Actually it's very common in microphones that aren't directly plugged in to cut out at times, you can see that his mic clearly doesn't have a cable, and if you've ever been to any theatre productions where they use radio mic's chances are you'd have noticed that at least one of them wouldn't work, it happens all the time. :)

Being a live sound engineer for a good number of years, I'm quite aware of the concept, thanks. Talk about patronising. His mic was not turned on in the FOH but you can hear the spill from the monitors before it's faded in. That wouldn't happen if the mic had cut out due to a problem with the receiver. I'd think about what you know and don't know if I were you.
