Wonderful poem, wonderful reading. I wonder if there's any truth to the economics. Islam condemns usury and America has had usury laws of a sort. Certainly the practice of credit card companies, charging 24% interest, is just predation. But what about money lending as a livelihood. Economists say it's all helpful allocation of capital but Warren Buffett says he doubts this. He thinks a lot of financial sector activities are just leeching.

I can't believe how many people marked down my comment. I still say Pound's a terrific poet, but that doesn't make him any less of a troubling figure historically. The thing is, for Pound, economics and politics were linked -- he had this utopian vision of semi-divine rulers (Mussolini, Adams, the good monarchs of China) who would dynamically seize control of the entire state apparatus and purge the gunk from all levels of society.
