Though on a scale of what's more believable - the ancient alien theory is more believable to me. That doesn't mean I believe it, I just rate it as more slightly more likely. So god theory has about .01% chance of being true, ancient aliens about 1% chance of being true. Both are incredibly unlikely - one is just slightly less so.
Darwin's "Theory" of Evolution has never been proven. It doesn't matter what you believe. Post some proof here if you think it has, I would love to see it. One species cannot transform into another species, so how can something that has never been proven... be a fact? That doesn't mean I am a creationist, it simply means Darwin's Theory of Evolution has never been proven.

Hold on genius. I didn't believe such things existed either, but when I was 19 & in the Army, I got an opportunity to go to electronics (Microwave Comm.) school. Before I knew it, I found myself in Vietnam, working in classified projects. Bcuz I was Crypto. cleared, I was privy to sensitive info. I was going to write something about why theists speak the way they do, but it may come off as condescending or as me proselytizing so I wont. Perhaps what I just said may come off that way. That is isn't though, isn't it? The communication gap between people. What sounds condescending to another is just a value the person is trying to express. I think it has more to do with a communication breakdown more than anything else really.
Paul described God as something that we move in and have our being, so how is that the same as an invisible flying pig? One of the frustrations of the theist is when God (of the Bible) is being made to seem equal in concept and evidence to all the other God's of human history. @krustofskie I suppose their bacon would be the best - but as you say - they are incredibly hard to catch. In fact, I don't think anyone has caught one yet. I would be willing to pay a reward to anyone who could capture me an invisible flying pig so that we could test how tasty it's bacon is. I think many Theists don't understand that it is religion that is ridicled, not the notion that there may be a higher intelligence/creator who made the universe possible. I mean, Atheists believe it to be highly unlikely, but most don't totally dismis it since we still don't how what 'the first cuase' was. You can never be sure of anything and if an Atheist said he was 100% sure God didn't exist, he would be entering the world of 'faith' - and we don't want to be ridiculed for that, do we?

In my experiences the ridicule only gets pulled out after I've been threatened with eternal damnation, which seems to be passive/aggressive frustration against my not nodding in agreement.

So the diff. as I see it is that moving from Xian belief to non-belief, is a progression. It comes from increasing our knowledge on a subject where before, we were content with just having our "beliefs" always reinforced!
So it makes no sense how a person can go from an advanced state of knowledge to...forgetting all we've learned!

The atheists position of non-belief, is based on the Xians inability to provide any such evidence for his god. But with us there's more to it.

Well, the irony of this is that I feel the exact same way about Xians who claim to have been atheists, but then became Xian!
While it may seem like I'm just doing a tit for tat, I think I'm quite right in showing the unlikely chance of an atheist becoming a Xian, but total logic in seeing a Xian becoming an atheist!

You make so many excellent points.
A good example is there assertion that an omniscient & omnipotent god exists, who also gave us free will.
Such a being as I just listed with all it's attributes, is highly illogical and simply cannot exist....nor with those attributes.

Hold on genius. I didn't believe such things existed either, but when I was 19 & in the Army, I got an opportunity to go to electronics (Microwave Comm.) school. Before I knew it, I found myself in Vietnam, working in classified projects. Bcuz I was Crypto. cleared, I was privy to sensitive info. To make a long story short, in 1967 my life changed forever when I discovered that we are in fact not alone, & have likely never been.
Regardless of how crazy that might sound its a fact.

A little long winded but well put. I have been an atheist since I was about 12. In the last four decades+ I have been told by theists that I have no morals, that I'm evil, that I have no feelings, that I'm going to hell, and on and on. All untrue. There are many things in this world that I'm not sure of. The fact that there is no god is not one of them. I'm tired of being polite to theists. I don't hate them; I pity them. The perfect lie is told by one who believes to the one most susceptible.

@sarevor I agree. It is funny. And definitely constitutes a communication breakdown. I haven't figured out a way to get around it aside from just accepting that you sound as ridiculous as they sound to you. That approach at least creates a humility and prevents us from devolving into insults because the other person is just too stupid to realize the brilliance of our explanation. And boy - I hate when that happens.

I was going to write something about why theists speak the way they do, but it may come off as condescending or as me proselytizing so I wont. Perhaps what I just said may come off that way. That is isn't though, isn't it? The communication gap between people. What sounds condescending to another is just a value the person is trying to express. I think it has more to do with a communication breakdown more than anything else really.

Paul described God as something that we move in and have our being, so how is that the same as an invisible flying pig? One of the frustrations of the theist is when God (of the Bible) is being made to seem equal in concept and evidence to all the other God's of human history. We know very well how ridiculous we seem to people that don't have a belief and we also know that we sound like we're being condescending. It's just a way for theists to try to communicate an idea.

I understand how an Atheist would get defensive or whatever when someone is preaching to them, but I don't think that's what honesttheist's video is about. It sounds like he is more commenting on unprovoked videos or other things that Atheists have made. Namely, a lot of videos on Youtube that are just flat-out harsh regardless of who the videos were intended for. Not only that, but ad campaigns that have popped up in big cities saying stuff like "there is probably no God".

@krustofskie I suppose their bacon would be the best - but as you say - they are incredibly hard to catch. In fact, I don't think anyone has caught one yet. I would be willing to pay a reward to anyone who could capture me an invisible flying pig so that we could test how tasty it's bacon is. Of course, I would need to verify that it wasn't just an invisible pig but an invisible flying pig before paying out such a reward.

For theists:
Would you really not ridicule a person that comes to you prothetizing the existence of the "invisible flying pig" god? Someone that insists these pigs are real and if you don't believe in them you'll burn in pig-hell?
Can you at least understand why ridicule would be commonplace?
Then, what if these IFP believers wanted you you pay their taxes? Passed laws that say you can't buy certain things in stores on the holy pig-day, (which is thursday)

I think many Theists don't understand that it is religion that is ridicled, not the notion that there may be a higher intelligence/creator who made the universe possible. I mean, Atheists believe it to be highly unlikely, but most don't totally dismis it since we still don't how what 'the first cuase' was. You can never be sure of anything and if an Atheist said he was 100% sure God didn't exist, he would be entering the world of 'faith' - and we don't want to be ridiculed for that, do we?

Where atheism stands out is in the insistence that it is based on fact, and not based at all on faith. As there is no way to use logic to prove or disprove the existence of God, atheism is, in fact, based completely on theory and faith

Coming to the conclusion of atheism is simply to find the arguments or evidence for the existence of god(s) unconvincing. It is lack of belief in a god or gods. No facts and no faith is required to not believe in something there is no evidence or convincing arguments for. You yourself do it all the time.

Simply not true. Atheism is lack of belief. That's it. Lack of belief. Faith is in no way required.
This lack of belief is based on the fact that there is no credible evidence for the existence of any god. Or other supernatural thing or event. Theists claim to believe despite the absense of evidence using faith.
If I were to claim that some unlikely thing existed you would ask for some proof. If I failed to provide credible proof your reasonable position is to not believe my claim.

nice thoughtful response - hope he'll watch it. for the most part i agree with your line of reasoning. however, i must admit that i have to go a step further and take issue with the Institutions religion has built for itself. i am all for ppl 'worshiping' or not whatev they desire and being accepting of others to do the same. BUT their institutions are changing laws, swaying politics -wars, etc. dividing the world basically. Needlessly.
