@justsaying99 support greg sage directly through the zeno records website =) i think all of the wipers albums are great, but i have been listening to the albums "the power in one" and "sliver sail" a lot lately...
check out a Portland band contemporary w/the Wipers: the Miracle Workers. Although stylistically different, they were sometimes on the same bill together, '80s-'90s... awesome in their own right, albeit not as soul-driven as Greg Sage
I quite like the drum sound...it makes the song sound nimbler and pacy, rather than heavy, kind of like jazz. The bass guitar hold things down well enough. I like to think Sage had this in mind when mixing. I reckon at times too much bass can drag a song down. The drummer uses the bass drum effectively, for embellishment.
ten years ago i used to play guitar in a wipers cover-band. we only played songs from their first two records. always fun, playing at two o'clock in the mornig to a crowd of totally waste old school punks ;-) haven't listened to this in years.
@AlbertSiebener oh those are the best things to remeber i guess... gigs... i played at a garage band to, couldnt help it, i had to reply to your comment.
you've got a good prof! also yeah their first three albums are generally considered the best. they've been reissued in a 3-disc box set with extra features blah blah blah. get that and if you like it all i'd follow up with some of their later releases. silver sail is good, but also really different from their earlier stuff. still, it's really solid and you've gotta appreciate sage not letting the band stagnate.
wait a minute ...so awesome. love this song.

Lets get just a little too proud
That's the way it appears in a crowd
But it's not quite the same
So you think that you'll never get burnt
Then what are you doing waiting for your turn
Wait a minute
So is it that we're really on trial
But nothing's ever gonna change out style
dcmackin1 1 year ago
Let's just a little too loud
That's the way I've seen it written by the
Clouds but I'm so far away
Thought you said I would never get hurt
Then what am I doing crawling in the dirt
Wait a minute wait a minute wait a minute
So just give me a little smile
Nothins ever gonna change our style
