REMEMBER SEEING THEM ON TOP OF THE POPS (AUTUMN OF 1967) PERFORMING THIS SONG WHICH HELPED TO LAUNCH THEIR VERY SUCCESSFUL CAREER. WAS ONE OF MY FAVOURITE SONGS OF THEIRS SEEING THEM AS A FIVESOME FOUND MYSELF WONDERING WHAT BECAME OF COLIN PETERSON AND VINCE MALONEY (AFTER LEAVING THE BAND) RECENTLY FOUND OUT THAT EX-AMEN CORNER MEMBER BLUE WEAVER WAS IN THEIR BACKINB BAND
i might only be 15 but nothing will wreck my love for this song my dad used to take me swimming every Thursday and put their CD on Unfortunately he passed away when i was 6 in my arms but i'll never forget this song :) <3
Is this song about the "Great Northeast Blackout in November of 1965" when the Bee Gees were about to open for another Band at the Boston Garden. The Lyrics..."The Light all went down in Massachusetts..." seem to indicate them or another song writer sent it their way...Dan O'Niallain
@oldiesbutgoodies67 No it is not..it was not written until 1967 and the Bee Gees did not tour the USA in 1965, in fact they were still in Australia in 1965
I really love Robin's voice, it's one of a kind. The others had/have great voices too, which made them sound awesome together, again one of a kind. I didn't realise until recently that Robin must only have been about 18 when this was recorded. Wow.
@BRIAN928S One of those songs I used to hear from my Sis's room too...it was Cream and Jethro Tull from my older Bro's room, and The Bee Gees and Fleetwood Mac from Sis's-quite an education
@GalaxyHorse Always loved 'Teacher' from Tull. In college I did some shrooms once and that song was like heaven, funny I remember it clearly. Mac had some seriously great tunes also, both melodramatic and uplifting (Say You Love Me) Lot of those were listened to while stoned. Don't do drugs anymore.
Awww, this song brings back memories. I wish I had been old enough to go to concerts when these guys were big in the 60s. I wished I had been able to see all the great 60s bands back then, especially the British invasion. Maybe someday they do some shows again.
This was the first ever 45 record I ever bought, Edinburgh 1967. It's still one of my all time favourites, and I love love love Robin Gibb, especially as he's better looking now he's older! Wish I could say the same for me.
Ironically, this came out just as the Red Sox were winning their "Impossible Dream" Pennant. Let's hope the Yankees make the lights go out in Massachusetts tonight!
I used to detest the Bee Gees, but now I see why they became so popular. This guy has such a beautiful voice. I'd be a happy man if I could write a song even half as good as this. Forty-odd years on and it still sounds great. Brilliant!
I was 14 when I first heard this song and saw my husband to be for the first time and fell in love instantly so have never ever forgotten this song. The glorious 70s and wonderful Bee Gees still in the UK at that time.
This is the video that did me in. I was 8. It was 1978. I had recently discovered the Bee Gees. This video came on TV...I think it was an advertisement to buy a compilation LP. When my mom told me it was them I didn't believe it. When I saw it again..I knew. One look at Robin's smile and I was a goner. Still am. His smile and voice gives me the shivers the same now as it did all those years ago. I love ya Rob!
I was in a Us Naval Hosp. at Nas Jaxsonville. They were sending me home to Boston. I had heard this song for the first time in the music room. I quickly fell in love with it., It shurley helped geeting me through those hard and painfull months . I had always wanted to thank all the Bee Gees both on her in Earth and of course to the departed ones in Heaven ! thank you all again from Frankie in Boston

@Steve915 alright ...if you say so! "beauty is in the eyes of the beholder!"... by the same token... preference of music/songs is in THE EARS of the beholder!!! heehee...Cheers!
Little known, they started in the 50's as children. The name and original sound created long before the British invasion after the Beatles arrived. I thought their name, as most groups from back then, was patterned after the Beatles, the sound too. I was shocked to learn, it was the other way around. Master composers, at a young age, and still.
@opticstar2000 you asked is that the drummer from Amen Corner.......no - drummer is Colin Peterson (Petersen?) He was a child actor in Australia prior to being a Bee Gee. He and the other non-Gibb brother (Vince ?) left about the same time, back when the music was still good.....
@musicluva13579 nope.... its Robin... Maurice didnt get to do lead until closer than clos and man in the middle... and that was waaaaaaaaaaaaaayyyyy after this
In a certain light Robin looks like a young version of Freddie Mercury, know what I mean? Hey check out the song in the song list from the MGM concert 1997 it's unreal so good.

This band is timeless and hope they go on and on and never stop.
The brothers Gibb were always so special to me, songs like this made other bands seem less than average. There is no other band that even comes close to the Bee Gees in my opinion, past or present.

Very multi-talented too. Even at the height of the disco era, Barry Gibb recorded Rest Your Love on Me which is a country song, a beautiful song which Conway Twitty sang to it too.
Cracks me up that only once in the song did they actually pronounce Massachusetts
correctly.
