you again in advance.

  • @greentree823 I haven't done any SMD rework of this nature on the PS3 (yet... just got some rework equipment), but if the flash part is the same part between the two boards, it should work. I can't imagine Sony having different firmware for different revisions of the controller, but that might be something to keep in mind if it doesn't work...

  • hello, is there any video you can post on how to connect the spring on the back of this disc loader. Thank you.

  • Hello junker15, I have a similar problem that ratedrsuperstar1992 had. I have no knowledge of the "power cable was ripped off from my motherboard," but I did purchase the PS3 off of ebay. I have successfully fixed two systems and had the luxury of swapping parts to check functionality of the different components. I have determined that all the parts are working correctly and the problem resides in the inability to get sufficient power to the Blu-Ray drive. Does the alternate power supply work?

  • @greentree823 I haven't tried it myself, but from measuring the voltages of a good PS3, it should work if you make up an adapter for the drive's power connector to a 4-pin Molex connector...

  • ok i seriously dont know where the gears go and you need to tell me cuz its like super annoying you cant just say to go to another vid like just show us how!

  • hi,Junker

i messed the grey things that accepts the disc and now the gears fall off,got an suggestions how to fix that?

  • @wiihaker If the gears inside the "disc insertion drive" part on the front fell out, I have a "disc insertion drive" video that should help put those back together.

  • I am missing the loader since it fell apart and I threw it out. Will i still be able to update my ps3 because you can't update if bluray broken? i dont think it is considered to be broken since everything else is still connected and working.

  • @gr33kb0i94 If you got rid of the entire drive, the system will fail to update because it updates the drive's firmware as part of an update.

  • gosh damn it mine does'nt look like that

  • Hey I hav a ps3 slim not accepting disc do I do the same for the slim or no plz help

  • junker i got a quick question i had a disk stuck in my blue ray drive and i used your realignment trick after that i plugged everything back in and the only thing the blue ray will do is turn the ps3 on it wont suck the disk in or eject it laser doesnt light up but it does jump a little when power is turned on and off and it wont spin any suggestions i have plugged the ribbon in about 80 times and it looks to be seated right and all the gold tips are on it it is a skinny ribbon in this ps3

  • iii

  • How do I put the thing that holds the motor and bluray light if i took it out.

  • you forgot to plug in the the conector on the left side of the drive i can see it in the video

  • hey i got a problem. i replaced my lens with a new one and its still not reading. WHATS THE PROBLEM?

  • for some reason i cant paste my video link, Just go to my profile and find the videos.

  • Comment removed

  • how do you test if the laser still works cuz mine wont read the games.

  • @junker15 hey you... is it possible to put one of those in my pc i want to play ps3 games without a ps3 and without those damn usless emulators is it possible you said the power connectors are like in a pc's but does it connect by ide or sata i dunno please tell me if you do i will subscribe and make all your videos 5 stars and rate thumbs up on them all and youll be my hero...you dont know how hard is is to find out this simple question

  • @gta4rulesass The connection interface for the drive is proprietary, so it can't be easily adapted to work with a PC. Even if it could, I'd imagine that the special firmware on the drive won't let it speak to the usual PC anyway.

  • @junker15 is there a way to get the bios or whatever its called to be compatable with the drive by like flashing the firmware or getting a bios file or something

  • @gta4rulesass Not that I know of, though it's hard to tell since Sony has been trying very hard to put their jailbreak genie back in the bottle. ;o)

  • @junker15 oh ok well if you have any ideas or opinions tell me because im working on a gaming pc with the graphic quality of the xbox 360 or slightly better same with ps3 and i already know i can get an emulator for xbox 360 games wich some of wich are avalible on pc and also be able to play ps3 games...ps can i use xbox live on pc somehow

  • @junker15 junker i got a quick question i had a disk stuck in my blue ray drive and i used your realignment trick after that i plugged everything back in and the only thing the blue ray will do is turn the ps3 on it wont suck the disk in or eject it laser doesnt light up but it does jump a little when power is turned on and off and it wont spin any suggestions i have plugged the ribbon in about 80 times and it looks to be seated right and all the gold tips are on it

  • thanks, it worked for me just fine

  • when i try to play my games like black ops it just doesn't load and with MW2 it says somethings up with my tropys

  • How did you fix yours on this video after it wouldnt eject. mine is doing the same thing, it willl take disc in but wont eject or spin. Thanks

  • i dont have the grey things on the disk mechanizer thing

  • Hi, i have a problem with my ps3 where the disc cant be drawn in like this video but when i try to shove the disc inside fully i can still eject the disc. is it a problem with the gear alignment ? i dont know what to do i've been watching videos and im not sure of what to do

  • @thok78 There's a chance that the switch that detects when the transport is fully raised is broken. (it faces the right arm and is not pressed when the transport is fully raised.) This is on the board with the two other switches that detect the disc being inserted.

  • your the creep

  • yo man. my playstation started to not load the game when i turned on my ps so i would have to take the game out then put it back in for it to load..well after awhile it would take longer and longer each time to load..and now it doesnt load at all..i hear it spinning tho..what should i do..this is a old 80gb fat ps3 from before 2007

  • I can't get my ps3 to take the disk at all and it makes this grinding noise. What say you to that?

  • Junker15 can you have a look at my recent video I uploaded on my channel and try give me an answer on hows to fix it if you can :( I'd appreciate it, thank you.

  • @sasuke000naruto That looks like your laser is on the way out. The laser is still somewhat working because the disc spins up, but it's probably dying.

  • @junker15 That's what I thought, thanks for your feedback Junker.

  • you're touching the ps3 with the black cover taken off, is this safe? can you get eletrocuted?

  • @sussex113 Even with the PS3 plugged in, it's fairly safe. All the dangerous voltages are contained inside the power supply.

  • LOL At 3:05

  • Get the power. NINTENDO POWER

  • hey the 2 thing where u touch at 2: 15...........i touch mine and it was loose and came off... i put it back in. is it supose to be easy to come off? i can also manually take it off by lifting up. or has it been broken without i notice?

  • hey junker15, my bluray drive from my ps3 power cable was ripped off from my motherboard(long story) so right now i just have a bluray drive without power. the other cable works fine, because the disk sensor works. so i was wondering if there is any other way to power the drive again? thanks

  • @ratedrsuperstar1992 If the mainboard end is busted and the drive end is OK, you can power the drive if you get a power supply that supplies both +5 and +12 (the power supply that comes with one of those IDE to USB hard drive converters is ideal for this), and then make a cable that connects it to the pins on the PS3 drive. It won't be the most elegant hack, but it will get the drive powered up again...

  • @junker15 what about a molex connector from atx power supply? i read that the yellow cable is a 12v the 2 blackones are ground and the red one is 5v....woud that possibly work or would it be to much comming from the atx power supply?

  • This video saved my ass. I was attempting to clean my blu ray laser when I accidentally knocked the bumpers and springs off the drive loader... and I couldn't figure out to save my life how they went back on. After finding this video, had the springs back on and the PS3 up and running perfectly again. Thanks!

  • My ps3 wont suck the discs in? i have had this problem for a few weeks and i have tried re booting it :\ any help please?

  • Thanks for the video Junker15 it's been a great help! If you pause the vid at 1:20 there are tabs laying down, in between the rubber band. Mine are standing straight up and I cannot get them to laydown. Do you have any suggestions about the 2 tabs?

  • there is a white plastic thing blocking my disc when i try to put it into the drive

  • @hopkinspro After you have reset the drive to make it no longer think there is a disc inside, if that piece still sticks up, you can push it to one side (one way will be easy, the other way will be hard; push it whichever way is easy) to get it to lie down again. If the plastic piece won't go down at all, the drive is probably not "ejected," so have a look at my "revised emergency eject" video for how to reset the drive.

  • i got a proplem with my blue ray drive... when i try to stick a cd in it dosent even react.... it simpley dosent do anything. can you somehow show me how the ps3 realizes when there's a cd going in?

  • I hate ps3 and xbox. Both are made by b*tchs that want to fleece you.... Funny thing is my sega genesis, and orginal nintendo still work. None of this YLOD of death BS. The worst part are the options sony gives you. It's their design error!!

  • I putt a disk into the drive but the drive doesnt do anything no spinning disk in the corner either

  • i put my ps3 back together and now my game is stuck in there and the eject button is not workin... can somebody help me out with this??

  • OH DUDE YOU ARE A LIFESAVER! I messed up my "disc loader" when trying to fiddle the drive to spin discs. Apparently I got one of thosa little springs off it's groove and this vid really helped me to locate the problem! I thought my drive was a goner so thanks a LOT!

  • so as long as the power cable is plugged in the disc should eject? or do both the power cable and ribbon cable on the bluray player have to be plugged in for the disc to eject?

  • @MrBballa2010 I believe you have to have the power and the data cables connected properly or else the drive will appear to be dead.

  • When I put a disk in it make's a weird noise and won't go in, what do I do?

  • @iVietboii816 It's probably an alignment issue. Try my "revised emergency eject" video for a quick rundown of what to check in regards to drive alignment.

  • If I am not getting any reading off the power connector (the 5V/2x Ground/12V) how can I fix this. Can I use some other type of power supply like the usb port or somthing to get this working

  • @Raven2260 There is no reason it won't work if you use one of those power supplies that comes with those USB to IDE/SATA hard drive adapters. Then it's just a matter of making an adapter to hook up to the power connector of the PS3 drive.

Otherwise, it looks like something on the mainboard went bad if everything else is working...

  • Your vid helped sooo much. Thank you.

  • Hi

I need to know the actual name of the 2 gray pieces that cover the disc inserters. And where I can purchase them. I can't complete my drive without them. Whoever had the PS3 before I got it did not replace them. The springs won't stay without them. Please help, Thanks

  • Question: the loading mecanism seems to be fragile, i think a blu-ray disk could be damaged by such a mécanism, plus fingerprints problems.

I dont like this mecanism, i prefer by far a drawer like all blu-ray players, i dont understand why SONY put it on his machine ....

Thanks for the video anyway !

  • Thx for showing the Springs and Gears all of that piece cause mine got fu..ed up :D

    Very nice video Max Rate!

  • I have the exact same problem at 3.20, can anyone PLEASE help me?!??!

  • @Muckyjosh1 See my "optical drive top" video for how to fix it

  • @junker15 Yeah thanks I realized right after watching this, great vid, thanks for the help man, worked like a charm :D

  • @Muckyjosh1 Me too lol

  • i got the same prob as skinnymyman, my drive is one of the newer ones (80 gb fatty) wich doesnt have an external/wired disc sensor as far as i can see, and the loading arms only gear on one side as opossed to the older version where both spun

all videos use the older version, but mine doesnt have a sensor that i can chek

  • man can u please make a video for this for ps3 slim I need to know how to put bak the disk drive

  • HELP!!! my gears came off and i dont know where to put them back please help!

  • Hey at the end of the video when u put the disc in and it just kinda got stuck and spun....what did u do to fix that? mine is doing that right now after reassembley

  • @rianchio23 I found out after I shot this video that I was putting the plastic top on incorrectly. See my "optical drive top" video for how to make sure this plastic top is installed right so that the drive always works.

  • please have someone talk for you.

other then that everything is great thanks

  • hey man my blu ray driver wont read the disc it still goes in perfect but it wont spin to

read the disc is it my blu ray laser i cleanded it and all wut i took it apart and cleanded it all butt it didnt do no better?????? wut u think

  • you are a life safer,.. holly shit is this loader crap finiky ,..I mean its not to complex ,.. so that is a sign of a good design i guess,..

  • I have a problem. When insert a disc all that happens is the gold metal piece on the right spins. There is no suction. Also you see the ribbon above the lens it doesnt connect to anything..there is no chip above the lens. Its a 60 gb ps3.

  • i have a similar problem but my ps3 wont take in the disc at all.. i think because i might of accidentally removed a flat thin wire from the bottom drive

  • could i buy a new blue ray drive and swap the chip under the blue ray drive with the replacement drive and have it still work?

  • @ColtsFan4life88 Only if you get the same type of mechanism that came with your PS3. You will have to swap the entire controller board from the bottom of your old drive to the new one.

  • @junker15 damn that means id have to find the mgs4 ps3 blue ray drive.. if anybody has a spare 80 gig partially backwards compatible drive ill buy it for 100 bucks

  • I recently changed the lense but now when i turn on the ps3 the blue light at the front flashes and it tries to eject a disc even tho there no disc inside. i've fiddled around wit the alignment but still no joy. any ideas?

  • @Skinnymyman disc sensor is either disconnected or broken. It's probably a broken wire between the controller board and the sensor on top.

  • is it possible to put a faster drive in my ps3 slim ??

  • @JuggernautRecords No, you are pretty much stuck with the drive that Sony supplied. They lock the controller board to the PS3.

  • whatever happened to the blu ray drive at 3:08 thats what mine is currently doing what did you have to do to correct it? The only difference being my eject button won't work either.

  • @GodFenrir That failure is definitely the plastic top of the drive being aligned incorrectly. This video was from before I figured out how to make it always work when I reassembled the drive. My "Optical drive top" video will explain how to correctly place the top so it always works.

  • this is the drive i have(the one without the sensor). i have the problem with the disk being sucked in. i know the motor works because i tested it with an independent power supply. you think its the switch on the little circuit board thats to the right?

  • @ardur Check your data cable (the big cable on the bottom). If this cable is not connected right, the drive will appear to do nothing.

  • @junker15 ahh i see it now there are a bunch of missing gold prongs on the ribbon that are missing. this prob is the problem. after i get a new one i'll tell you. thanks for the reply btw i greatly appreciate it.

  • u messed up!!!!!

  • Ok I had to replace the laser on my ps3 and when I put it back together, I find out that the motor on the drive is jammed when I looked at the gears. Any fixes?

  • @PMaN23456 check out my "revised emergency eject" video, specifically the later part where I go over resetting the loader parts. That should get things set up right.

  • @junker15 alright thank you, also where one of the ribbons, the securer for the ribbon snapped off, is there a way to put it back on or do i need to order a new chip

  • HELP. ps3 would read bluray disc but freeze 2 second after play. i took apart drive to clean lens. now the RIGHT LOADER SPINS IN REVERSE causing the disc to spin instead of being pulled into the drive.

    PLEASE SEND MESSAGE TO CHADILLACONWEED

  • help,

took apart drive loader. now its back together but disc wont inject, instead the loaders spin in same direction causing disc to spin instead of being pulled in.

  • Brother, since a while ago I've been getting YLODs.

I dont have a warranty, so I sent it to a technician and he said all pieces are perfect, the only problem are with the gears.

He doesnt know what to do, so I'm getting it back.

He got the game to work by loading the bluray manually.

Did you get YLODs when the blu-ray couldn't be loaded?

If so this might help me a shit ton!

    Cheers.

  • there are 2 prong sticking up and i cant get them down. what do i do?

  • @pauliedapunisher Make sure the drive is in its "ejected" position (use my "revised emergency eject" video for this). The two prongs should then not be sticking up anymore. If you align things and see that these prongs are still up, they can be pushed back down (you shouldn't have to force it; they should go down easily).

  • i have a problem my ps3 ribbon clip that holds down the br drivve cable its broken could anybody help me with this!!!!

  • ok i have been going over your video's for about 2 days now and i keep trying to find out why mine has no power or it seems that nothing happens when i try to put in a disc ps3 won't make any noise. i followed your step on alignment and made sure everything is in the right spot.

For some reason you have more parts to yours than i have to mine. I have an 80g cechl01 does that have anything to do with why it's not working maybe a different model number please help?

  • @raiderJ3 Unfortunately, I haven't seen the inside of a new drive, so I won't be of much help there. I do know that I can reproduce the "nothing happens" symptom on my drive by disconnecting the data cable from the bottom, so that may be worth a shot to look at on yours.

  • Well, I plugged in a 12/5 molex connection from an ATX PSU.

When I do that, it actually starts up the little motor, runs the gears, and attempts to load the disk. First time I have seen it actually move.

Hasn't started spinning up yet., or making lasers like in your "clear CD" test, but its doing something at least.

Real question is, why is the power connector spitting out +5/+3.3 from the mainboard?

Oh, and I get 5/0 w/ nothing plugged in, and 5/2.4 w/ an IDE DVD. Bizarre.

  • @DarthMeier2 The mainboard should be putting +5 out on the rightmost pin and +12 on the leftmost pin. The two in the middle are grounds.

This means that either you've got a bad power supply or the mainboard is somehow faulty to be giving out such weird voltages.

  • My problem is the ps3 is not pulling in the disc. Alignment is good for the gears inside.

  • MY problem is the right side plastic piece that goes up and sets into place. it does not "catch:" where its supposed to set in at, causing it to make a loud rubbing noise as the disc is spinning. Any indeas on how to get this piece to come up and sit where its supposed to while disc is spinning

  • @djtallt You probably want to see my "revised emergency eject" video. It covers the quick way to make sure everything is aligned.

  • Its 5/12v?

On mine, I'm getting 5v, and sometimes 3v on the other one.

You did the test w/ the drive plugged in, or on the pins themselves?

Note: drive is not taking in disks, or doing much of anything for that matter.

Note: my unit is slightly different - uses BMD-031 board.

  • my disc wont come out? can u please send me a priv message and tell me wat to do

  • @rkmx5 see my "revised emergency eject" video for how to get the disc out and get the loader fixed

  • my plastic gears has fallen out i cannot find out where they belong what should i do

  • Could I put a blu-ray drive from a 80gig ps3 into an original 60gig

  • @edo11111111 You will have to keep your original controller board, so the donor drive would have to come from the CECHE model (the 80GB version that uses the old laser)

  • I have this same problem

  • that arm thing that pulls in the disk broke what do i do. i need my ps3

  • hey junker15, u know those grey little arms ur pointing at 1:20 in the video? well i was reassembling my blu ray drive and those fell off. i re attached them and when i reassemble my whole ps3 back together. it makes a rattle sound (i can hear it jolting up and down) is this normal? how do i secure those arms so they wont move

  • i followed video instuction how to get to and clean blu ray head...but after reassembly, it wont take disks? any idea?

  • It is probably misaligned in the top. See my "optical drive top" video for how to fix this.

  • awesome....got it accepting and ejecting discs again...BUT, NOW im back to original issue, blu ray not reading the discs...any ideas?

  • did u clean the lens?

  • yes, and was able to play one game of tiger woods...now won't read any game or movie

  • Sounds like your laser is going bad on you. If it hasn't completely died, it's probably having problems focusing when switching to blu-ray.

  • that sounds consistent with waht im reading..any idea where to pick one up...also my laser has what looks like 2 lenses not one like your videos..

  • @junker15 hey thanks for input so far. i got the new kem410 laser in last night...now the blu ray laser doesnt spin...anyway to check that motor is ok?...sure seemed like it was the laser issue. while torn down what is best way to test before putting back together...i did put it all together plugged into tv disc went in..but nothing, no turning or spinning...???help again please

  • i cant get my ps3 to take the disc. i've recently had the YLOD i repaired it using gilksy's guide and was wondering if it's related to the YLOD because it hasn't done that b4

  • If you have never disassembled the drive, the first thing to do is check all your connections. If you have taken the drive apart, things may be misaligned. See my "revised emergency eject" video for how to quickly check and fix the most common issues.

  • @junker15, Disc goes in fine and i think the laser is ok but the disc just wont spin once it sits in. Will i have to buy a new laser & mech or do you have another solution please?Oh and i have the kem-410aca if that makes any difference to ya. r.s.v.p.

  • It's probably the laser that's bad if that drive is anything like the older drive I have here. Unfortunately, my new machine still works and has a warranty for another 2 years, so I can't see for myself...

  • i cant get those springs ontoo where they goto go im not sure how to

  • It takes some patience and a steady hand. The springs are thin and weak, and they will just pop off if the slightest thing is wrong. Your best bet is to use a small screwdriver, or some good tweezers if you've got them (but be careful not to bend anything).

  • nice video but you missed out one spring which is my problem, the small arms on the top wont feed the disc in all the way, and in the middle is a rather big spring which I have no idea where it goes :S PLZ HELP !!!

  • when i turn my ps3 on the blue light stays off and it doesnt acsept disks or read them, can someone tell me whats wrong????

  • hey i got the same problem like you do in the end, its keep spinning for to long, watch my vid on my profile, just got one about ps3 and the thicking noise, i just fix the clicking but now its spinning to long and not reading?? how did you fixed this.?

  • Problem with my ps3: it wont take any discs! Whenever I insert a disc, the PS3 wont grab it, however if I shove it in far enough, the PS3 turns on. This happened to me after swapping out the lasers. If I force the disc in and align it over the hole, I can get it out by using the emergency eject. The infared disc sensor on top doesnt seem to light up even through a camera but even when I try the remote control trick, it doesnt register. Is this alignment prob or sensor prob? Please help Junker15!

  • Something's probably up with that disc sensor. This is especially the case if the drive runs for a bit when you power the PS3 on. Even though the disc sensor light is IR, it can't be seen with the usual digital camera.

The most common disc sensor problem is that the wires break. Mine broke off inside the insulation and I had to reattach the wire to get it working again.

  • Thanks. I probably going to just buy a new diode/cable set from ebay for like $10. I hope it works!

  • @junker15 It seems that the diode was only one part of the problem. I replaced it and the sensor works fine, but for some reason the drive is still not sucking the disk in. All gears are functioning correctly because I can use the emergency eject to test everything. Ill post a video tomorrow about what's wrong. I hope you can spend a couple of minutes and watch it. Im really desperate.

  • my ps3 wont eject my game , it will load but when i press the eject button it starts making this bad clicking noise, i need help people!

  • I literally spent 45 minutes replacing one of those damn springs. NEVER touch that part of the drive if you don't have to because if one comes off, you're fucked.

  • Those springs are a pain in the ass, and they're hard to find if you drop them, too. Obviously Sony was in a bad mood when they designed this drive. :o)

  • hey PSP mine was doing that and it was bad laser

  • Hey man! Yo I need help I just got a new ps3 lens and it's reading DVDs but not my games is the lens faulty???

  • I fixed my PS3 2 weeks ago and everything has been working fine. However yesterday I watched a movie and played some games as and it worked fine as well. However this morning when I went to play it, the game didn't load. So I opened it up and took the lid off of the Blu Ray drive. Then put a game in it to test it. I noticed that the game spins and stops repeadetly for about a minute then stops until you go to load it again. And it repeats itself again.

  • hi i got a problem and wondered if you can help me please...well i had my ps3 without the top cover case and it fell down in such a way in which the part where you plug the blue ray dribe to get its power came off...i soldered it back to the board and it got power but now the blue ray wont reconise any disk...it fell pretty hard..do you think its the fall or the power? and what should you recomend i do? plez reply thanks

  • hi junker im have the same problem that u had, disc goes in an tries to spin but it makes a grinding sound, it spins but not fast enough to read it, may not eject either

  • My issue was caused by the plastic top being misaligned. My "optical drive top" video shows how to put the top on so it always works.

  • he's got me worried if the fixer couldn't even fix the problem. I might have to pay $167. I can go buy another one with that.

  • around the 1:00 marker the big black device this video revolves around, i took off of my bluray and three lil white gears, (circles with the teeth surrounding it) fell outta the bottom basically causing the same problem u had in the video. where do they go!! my psn id is Encryptid plz help!

  • It took me 3 days of watching all of your videos to get my laser replaced and my drive relign. thanks!!!!! for all your help!!!! I hope this NEVERRRRR happens again!!!!!!!!!!!
