this one rocks man it opened my eyes....i really need to shit out my lazyness..........it could have been much better if the perspective of Saori is narrated.........i mean the way she see's the things
i like the old video design where you used 2 do an informal raw video, it made me get inspiration and feel free and happy everytime i would c a new video. i mean the drawings are amazing but i prefer the more informal approach
I like the still sketchbooks because you can have time to focus on the work better. But, if there are gonna be shaky iphone videos, it would be nice if the artists commented on thier own work.
i love the 'shaky version' which is not as shaky as u mentioned. thank you so much n Saori for sharing.. it really insipires me to start to learn drawing to pursue my childhood dream :D
What would really be helpful to me (a beginner artist) is if you would sit down with certain (willing) students while they're drawing, sketching, creating art in the moment and broadcast how certain idea's are done and such. The finish product is always so very nice but my beginner hands feels like they could never create such beauty :(
I like the shaky vids, since sometimes the artists gets to share their thoughts on what they drew. it makes ut a little more personal, which I think someone else stated as well. :) Great class
Saori's work is terrific. I don't mind stills, or a shakey video. Both are great.
One thing I have to say is this. Saori is sooo lucky having such a brilliant tutor as you. Your enthusiasm, and encouragement is something that would have made me want to please you 30 years ago when I was studying art. Our young kids need guys like you. Who knows what the potential talent is we have out there? We need more people like you Mathew.
i liked the shaky vids because to me its more personal...you can hear some voices on the background and alot of times you can see that you are in the zoo or in the park and the wind is flipping the pages. If i want to take a good look at something i just click the pause button :) i dont know why but i hate slideshows its stiff and it looks dead to me
Personally, I like the stills, if the point is to showcase the sketch book then I'd like to be able to see the art clearly. The stills acomplish this nicely.
I like it more when you are talking because it's more informative and it's not boring. Also when you're talking to your students. I wish I live where you are living and studying where you teach, I also took fine arts here in the Philippines I've lot alot but I find it that I'd be more creative if I studied there.
i like the sketchbook vides with just the stills and voice over. i think u shuld talk about like the way she draws and stuff, talk about her style and why u like her drawings, kinda like wat u did on this one. i might do something like this for myself, i culd use alot of feedback. :)
I didn't think the video was that shaky actually. I like the candid videos more than the stills, but you should take good steady stills of your favorite drawings in the video and put those at the end and maybe talk about them more then
i like the stills better it gives you the ability to focus on discussing the sketchbook use the video part to introduce the artist and have them tell a little about them self's ... always look forward to your videos
I like it when you just go in and look at the sketch book and talk with the artist. I was wondering is there a foundation course students have to go through to get in your class?
Matthew, I just viewed the second part of your video and I would like to change my mind (I wrote the comment just below). The way you emphisize certain things about the drawing in your comments and synchronize it with your visual emphisisis and framing is such a vibrant way of showcasing drawings that, I think, is the way to go.
Still images with Voiceover commentary is visually superior for it intensifies the beauty of the drawings when they are still. I personally find the looseness of the sketchbook is more enjoyable then the finished composed pieces. Superlative job Matthew, Keep Up The Good Work!
Shaky video and who the artist is are the most important aspects to me. Makes everything more real and inspirational. The stills are just a nice-to-have.
I like the informal thing because we get to see the sketchbook itself which is typically decorated, we usually get to see the artist, and see how many pages they've accomplished so far that semester. it's a little extra than the stills and we could always see those stills on your blog.
Saori's style is amazing, I adore the cartoony style and I think the traditional drawings she made are amazing...I wish I could do that...so much to learn *sigh* but this only makes me want to keep learning, so thank you for posting these, they inspire me =^-^=
Ooh, and as per your question, I actually like the combination of the type of video you just used; you get a preview at first, and then see the normal filming with the artist's comments and stuff ^^
like the shaky videos with running commentary, very dogma movement. It creates a reality that puts you there in the room. i like the immediacy and the intimacy it creates, which suits sharing a sketchbook which in my view is an act of intimacy. Looking forwards to seeing another set of books. and can i just say Saori, thats some impressive stuff you have there
Thanks for sharing! Great sketches and style, and really inspiring.
Didn't think the shaking was all that bad. Like the videos a lot more than just the stills; we see more, get more information and sometimes the artist can add some background info and comments as well. But both is even better of course. Oh, and just get a new iPhone 4S; better stabilization and nice HD videos ;)
Give me the shaky iphone vids...I like to see the students and hear their answers to your questions. Actually, if you hadn't said anything, I really wouldn't have paid the shaking any attention, as it really wasn't that visible...loved her sketches, btw!!! :-)
Very lovely! I really didn't notice the shakiness, so I'd say keep on keepin' on. I was completely focused on her artwork! Tell her this youtube chick (and fellow artist) thinks her style is rad! Thank you both for sharing.
Saori: Love your contrast !!! Your interprtaion & variety of line, shape, color, dimension, movement & imagination are ABSOLUTELY INSPIRING! ! I am a fan already! Thank you for volunteering your sketchbook Saori! Matt: The shakey video didn't bother me because it really wasn't that shakey ;-D. The still shots before are a nice preview to the video and I like meeting the artist at the beginning! Can't wait to see the BIG Pad! Thank you Matt!
Wow thanks so much for all of the comments. Looks like I will be doing a short commentary during the beginning of each video over stills. Then I will add the organic rough iphone video afterwards. That seems to be a good compromise. Wait until you see the next sketchbooks, you are going to freak. I'm all going to ask Saori if I can film her big pad too.
I like it when you get to see the artist that did the sketchbook they always give like a little insight into why they did this and your cam aint to bad you can still see clearly
Thanks to Saori for volunteering her artwork, really great stuff. The format of this video with stills & commentary at start & actual recording afterwards is perfect. As for the sketchbook in this video, I really have to say that she is really good when it comes to variety and drawing gesture poses :) (and she's really awesome with designing dresses, too). I also love the anthro characters there :3 (I can see a huge Disney influence in the style)!
