I totally got the ending of this anime - you got it, man. In the last ep, the images in his mind before he died were of when he was just another kid in high school before he found Death Note. It's like he realized the sheer waste of his life. His saw his youth, innocence, and soul wasted. He died defeated, godless, alone, pitifully, and loveless. Pretty powerful stuff!
