Karl, this is absolutely my favorite song of yours. Carnival's another one, but I am so memerized by that line, "I can't remember who I killed, it could have been me." That falls under "lines I wish I had written." That line says so much about self awareness to me. The production on this is amazing too. I visit this song often, and I thought I'd leave a comment this time. :) Janet
@onewomanandsomesongs Hey Janet, That's great feedback, thanks. You know, songs are like dreams, they're not real - but there's always something in real life that inspires them. But I'm trying to get through life with never having killed anyone - especially myself :-) Hey, you take care good friend - Karl
@nessyvt Thanks Vanessa for the kind words. I really like the beaches on the east coast. The water on the west coast is always freezing. My goal is to get to the beach this summer.
Now this has the really clean balanced sound I am looking to achieve in my own stuff. Really intrigueing & a nice mix of instrumentals & voice! Great song!
@experimentalrock Thanks my friend, that's a very thoughtful compliment, coming from another musician. The truthful answer to your question is no. That's a cool looking studio you have in your videos. I envy everyone that lives in Hawaii.
There's a nice ambiance to the track, I always like music that makes the silence after they've finished louder. I always think it's because my ears are missing the song =)
Thanks Vanessa. I tried to create the ambiance. In the 2nd part of the song there is just the sounds of guitar & organ. Even though it was kind of strange, I liked it so i decided not to add anything else. Sometimes less is more. Keep rockin in Malaysia. - Karl
WOW!! Thanks, my friend! You very good musician!! You very great guitarist! Excellent video and music and very good performance! Very well made song, and very nice voice!!!
Mary, thank you so much for your kind words. I really appreciate your comments. There are several guitar lines going on in a fugue-ish way and the stereo separation is high which creates the effect I think youre referring to. The technical term is "luck" if it works (and other terms if it doesn't). You have a fabulous original sound of your own that continually amazes me. Thanks again my friend, Karl
I didn't see this one for some reason, Karl. I am glad to catch up with it now, it is great. You have a very unique and very recognizable style both in sound and lyrics. The organ was a excellent compliment to the guitar synth sound. Your compelling lyrics really set you apart from the ordinary on YT. -Ron
Ron, Youre a fine musician and I value and appreciate your comments. Glad you liked the instrument sounds. The organ tones are very square wave-ish. with some syrupy vibrato added, like portable organs sounded in the early days of transistors when I was a kid. Again, thanks for the kind words. Karl
Thanks Bruce. I got a new mic for this -in the vain hope it would do my voice some good. If you ever get the time I've got a song I would love to get your guitar licks on.
Another great song Karl. Sort of sounds like a sequel to I Need Your Money. Hard to think of many people around who can layer midi sounds and use no other instruments that achieve an effect this striking.
Thanks Curtis. I used a lot of the same techniques in both songs. Hopefully, Im refining them along the way. I opted to make this one sparse, only a few tracks which made it a lot easier. I really appreciate your kind words. Karl
Thanks beyond measure. I was a big fan of Court of the Crimson King and fascinated with their Mellotron. As musicians, I think we should never stop experimenting, even if it's in subtle ways. I think there's risk-taking in all art. Thanks again, Joe, for the encouragement.
Karl, this is just awesome! I love your haunting music and lyrics...lines like 'I can't remember who I killed, it may have been me" are just brilliant. They fall under the category of "lines I wish I had written."
This one's going on my favorite's list.
BTW, I owe some posts and channel visits to folks...I have a crazy day here, hehe, but I will answer soon. :)
