Only thing I have against this group is the girl Alohe who goes by Rami now. Sometimes she lack that spark, that her brothers had. She seem to not want to be on stage sometimes. Someone told me about one of her performances. She didn't fair so well, she was boo-ed at the Apollo and left the stage in tears. She was not as secure at the time as her brothers were "onstage," She supposedly has bipolar which may explain her behavior.
The reason The Stairsteps didn't make it mainstream-wise was because of lack of publicity and promotion. They never appeared on the cover of Jet, Ebony, or Rolling Stone. Never appeared on Ed Sullivan, American Bandstand, etc. In the 70s they made some changes musically and personally that hurt them. They should have went with Motown, turning down Motown was their biggest mistake. Motown would have helped them cross-over. There probably wouldn't have been a J5, if The Steps went with Motown.
The suits are worn in the youtube video of Dick Clark's "Where The Action Is" tv show. Another one is from the tv show "To Tell The Truth", where you can see all the Burkes, even Momma Stairstep, Papa Stairstep on the panel and Cubie as a baby.
Hes still in the induced coma to let his head injuries heal. However, they are saying he is in the same state as his brother Terry that went into a coma from head injuries and never came out of it. There is always hope and right now Cubie and the Burke family need prayers sent their way.
This is not the Stairsteps at their best. Would someone PLEASE find a video of them when they were a bit younger, wore suits and could outdance ANYBODY! Including The J5 AND The Temptations!!!
