I am a veteran of the 1991 Gulf War and I want to thank Gene and KISS for going out on a limb to defend what the US Armed Forces do. Oh, My God... Nobody was "exempt" from the draft by virtue of being in college. It was possible to receive what was called a "college deferment" (Clinton had one of those). However, he claims if his number had been picked he would have gladly fought.
There were thousands of people who didnt go to vietnam due to being college. Call it college deferment or call it college status exempt the result is the same my friend. I respect your views however and its nice to speak to someone on here with a brain cell.

I don't understand all of the fuss here. Gene took the time to show his appreciation of our military and all who serve, as we all should. I didn't serve in the military, so does that make me a hypocrite that I support our Troops? I don't think it does. I think Gene should be commended for doing this. You guys are reading way too far into this. He is merely showing appreciation. I COMPLETELY back our Troops, past and present.

Interesting posts here. If I may inject, I think it makes no difference if Gene served or not. I have served 4 years active in the Navy and 2 years reserve. The fact that he acknowledges the Military and the job they are doing is excellent. Some people here are acting since he didnt serve or his son isnt in the military he is a hypocrite. Thats ridiculous. Stating that Gene actively avoids military service is idiotic to say the least.

ffryan, let me spell out to you: I am in no way critical of gene simmons for simply not having served in the military. This is not the issue at hand. Rather, the issue is the hypocrisy of an invidual who openly adocates for others to fight a war and yet, actively avoids military service.Gene Simmons has been vociferous in his support of our involvement in the Vietnam War as well as the war Iraq.Yet he never enlisted during Vietnam nor does his son have any intention of signing up.

Oh, My God... Nobody was "exempt" from the draft by virtue of being in college. It was possible to receive what was called a "college deferment" (Clinton had one of those). If you had watched his sorry execuse of a show, at the end he mentioned his DRAFT number was too high, and thus he was never required to joing the military. However, he claims if his number had been picked he would have gladly fought.

Of course, Mr. Witz always finds it easier to speak in the subjunctive when considering his lack of military service(i.e, " I would have fought if my draft number been picked..." ). Of course, this typical of his ilk: to support a war from afar without any risk to himself or his family, while others, the real heroes, make the real sacrifices.

I was sooo touched by Gene's reverence for our troops and veterans. First, he and his daughter get a taste of boot camp followed by a trip to a local VA hospital so he can personally thank the veterans
for their service. Finally, he throws a concert in honor of all the different branches of our armed
forces. I was in tears. What a true patriot.
