Vince originally said that the WBF would be real bodybuilding, not pro bodybuilding (in the sense of pro wrestling). But, all of Vince's "BodyStars" ended up having characters and gimmicks, just like the pro wrestling. Except, the bodybuilding actually was real competition (not scripted/fixed results), just loaded with a lot of trademark storyline drama BS that you wouldn't get from any normal sports league.

Say what you will, but the WBF did introduce some things that the world of bodybuilding could really stand to pick back up. The theatrics didn't hurt anything and in my opinion helped the sport of bodybuilding. I've often said that bodybuilding needed to have more showmanship. For instance, the obvious chance for sex appeal, especially amongst female participants in the different categories today, is off the charts and none of the promoters opt to take advantage of that with costumes or the like

I remember just wanting to look like Gary Strydom did in this WBF competition back when i was 18! His delts were amazing and so was the sweep on his pecs. Very rare that someone has both. Great taper as well, with such a tight waist and narrow hips, yet he had fantastic legs as well. Rare to have both again. His arms were massive, but he had no biceps peak. That and a 'weak' back were his only flaws. If it wasn't for them he'd have been the best around at the time. He'd have had it all.
