lay one down, take eight nails and lie four on one side, four the other, have the flat heads sticking over the opposite side, and have them alternating between left and right side of the main nail, then lay the tenth nail on top, pinch the ends of the two main nails together, lift carefully and ballance on top of nail.

Because the one nail is embedded in the wood, it will be slightly "shorter" allowing the "taller" nails to lean on the one nail at an angle.
