2 of the nicest and most talented guys known to music in modern times.
Spare a thought for Mother Cunningham having to watch her 2 boys have heart attacks at such young ages, and to suffer the devastating loss of her eldest son Johnny at the young age of just 46.
Phil may you live 2 lifetimes and keep us all entertained when we've all gone onto Gods' green pastures!
I believe this was from one of the last concerts Silly Wizard gave in Atlanta? If so, I was there. Still takes my breath away to see the video. Still remember Andy Stewart's crack at the end about "and when they play really fast only dogs can hear them." So grateful for the time the brothers had to make music like this together. Phil is still playing great stuff, but I do miss Johnny's sound with his.
Of course, it's just magnificent. Been honoured to see Phil with Aly Bain a bunch of times and meet them both on several occasions; just wish I could've seen Johnny once. Still, watching Phil do Jean's Reel live is breathtaking.
From France : Make sure that french guys like me are in love with this music ! I saw these two great musicians 25 years ago when I was a student, and they are still in my mind ! Great, great pleasure to hear such a music : keep on playing, guys !
The tunes are: "The Laird of Drumblair" - strathspey, with a reel version played by Johnny "Jean's Reel" - Phil's solo "The Musical Priest" - final reel played by both. as noted by SwinginDrumMeister. (From my posting of this set 04 Aug 2007.)
Thanks. I think I got the video from your posting. I wanted to embed it in my website but I think your upload didn't allow that. I wouldn't have uploaded if it could. Thanks for posting it originally and I hope you don't mind.
OMG Was that in this world? Thanks for posting this. I actually got to hear them do this LIVE, (unplanned), in Pittsburgh and it was positively orgasmic.
wonderful...

Crazy accordion ornamentation! Sometimes overdoing it, but VERY impressive! Perhaps one day I will be that good... :)
