She sang her last Violetta in Dallas, November 1958. Earlier that year there was the Met, Lisbon, and Covent Garden. Her best by far, really sublime, is the 1955 Scala performance with di Stefano and Giulini. Listen to the Act 2 duet with Germont (Bastianini), tremendous! She remains incomparable as Violetta, and although there have been many worthy exponents of the role in the last 50 years (Scotto, Freni, Caballe, Gheorghiu et al) NO ONE comes close. Sutherland? You've got to be kidding me.
GOOD NEWS dear Callas fans!!!! Striker capitulates! The automated production of feces is over. He's a nervous wreck because the great Filaredo gang has destroyed the white knight on his black donkey. Striker, you are alone in a hopeless plight!Go home and lick your wounds!!! Hoohooohaahaahhhaaa..... what a wonderful world...!!! Striker is only a picture of misery.....LOL

Maria Callas' UNPOLISHED and HARSH voice definitively was not beautiful, and after her famous tapeworm-diet her voice was the worst (she damaged her vocal cords). Her notorious vocal decline began when she had only 39 yold.
whoever to listen Callas' voice FOR FIRST TIME, says that it's INSUPPORTABLE.... and the first impression is the true one!.

Callas is *the* Violetta for all time.
The guy got it wrong, though -- the part he's humming is 'addio del passato,' not 'ah fors'e lui.'

HORRIBLE: (Callas on La TRaviata)
Callas never knew how to say, she had no the "parlato", she has no italian ascent.
Her spoken words "in me rinasce...ma io.." are so horrible. Not even a conservatory student is so bad.

Traviata died for ever with Callas on September 16th 1977. Nobody will ever sing that way again ... ever.

God bless you, I dont think that anyone could have put it better! It is all imitation since she died, I am still looking for the truth, though!

No that way maybe not!! But there could be someone who sings it better but differently!!!
