it really sucks wasting time repairing linux stuff ... have you tried to make a snapshot of your filesystem, i know it works with ext4 or btrfs, then you can roll back to a system which works.
GAH, no offense but this should be a lesson that you always back up files before you go dicking around with linux distros. (I had to learn it the hard way too)
as for 9.10 it works great for me ALOT quicker than 9.04 (that and I'm less of a Linux noob now). I think I might put studio 9.10 on my desktop.
I tried update, I tried cd, I tried DVD, I tried pray during the instalation, okay, nothing when I say nothing is really NOTHING, this piece of shit didnt work. Was by far my worse experience with ubuntu, actually with Linux... anyhow, after spent 2 days fixin my pc now its everything okay, jaunty!
i had several problems aswell i read in a magazine about programs and mainly it's the flashplayer!! it interferes with most of the programs.. It's a studio based os man. I know it sucks but I just went back to ubuntu 9.10 added most programs i used on ubuntu 9.10.
I tried using the DVD and spent most of the day trying to make it work. The real-time kernel for Ubuntu Studio 9.10 is worthless. couldn't even get it to work on Ubuntu regular. I decided to install Ubuntu 8.04 then use the repositories from 64studio 3 beta and have a pretty solid system.
confirmed! my upgrade from ubuntu studio 9.04 to 9.10 failed too. well it did not hang/freeze while upgrading. it completed the upgrade in my case. BUT the whole system/gui (X) was not usable after the upgrade. it lags/hangs and been slow like hell which is definite not normal. So i can confirm that Ubuntu 9.10 upgrade is pretty CRAPY and i dont recomment it. Either reinstall by DVD or even better stay with 9.04 yet!! Wait for the next Release.

Install 64 Studio. I have the 3 beta as my audio distro, and it works out of the box. 64 Studio is the best audio distro out there.
