Lyrically, this is closer to McCarthy (the band) than The Smiths. It's one of his bravest songs I think, though - unfortunately - it's too subtle for a lot of people (many of them music journalists). Issuing an "I do not support the National Front"-type disclaimer would've been missing the point entirely though.
Oh, I don't think that I'm either. The whole song paints the picture of people joining the National Front out of spite as a vengeful vehicle of denial. It's extremely patronising towards the movement and undermines it throughout, shown clearly in the way Morrissey speaks slowly and simply to 'David' as if he were talking to a child.
And I don't believe you can think that Morrissey takes the National Front seriously knowing that he chose 'National Front Disco' as the title!
