  • Wow! Im very impressed how he forumlated his words and illustrated what he meant with his hands!

  • The Girl with the CHAVVY Tattoo

  • Film of the year, not seen the original or read the book (will do at least 1 in time). However its the first Fincher film i didn't get bored with

  • @RhodesidesReviews

He's not talking about the Fincher-Version here, he talks about the original one.

  • @TheTruggsess I know thats why i said havent seen the original

  • @RhodesidesReviews

But you've started with "Film of the year", so I thought you were talking about the movie that has been talked about in the review ;-)

However, good choise to call Finchers version "film of the year". It's in my Top10 as well.

  • Watched it at my friend's house, quite late at night. My friend fell asleep just before it began and woke up in the middle of the rape scene. Suffice to say, she was quite traumatised and made me restart it so she could get the context. I loved it, and in the end, so did she, but it is difficult to watch, particularly with other people.

I've heard Rooney Mara is very good in the remake, but I still feel there was no need for it and I don't have any urge to watch it when the original is so good.

  • I have the trilogy DVDs still under wraps, but I won't touch it. Looks very bad. Despite all the rave reviews. I am fascinated by the phenomenon as a whole, though.

  • @alleygh0st I don't think you could fairly describe the films as "bad." They're not for everyone, but they're not bad films. I watched the first one on a whim knowing nothing about it and got an adrenaline high I enjoyed it so much. But then I had no hype, no rave reviews and no expectations.

My advice is to watch the first one with an open-mind, don't expect anything life changing, and enjoy a decent thriller. If you don't like Lisbeth at the end there's no point watching the rest.

  • I agree with him. The film was on my "to watch" list for a long time and when i finally got to it i really liked it until the point when these scenes arrived. I had to stop watching cause it made me feel really bad to the point when i thought i was gonna throw up. It's a really well made movie but for me it was to difficult to watch....

  • @originalperloocko I agree with you. I just saw this movie and I loved the movie up to the terrible rape scene. It was probably the most shocking piece of film I have ever seen. However, i thought that it was good at showing how terrible the "act" was and it made me feel more emotion towards the character.

  • This film was made by Interpol

  • Well the reason this 'movie' may have felt odd to some viewers in the way it changed so much during it's running time as is mentioned in the first 17 seconds of this video was because it was originally a TV series shown in 3 or 4 different parts I think on Swedish TV.As were all The Girl movies.

  • @springsteenrules How does the film do the book justice? They completely changed Mikael's character!!!!!!!!

I personally am looking forwards to the fincher versions, as anything would be better than the Swedish ones (BTW I am Swedish, so the problem wasn't the subtitles!)

  • When I saw this movie, it was unbelievable and something that made me feel a bit uneasy about myself was that when the rapists and murders meet there fate and they were begging for there life’s I had no sympathy. That frightened me, in this dark movie.

Another point is that Peter Haber who plays Martin Wanger is nationally more known as the police inspector Martin Beck and as a comedic actor

(Sunes Sommar, Tomten är fat till alla barn).

  • One of the best films I've ever seen, totally gripping and long an winding.. don't even try and watch it if your thick/illiterate/or under 18 10/10 and a bit sick in parts.

  • Heja sverige :D!

  • I only usually listen to this guy on the radio, but he likes to talk with his hands doesn't he...

  • I like (as Dr Mark repeatedly points out in various reviews) how the British rating system is doing a good job these days and actually seems to employ people who "get" movies, much unlike MPAA. This film has fairly plentiful amount of rape in it, but it has a point and has implications with regards to plot and characters as opposed to exploitation. It's cool that the British film censors understand it.

  • @notsukutsu

Yeah i agree, though how the BBFC work is that there are always 2 people watching, and rating a film at 1 point. So that you dont get those dodgy decisions that a film like say Dark Knight isnt given a 15 cert.

  • There's a problem with the bbfc's criteria of "eroticism of sexual violence" ...the problem being the uncomfortable fact of sexual violence being highly erotic

  • @theMAXILOPEZpsycho The sexual content in that film is not erotic if you're not a rapist or sadistic.

  • @notblondeswede Well i'm not a rapist but I found the rape scene in Irreversible erotic.

  • @redplague Perhaps you are into S/M, but it's still sick to like realistic rape scenes.

  • Am I the only one who thought this film was just really fucking banal? The characterisation was first year psychology textbook bullshit, the plot was that of an average crime thriller masquerading as art, the storytelling was clumsy and patronising, theme-wise it had fuck all to say for itself, and the style was indistinguishable from an American film.

Really don't get what people see in this film.

  • @Thisnameistaken11 ...."Am I the only one who thought this film was just really fucking banal?"

    Yeah...you're the only one.

  • @Thisnameistaken11 read the book

  • @Alastairjack123 I intend to, but I'm not holding my breath. The whole franchise just seems kind of trashy.

  • agree with Mark.

  • I absolutely loved this film, saw it only last night and i was truly amazed how good it was.

  • love the hand gesture for forty years ago!

  • @MrCrassuswild because it makes such a difference on the radio

  • This book was utterly repulsive. Masquerading as a polemic against violence against women while in reality being a gratuitous, prurient festival of sexual abuse.

  • Watched it at the weekend. Don't believe the hype, it's quite possibly the most vile misogynistic nihilistic contrived piece of crap i've ever seen. After all the original manuscript was called 'Men who hate women'. It's also unfeasibly long at a little under two and three quarter hours. Dreadful stuff

  • I haven't seen the film because I thought the book was overrated nonsense. 500 pages of clunky exposition, ludicrous twists and turns, and characters who are nothing more than two-dimensional fantasies from the mind of the author. Does the movie improve upon it in any way?

  • just seen it...great movie....marks review is good and if the comment below is right and they are making american version of this movie it better be light years better because this movie is not of low quality or bad acting...

  • i'm reading this book rite now.... it's brill

  • @EcoTriGem

    Me too!

  • We had a guy taking pictures at my work last week for the Hollywood version, in the "real" movie the opening scens takes plays there. I still think it's lame to make a new american one.

  • @xxxted78 I think Fincher and co. are going to blow the Swedish versions out of the water. Anyone who's seen Seven will agree. Larsson borrows more than a little from him. Also, Noomi's overrated, she just seems cartoony in the current trilogy. Rooney Mara's version is much more grounded.

  • @xxxted78 I can't stand remakes, but David Fincher is directing it, so I have hope.

  • @xxxted78 David Fincher will own it

  • @xxxted78 well come on, its a different take on the book. not a direct remake of the other movie, like let me in/let the right one in. so i sort of understand it.

  • @xxxted78 i think its necessary when the original could have been improved and David Fincher did that. The original was like a TV movie and David Fincher made it cinematic and closer adaption to the book.

  • I personally think the first movie was the best. When I watched the following two, I was disappointed becuase I expected them to be as good as the first.

  • I saw this yesterday - the 'sexual violent' scenes are really brutal, but not graphic in the sense that you see genitals, if you get my meaning.

It does very much feel like Part 1 as Mark said, but it is interesting if overlong.

  • There are three parts.

  • Dubbing for live action is unnecessary... It's distracting when it doesn't sync with the lips and it's demeaning to the actors and the sound editors.

In animation it can be different but it depends on the situation.

  • I saw this film in Sweden about a year ago.

I thought it was brilliant, one of the best films we've ever done here in Sweden.

And, yes, it is very brutal and has a few shocking scenes.

  • Watching the good doctor express the complexity of the film with his hands made me think that Dr. K should do a 5 Live show dressed up as Neil Patrick Harris' Dr. Horrible character with the white coat, latex gloves, and the iconic mad scientist goggles on his head.

Looking like that while waving his arms around and explaining the complexity of films; well I could watch that all day.

  • Sorry Mark but I think you are wrong about the dubbing of animated films. Often they are terribly miscast and totally deviate from the intended original character. Meh

  • It's like watching a Kenny Everett sketch....BIG hands Dr, at least he is not a real doctor wiv latex gloves!

  • wow his hands are big!

  • If the doc says its ok, I'm checking it out.

  • I really want to see this.

In fact, i stopped the video as i like not knowing what a film is about before watching it.

I somehow know i want to see it. I forget how.

  • Had no interest in seeing this at all,,,if the doctor likes it then thats endorsement enough for me
