  • good trailer! Ran is a master piece

  • Kurosawa is incredible!

  • really amazing video and the perfect music

  • Yari Ashigaru! Spear wall!

  • Dude, seriously an amazing trailer. Best fan made one I've seen.

  • I really love this movie, but honestly I think that Kurosawa has this very oriented to "Die Nibelungen" from Fritz Lang (1924).

  • Kurosawa with this film grasped the inner essence of human history: a ciclics...endless and futile bloodbath.

  • @TeddieBearPussy this movie is epic... go fuck your self and grow a pair of balls

  • @pljtgh i don't think this movie is epic, i think is TRAGIC, kagemusha in the other hand it is epic, ran represents the worst of human nature, the best could be dersu uzala, ran is the killing of brothers and assasination of a father, also the superb score of takemitsu tell us about the drama and the sadness of this history, in the end is just a revenge from lady kaebe, the movie?, una autentica obra maestra, (in perfect spanish....)

  • Good trailer but it shows WAY too much of the events from the film.

  • Ran! That's part of my name..

This scene reminds me of the opening clip in the game Shogun: Total War.

  • @DeepCrimson lol if you mean the original im pretty sure clips from Ran were what they used to make the cut scenes in that game so it probably was.

  • @murray1234567891011 Yeah, I can't seem to find the intro on Youtube, but I definitely remember seeing clips of this movie in the 'cgi' intro for Total War. I wish I could find it though to confirm....

  • best film maker from japan!

  • @lakotadak If you were to ask the best film makers alive, they'd say Akira is the best film maker ever.

  • Kurosawa's shots are like paintings, so well done its insane.

  • The best film ever made.

  • A God Damn Masterpiece...God bless the Japanese people for their culture.

  • When was this movie released?

  • @Haruko51689 1985. It was one of his last films but it syncs most of his previous ones in this masterpiece

  • is this song from the insider (with russell crowe and al pacino)? good video

  • i like this music it fits.. also it was on the film The Mist

  • this is the most expensive japonese movie ever MADE!!!!! why are ther no more vieuws for this???

  • ayran

  • Amazing film!

  • Damn, hate the bard making stupid jokes with the lord. Couldve killed the tv....

  • @mashugac

the bard was brutally honest yet funny though. You needed someone to relieve the tone once in a while.

  • aa

  • Ashigaru running with banners on their backs in a formation looks wonderful.....

    Really nice story....

    This movie rox

  • Great fan trailer! You really showed this work of art the respect it deserves. Better than 90% of the fan trailers out there!

  • From the beginning the political stability and peace to war and chaos in less than 2 hours .. amazing movie.

A former Portuguese poet said: see that perilous safety

  • Fantastic movie. Picked it up on bluray, it was the first movie I watched in HD on my new plasma tv! (I'm a little behind in technology.) And it looked fantastic.

A very meditative film, beautiful compositions and colour. You can definitely feel the years of experience Kurosawa poured into this one. Left me pretty rattled. Can't wait for a second viewing.

  • This is lame substituting the original soundtrack for this one by dead can dance. This was already used in the Mist - a Stephen king horror flick.

  • so fucking awesome, this is epic.!!!!!!!!!!

  • incredible work with the trailer man...wow

  • Wow- so many of Kurosawa's films have scenes that give me goosebumps but Ran has got to be the one with the most of those moments.... awe inspiring director. great job with the trailer :)

  • owhz!!! nice one!!

  • ohz!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

  • this movie almost PERFECT

  • Very good film by Akira Kurosawa. I love how he kept playing with all these colors.

  • Just saw RAN again this week at the local theater, for the first time in a long time. I agree about this trailer. Great job cutting picture to music, and the music here is excellent Sounds a little like the Cocteau Twins, sans pop beat.

  • Just saw RAN again this week at the local theater, for the first time in a long time. I agree about this trailer. Great job, cutting picture to music, and the music here is excellent Would love to know what 'tis... Sounds a little like the Cocteau Twins, sans pop beat.

  • Ran was the most haunting film I have ever seen....

  • sorry but takemitsu, is takemitsu....is like if you put john williams in blade runner, doesn't work....

  • wow

  • one of the most amazing things about this movie to me is that despite being one of the best films of all time (in my opinion), it does not even rank in my top 10 kurosawa films.

  • @pizzaisfuntoeat

    what

you have got to be kidding lol

Seven Samurai is undoubtedly No. 1...Throne of Blood is good too...

But Ran in its massive scope has to be at least top 5 IMO.

  • @donnk it is just my personal opinion.

high and low, ikiru, yojimbo, rashomon, seven samurai, throne of blood, the hidden fortress, sanjuro plus so many more.

there are so many great kurosawa films it almost feels wrong trying to rank them .

  • Beautiful choice of background music.

  • This movie was great but realy is too tragic for my taste I hate when this happen in tragidies I always fell bad for the characters either in books or movies and again in this movie I hate how the Great Lord and Lor Suruga died in end is so stupid and so impossible how would those ashigaru with guns get passed all armies that were attacking and by a strike of luck hit Lord Suruga? Alas I guess is part of great struture of all movie of chaos and death

  • Music is totally unfitting. You should have used the powerful theme from the movie, or at least from other Kurosawa works.

  • Ran, your trailer....Outstanding!

  • Where did I already heard that music? Do someone know in wich movie?

(sorry for my bad english :S)

  • @madococo have you seen THE MIST ?

  • @BornToDie90 Exaclty, I made some research yesterday and I found that it was the last song of the movie.

    Thank you !

  • so far, my favorite Kurosawa film, and thats saying a lot considering how much i adore seven samurai and throne of blood, and this trailer perfectly sums up the feel of the film, great job guys, great job

  • Lord Hidetora Ichimonji (Nakadai Tatsuya) and I are gonna be kickin' back some brews when he comes to Seoul next month. Connections are a wonderful thing.

  • Actually this trailer is way better than the original. Mind-blowing experience !!

  • no need to say how epic the movie is.

but man, this trailer you guys did is incredibly awesome. in my opinion its even better than the original. Awesome job, fav and thumbs up

  • Love this movie, the best asian ever made.

    Akira Kurosawa, a true master

  • As close to perfection as it can get!

  • yes!

  • Ran will be airing on TCM-Turner Classic Movies on March 30 at 1:45 am

  • I REALLY need to see this movie.

  • Un chef-d'oeuvre d'Akira Kurosaw.

Et ce n'est pas le seul.

  • Now I really wanna see this.

  • this is such an amazing movie

  • La fame di potere e la perdita della ragione conducono inevitabilmente alla sconfitta dell'umanita' e al degradamento della stessa verso il pozzo nero della morte.

  • i prefer by far takemitsu's original music, goes with the film perfectly.

  • Agreed, the original Takemitsu score is an integral part of the film. But they've done a great job here matching evocative music to some of the film's most stunning scenes. What a masterpiece.

  • To phxsns1... don't quote me on this, but I believe that the music featured on this trailer is played by Dead Can Dance... the name of the album escapes me... does anyone know???

  • I know I've heard this music before somewhere....

  • I know for a fact it's the music played at the ending of the movie "The Mist". Don't know what it's called though.

  • YES! It was also in Baraka.

  • A truly epic masterpiece in every sense of the word.

  • The beheading scene was epic and kind of unexpected. haha

  • epic

  • I watch this on Sundance Channel and it was good

  • Not one sword fight? That's what you got out of this film? Not the insane chaos, the backstabbing, the emotional depths of the characters, the tragedy of the loss of control, the multiple suicides, and themes ranging from humanistic relations to God to nihilism to warfare and how they affect change from giant countries down to individuals? You're complaining about LACK OF SWORDPLAY??!? This film is so ridiculously brimming with interesting content that it wasn't long - it FLEW by.

  • lol this is the exact kind of comment that i was expecting, yeah those thing were ok but another thing is that they didnt do much first shots i coudlnt recognice the faces sometimes xD i guess that just not my kind of movie, thats just me I mean, i respect that everybody else likes it =) bye

  • @BlownMacTruck Very well said, dear.

  • @BlownMacTruck you my friend, win

  • @BlownMacTruck They are obviously looking for a campy samurai flick. Not a quality work of art.

  • @BlownMacTruck I don't think I've ever seen a Kurosawa film with a sword duel in it :P

  • @KingTekins Fairly sure there's one in Rashomon. I'd have to check though.

  • @BlownMacTruck

Now that you mention it, perhaps someone could answer this question for me. Does this film really have much in the way of "epic" battles? I'm all in favor of deep characters and whatnot, but I'm still curious.

  • @Manas10101 it does, though that's not the reason of being for the movie. There are only two battle sequences in the movie, but both are memorable, and both exist not forced for the sake of action but as an integral part of the plot.

  • @samsam29

Okay. Thank you for telling me :)

  • @Manas10101 If you want battles, then you should check out the 1990 japanese film 'Heaven and Earth' (not to be confused with Oliver Stones film of the same name)

Heaven and Earth is like watching the film version of Shogun Total War 2 :)

  • @BVargas78

Thank you for the suggestion :)

  • @BlownMacTruck that was beautiful

  • @BlownMacTruck

I don't know who this was a response to, but that person should go see "The Sword of Doom" and enjoy seeing Toshiro Mifune hop out of that palanquin.

  • @BlownMacTruck Well, the drama was exceptional, but one thing this and many other of Akira Kurosawa's movies lack is sword fighting, an element of samurai culture that outweighs the majority of others. Many Japanese moves have lots of charging but little actual legitimate combat; one would expect to see amazing battles filled with cunning, brilliant, and swift sword moves, but the film lacks such, an in my opinion pivotal, aspect.

  • A great trailer of an awesome film. Thanks!

  • An AWESOME movie ... nicely paired with Dead Can Dance.

Final scene of the castle burning down was done in one take (no errors or second takes) due to the scale of the inferno on the set. So you the viewer see it as it unfolded (no edits).

    Enjoy!

  • Kurosawa does Shakespeare set to Dead can Dance. What's not to love?

  • i think the song is also used in The Mist movie.btw great movie(ran).its a must

  • Good job on the trailer the other trailer with the hog wasn't doing it for me. I never seen this movie and will see it!

  • GREAT Movie.

  • Is the music here on the original soundtrack?

  • No. The music is taken from the album "The Serpent's Egg" by Dead Can Dance.

  • the music is the soundtrack of "Baraka"by Dead Can Dance.

  • @mdfernandez77

Music is Dead can dance - The host of seraphim. As for me, this music does not fit for this movie

  • a great movie...

even my teenaged boys liked it.

A remake of King Lear, of course.

  • Great movie and great trailer. This is way better than the official trailer. BTW what is the background music?

  • It's "The Host of the Seraphim", from the album "The Serpent's Egg" by Dead Can Dance.

  • @charlatanfilms I love this song, it's on Paul Oakenfold's "Perfecto Presents: Another World" Disc 1 :)

  • @kh884488 this is "Dead can dance" music I dunno the track title though

  • Hey some of those scene were in shogun toal war cool!

  • It's hard to do justice to a film this magnificent with a fan trailer, but you pulled it off!

5 stars for you, well done! :-)

  • This is such a great movie. Nice job on the fan trailer, too..
