this movie bends every american action movie in the past 2 decades over and gives them a whose for. Throw in I Saw the Devil, Ong-Bak and and Foreign Chan movie. America is just too pussy for most of these kinds of scenes.
There just aren't enough great action movies like this in the U.S. We need more movies from asian countries to make up for our lack of awesome killing sequences.
This is everything that you wanted to happen to the bad guys in every movie that the hero died and the villain won. Executed with such precision and brutality that it transcends simple unrelenting violence and instead becomes an art form.
the guy in brown didnt shoot him cuz he loves to fight and thats all he cares about if u watch the movie (WHICH YOU SHOULD) hes just a mercenary who enjoys killing/fighting. he probably wanted to see who was better.
@knsmile87 I think he had a knife in his hand he was using to deflect it, or at least he was supposed to, the quality isn't high enough for me to tell. Which if he had the knife he'd be able to do
thats the closest thing to a realistic portrayal of a knife fight in film ive seen. especially in the many-vs-one part. in a real knife fight you cut the nearest appendage or object near you, you don't just go for vitals. it isn't clear or pretty. like a man i trained with used to say, if there's a knife in a fight, no-one's leaving without a scratch.
@Tris10 lol seriously. It's amazing, the choreography. The protagonist's every move is all calculated and amazingly executed. The thugs' actions are just flailing around and blindly swinging.
@GypsyStan5150187and2 haha bro this is a modern movie. In other old classic asian movies you won't see that, but since this is a modern movie, there's none of that cheesiness to it. There's real life fighting with actuality. And plus, even the great bruce lee bit his opponent during one of his fight scenes.
wow... uhh... I want to know what the though process of that last guy was. "I could kill him now, but lets see what he can do." *Few Minutes later* .. *shoots jar* "now lets see how he fights when he is REALLY angry"
*looks around* "My turn?" *puts down gun* "no worries, I've got this"
all i know is that when a guy kills a room full of people, no longer has a gun, and turn towards me like he wants to EAT ME... I'm shooting him while running out the door lol.
@littlebopepe I think he was just a good guy, and realized that the main character was fighting for just reasons, and he just didn't want to execute him in cold blood, but instead, fight him with honor.
This whole scene is insane to begin with, and brutally choreographed, but it really brings home how much sound design plays a part. Those tearing sounds with the knives make my toes curl.
in about 3min and 40sec its kinda creepy when someone turns at you with hecka blood on his face and one of his eyebrows are up one is down dont you think guys but still he is the best
The whole time he's fucking up the goons, the goons are cutting this guy. Adrenaline makes you do things that would be otherwise impossible. I know he fucked those goons up, but when he gets home to that pawnshop, he's going to scream like fucking hell!
It's a goddamn movie and it's entertaining. So what if it's not totally realistic, it doesn't have to be. Choreographed fights r usually gonna be above and beyond in movies compared to real life. If u didn't enjoy this because of that then its ur loss.
The plausibility of this fight scene is hard to understand unless you, yourself, have been trained in the S.F.C.B. or multiple styles of martial arts. To the untrained eye it just looks like an exceptionally brutal fight scene-however, in reality, it is a great scene that accurately portrays what a man with his training and nothing to lose would do to a room of thugs under those circumstances-(In a smaller room, with less room to move, their numbers would have meant more & lack of training less)
@legioXequestriis actually you're wrong. This is a fighting style called Mugade Hadan. It was developed during the sumarian days when Emperor Enojis ruled with an iron fist over the kingdom and had his personal army run amok. Mugabe Hadan was a teacher who studied martial arts of ancient China and he opposed the regime and developed a fighting style that bordered desperation.
@legioXequestriis When Enojis had seen the brutality and the way his army men were killed he sent his personal guards to dispose of Mugabe. Luckily Mugabe escaped as he was no match for 100+ personal guards, thus the fighting style was passed down today.
@legioXequestriis I hate to tell you this, but you're dumb in addition to trying to pass off your supposed knowledge as gospel through a supposed understanding of martial arts. If you had the slightest attentive eye you'd see how absolutely stupid fight scene this is, as most are. There are multiple moments where as he's striking, the bad guys try to slice him up and end up hitting the floor instead, as they slow down for the hit to make sure he gets out of the way
@legioXequestriis My previous post also ignores completely the actual gun scene. The amount of time it took him to pump 2 bullets through the people beside him would have been enough for someone to pump a couple into him. Don't be so pretentious.
@legioXequestriis Oh definitely...cant help but feel an ak47 would have done a gre8 job in a packed room though...and a man with his training would have recced the place and came equipped to clear out rooms with plenty of gang bangers. Key point: he brought one pistol and one knife in a spacy room. If it had been a small room, i think he would've brought a pistol automatic type with him. Probably one of those 25 bullet extended clip type to really put down the fire. great fucking scene.
Disregard the fact that the one guy had his aim on him for well over 2 min, not inluding the time he stood there all by himself.
Not to mention, bad guys in real life doesn't stand around and wait for their turn while their buddies get beaten and slashed to pieces, they go at you all at once.
This told me just what I needed about how much actual fighting experience you have.
@Massivecarcrash watch the movie...the guy he fights at the end of this clip didnt give a damn about the other bad guys. He actually show's some humanity concerning the little girl. He just wanted to fight a master like him.
@Vlogtimusprime I think in real life that's far too reliant on chance. This block is force on force, the bat has a definitive advantage against the bones in your forearms. The better approach is to step in and (1) block the arm or (2) blend with the arm.
@gabrielsburg Actually there is a way to block such a strike with your elbow without sustaining injury. It's also a matter of how much force you apply with your arm and where it's applied. If you're muscular/well toned, the body can survive a lot more. It'd hurt like mad, but with the adrenaline you wouldn't notice it until much later. You are right, though, that it relies on an awful lot. It would have to be perfect. If well trained, it could work. But I wouldn't try it myself :P
@gabrielsburg Actually, I guess if you wanted to get way too technical, you could look at the angle of the bat to see where the brunt of the force was being applied (I'm a physics major, I can't help it :P ). But that goes a little farther into a movie than is really needed :P Like I said, I think if I were him, I'd duck first rather than risk doing it wrong and breaking my arm :P
@Dresgeve Let me help with this. I'm not a physics major or a film critic but I am a warrior and fighter who had an experience that goes much beyond that the average US Serviceman during my time in the Sandbox and, as of now, makes a living on instructing hand to hand combat and assisting with bladed weapons instruction to our new recruits. It all depends on the force and arc of the bat as well as which part of the back makes contact as well as the angle and position of the arm.
@Dresgeve Also, while it's usually ideal to dodge a blow instead of absorb one-it is not always the best thing to do-even if you have the time/space-we learned, when fighting multiple opponents(especially if surrounded)to use the bodies of the attackers to impede one another/shield yourself & stay 2 moves ahead at all time(so you don't dodge a bat just to have a knife hit your throat)-however, to dodge the bat creates the chance of "friendly fire" in such closed confines.
for me, one of the best fight scenes out there. The one where they fight in the club was pretty awesome too.
