She sang her last Violetta in Dallas, November 1958. Earlier that year there was the Met, Lisbon, and Covent Garden. Her best by far, really sublime, is the 1955 Scala performance with di Stefano and Giulini. Listen to the Act 2 duet with Germont (Bastianini), tremendous! She remains incomparable as Violetta, and although there have been many worthy exponents of the role in the last 50 years (Scotto, Freni, Caballe, Gheorghiu et al) NO ONE comes close. Sutherland? You've got to be kidding me.

Callas dijo que queria cantar esta ultima nota como eso porque pensaba que Violetta (La Traviata) era al punto de morir y que cuando estas asi cerca de la muerte, no puedes cantar notas perfectas y muy altas.

Callas queria que su Traviata fuera mas convincente aunque no respetaba las instrucciones de Verdi en cuanto a esta ultima nota :)

puede que su diccion no sea lo mejor del mundo, pero todos sabemos que cantando opera, la letra muchas veces se pierde...lo que no se pierde es el color de su voz, su interpretación y la música...es la mejor, 30 años despues de su muerte aun te puede poner los pelos de punta cuando la escuchas...

Para gspichuni2, el talento de Callas eclipsa a todas las cantantes de su época, nadie como ella ha sido capaz de llenar el escenario con su voz y su presencia artística.Violeta en la Callas es Callas en Violeta, eso no se puede comparar y además dirigida por el genial Luccino Visconti , cuánto talento! por Dios! Como dijo alguna vez el gran Karajan de ella: "si no hubiera nacido hubiéramos tenido que inventarla".

Porque estoy seguro que si hubieses visto alguna representación, no pensarías lo mismo.

Además hay que tener en cuenta, la calidad del sonido (tan solo por su antigüedad)...
