The Baltic Dry Index is not traded as a futures contract or ETF on any exchange. Its usefulness is as an indicator that confirms the strength of global trade. There are shipping ETFs that track shipping companies that somewhat trend with the BDI but not exactly as some shipping companies are debt laden and some are well run and some are not. Bigcharts does not have a symbol for The Baltic Dry Index as BDI, .$BDI and .BDI and BDIY do not work as symbols for this index on Bigcharts and there is no alphabetical listing for it. Bloomberg charts and quotes are available for The Baltic Dry Index with the symbol BDIY. Do you know of a North American stock exchange that lists a symbol for The Baltic Dry Index?
