  • Love the music and memories of this video....Can't get the sand out of the shoes once you have lived in ROCKAWAY !!

  • @BETTYSTILES

    You Got That Right Betty!

  • I lived in Belle Harbor from 1977 to 1984. Back then, Marjorie Grassini was the most beautiful girl in P.S. 114.

  • Wow ... what a memory for you!

  • I was born in Rockaway. I was born in 1983, though. It's always good to see old film footage of your neighborhood from before you were born.

  • I agree with you how it's nice to see the place before one was born. I'm glad you enjoyed the video.

  • Hey I'm glad you enjoyed it and I agree with you. I always enjoy watching a video about my town before I was around.

  • Who's performing "Rockaway Beach" ?

Love that soul sound. Like Southside Johnny and Stax records.

    Beach 120 St. BCHS

  • The performers are General Johnson from the group "Chairman of the Board" along with Joey Ramone of "The Ramones"

  • so true on how its changed. work for a L.I. based company and went out there to take a peak and was pretty shocked. very depressing. but the memories will never go away.

  • You're right ... They may take away our town but they'll never take away our memories!

  • I actually started going to Rockaway in 1977. My family would rent a house on 115th every year. I really do have great memories of Rockaway. I cant believe I did not mention Playland! Oh, the best of times. I recently went down to Rockaway and it has changed. The house we used to rent is now a SRO (Single Room Occupancy) hotel. Sad!

  • Yes, there was no mention of playland in this video. However, I am pulling out all my films and photos and it will be highlighted in my next video. As for Rockaway back then, it will never be the same but it will hold a special place in the hearts of many.

  • @scoobytom65

    Yes .. it is Tommy!

  • Thank you very much. I appreciate it.

  • Do you have any footage of the 70's on B116th Street? They used to have a penny arcade, the sandbar, a little ice cream place next to the penny arcade where the had a plastic black and white ice cream cone hanging out the window. Do you have video of Tiberio's where they had the globe lights? They were beautiful lights. What memories of the 70's!

  • How I remember those places too well. If I come across any footage of Tiberios (great food) & sand bar, I will put it up.

    Tony

  • Hey Rock gal, did you live around the Co-op's, Bell Harbor? I was there in the 70's as well, 8600 shore front pkwy. went to PS183 and JHS180. Moved to Fort Lauderdale in 75 but remember alot of great friends like it was yesterday.

  • The sandbar is still there!

  • As of 2006 the Sand Bar was still there.

    Tony

  • Its owned by Chinese people now!But its still there!

  • Flickering for effect? Butchering of the Ramones' classic song "Rockaway Beach"? FAIL.

Could have been interesting trip down memory lane...instead it was headache-inducing trip to the Tylenol bottle. Oy!

  • Nice video, but how bout putting that file through a Video editing program? The flickering is setting off my fits-
