  • This has got to be the weirdest game ever.

  • @eatcarpet indeed

  • Watching this in today's world, I am wondering if this is what started Angry Birds. Look at those pigs!

  • Biohazard Upa?

  • "I'm getting diabetes just by looking at it."

  • I too feel like the baby is the bad guy. The animals are just walking around while you change them into balloons and kill them. That's not nice.

  • the pig boss reminds me of birdo from mario 2

  • FIRE ALL BABY LAZERS, lets show these octopi what we're made of.

  • I love the pig's expression when you hit it .

I also realy like playing this game .

  • "Holy cow, i'm getting diabetes just looking at this."

    Subscribed.

  • "I'm getting Diabetes just looking at this."

    Best. Quote. Ever.

  • D'aww.... Upa's so cute! ^_^ So's Rupa (Parodius series) for that matter.

  • Zool, anyone?

  • his rattle looks like a lightsaber o_0

  • Bio MIRACLE? More like experimentation with alcohol and drugs during pregnancy baby!

  • That is one huge cake.

Although this game is weird, at least it's original, we need more game that are as creative as this!

  • they chest need not to sit on anything it is flying due to the things in side

  • im diabetic and ill admit that was a good joke

  • This is one of the weirdest games I've ever seen... Ah POW blocks and the fond memories they bring. :)

  • I grew up on mario! And I am very young. SO HAH! :P

  • you were asking what the treasure chest was sitting on when you should have asked how the hell that baby is defying gravity

  • xD you somehow manage to LP all the games I've heard of that look interesting/silly (this, monster party) but never played :D

  • I remember the POW block. First appeared in the arcade game "Mario Bros"

  • ... On the topic of Super Mario Bros. 2 (that is.. Doki Doki Panic), the boss of 1-3 is definitely a tribute to the first of SMB2's bosses... Sort of. Sure, this game was made first but that's beyond the point.

  • Om nom nom.

Oh god, my hypoglycemic body is dying just watching this.

  • Wart would make a good villain right now.

    Especially since Bowser currently... isn't.

  • Only in the RPGs. In the main series games, he's a very huge threat. Have you even PLAYED Super Mario Galaxy?

  • When you hit the boss pig it looks like my mother when she's angry on me

  • Is that arrowroot biscuit? The pig boss looks like Birdo, too.

  • Of all the games you've demonstrated, this is the scariest. By far. I was planning to take a nap this evening after work, but after seeing this, I'm not going to. But at least I'm learning valuable lessons from it.

Somebody needs to poke that baby in the soft spot.

  • MARIO!!!!

  • The cake eating world... strangely enough, it reminds me a little of a computer game called Supaplex. Heard of it?

  • I pretty young and I know what a POW block is.

  • Well, this game is a fair sight better than that last one. And you play as a murderous infant! What can beat that?

  • Babies don't come form milk.....?

  • Where does all that eaten cake go?

  • In to the Toilet in the form of SHIT!

  • World 1-3 Approaches! NO REFUGE!

  • What the heck...?

  • Mario 2. You meant "Doki Doki Panic", right? :-P

Also: After this, you should play Wai Wai World 2 (because Wai Wai World 1 is ugly).

  • You're going to get punched in the jeans.

  • Why would you abuse denim like that?

  • @DeceasedCrab Yay for Lonely Island joke!

  • @panda118 Ugly, but by 1987-1988 standards, the graphics were pretty good.

  • So this is the infamous "Bio Miracle". The outside (1st and 3rd) level theme has been remixed in a Konami Bemani (Music) Game called Pop'N Music. Remixed about 2 maybe 3 years ago. The remix is pretty freaking awesome too.

I played a "Baby" NES game some years back, but it was most definitely not this.

    Good choice of LP, DC.

  • @VxJasonxV I believe it's "Baby Boomer"?

  • Where do you find all these strange games DC?

  • People have mentioned Parodius, but I'll be the first one to go ahead and mention pop'n music 9, which has the theme from this game as the genre BIO MIRACLE.

Also this game is fantastic and terrifying. Imagine having to go through the cake level as Upa, in real life! All that cake, threatening to collapse on you at any moment! Talk about the sweetest way to go.

  • That baby is gonna be fat from all that cake, and yet he didnt get fatter... just like Kirby.

  • More like Biomotor Unitron.

  • Nice SMB2 reference!

  • But I remember what a POW block is...

  • it's a killer baby!!!

  • Who can be too young to remember a POW! block? I'm surprised.

  • I remember the POW block....omg I'm ooooold -_-

  • he looks like baby mario without the hat

  • Based off Mario I think.

DC is doing some work here :D

  • When I was a kid, the rental store in our town somehow had a copy of this. Seems like it was a pirated version; everyone at school called it "Baby Mario", and researching it just now, that was how a pirate version going around was labeled. For the longest time I thought that was the origin story of Mario, and that Yoshi's Island was a retcon. This brings back memories. I'm really happy to see you LP this.

  • Zai (Zye? Zy? Whatever.) is in no way the bad guy in this game- you were correct first in guessing Upa is the villain. Not only does he invade the land, smiting all those he deems unrighteous and gluttonous (represented as the pig-like creatures), but he also engulfs all of the food in the land (represented by cake), making sure that his crusades would have a lasting effect.

All these poor "pigs" want to do is defend their land from Upa the Devourer,

  • It's Zai.

  • Bad magic baby!

  • this games reminds me of Cocoron (Did I spell that right?)

Things I don't get about this game.

    1. Hitting things with a Rattle turns them into baloons.

    2. picking up a bell lets you run and be fat.

    3. Babys turn into milk bottles?

    4. Why are popsicles sticky and make you jump more, and not slide?

  • The reason I love you so much DC, is how optimistic you always are. Much unlike a large portion of YouTube's other Let's Players.

  • So, I presume they released this on the Wii's VC; since you said it was released in '08? (In the US)

  • DC you underestimate my memory, I remember POW blocks. They were in Mario Bros as well.

  • At least world 2 has healthy food.

  • This seems like a bad drug trip..... I can just imagine playing this while sober, it would probably fucking scare the shit out of me. On the topic of babies though, Bio Miracle Bokutte Upa for all Sexual Education classes!

(High five for making people use correct grammar!)

  • Wart was a lame final boss. <_<

  • And I thought a baby flying through space was strange. Well, at least I know where Upa's from now.

  • Oh my god, DC! What have you started!!

  • That baby is pretty scary.

  • Wow.

This just blew my viewpoint on reality.

  • The levels went from dessert to veggies? This is incorrect dining order for younguns!

  • Well.... that is a really odd game.

  • Comment removed

  • You are swimming through cake. Why are you swimming through cake.

  • For some reason, whenever there is anything involving a freaky baby/child, my mind goes back to the classic Twilight Zone episode...Beware the corn field!

  • Wow. The first world is essentially a diabetic nightmare. At least it seems healthier where he goes to World 2, apparently the biggest lettuce patch known to man.

  • "They should make another game with Wart in it."

Wart's cousin, Mamu, was in Link's Awakening. Does that count?

  • This game is ... crazy? O_o

  • I have a sudden urge to eat tons of cake and icecream...

  • I wouldn't be surprised if, in the end, it turns out that you're not a baby at all, but an old man who's gone insane.

A man who's entire family was eaten by pigs!

  • UUUUUUUUUUUUUPAAAAAAA

  • Didn't think we'd be seeing Upa again after Parodius, but this is probably part of your crazy master plan to traumatize today's already troubled youth with trippy video games. I salute you!

  • This is without a doubt, the most random and odd game I've seen played.

  • Any David Bowie included in this game?

  • Before you mentioned that Upa was using a rattle to inflate the enemies, I thought he was using dynamite. Because that makes MUCH more sense.

  • so is this the baby that is in parodius?

  • Always awesome when DC plays a game I've personally played myself.

Also I find it odd how so much of SMB2 became classic Mario fare (Shy Guys, picking up items, Peach's floating ability) and yet Wart is still just kinda chilling in Subcon. Either Nintendo's biding their time or there's just certain aspects of SMB2 they don't like, I guess.

  • I'm not too young to know what a POW block is! Or something! I've dealt with giant lizards who dislike veggies! Hear me roar... ROAR!

  • All I can say: what were you thinking, Japan.

  • Yeah, why didn't they make another game with Wart?

  • Well this just screams Japan.

  • So I'm guessing this is his original game before ending up in Parodius? I bet more people (in the West) know him more from that rather than this.

  • Cabbage? Hooray! We have a chance of not getting cancer after all!

  • Good old Konami, making the majority of my most favored games.

  • Oh, hey, Upa. I remember you from Parodius!

  • The baby reminds me of Parodius. I have used correct grammar.

  • Did you forget as well, DC? The rule that as the player progresses, the bosses become more stubborn?

  • Snifits beware!

You are no match for bullet pig!

  • DC, this game is going to give me nightmares about little crawling babies with rattles trying to turn me into a balloon by hitting me repeatedly with said rattles. Quite a frightening thought.

    Good job =D

  • Well, this game isn't as much of a nightmare as Eversion, bleh!! Scary game! :O

  • I dont know what to say about this game

  • I weep for the people who don't know what a POW block is.

  • Ah, I kinda noticed the Teenage Mutant Ninja Turtles music as well.

    Also, Diabetes, that's ALWAYS FUN!

  • Upa: The Pac-Man Baby! Except with Cake! With a Rattle that Turns Enemies Into Balloons!

  • Now that you mention it, this game does have a lot of similarities to Super Mario Bros. 2. I wonder if Wart is the last boss or something.

  • WHAT IS THIS MADNESS.

  • How do you come across such strange and unique games?

Is it just a talent you have?

  • Apparently.

  • POW Blocks!!!!!

Anyone who doesn't know about POW blocks doesn't deserve to be called a gamer. I'm looking at you Halo fanboys.

By the way, weird game, someone at Konami was really high back then.

  • It's a pretty interesting game, but just weird enough to be cool. And baby eating way too much cake is always funny, except in real life. I guess I've only seen that in this game actually. Maybe it's not always funny.

  • Wart seems to have been forgotten by Nintendo. D': It's a shame, I would like to see him in another game too.

  • 1. The Null Driver and Pazzon just weren't weird enough for you?

    2. What the hell have I been missing on the Virtual Console the last few months of busy classes?

    3. Wart was going to be in Mario and Sonic at the Olympics, but he tested positive for... yes.

  • Does this game have a story?

  • I love Upa's facial expressions. The boredom while he's sitting around, the bemusement when he turns pigs into balloons, the frown when he jumps, the grin when he crawls, the "om nom nom" in the cake level. He may be some kind of genetically modified sin against nature, but he's also a baby.

Also Rupa apparently is swimming in cake in the second level.

  • As a diabetic, I found your diabetes quote quite funny XD Yeah, that place WOULD probably send me into... I dunno, delicious doomland. Why am I thinking of Monster Party while watching this video? Babies and baseball bats and candy and legs flailing out of the ground. I think I'm just crazy today. Yeah, let's go with that. I need to check my blood sugar, check it often, I'm Wilford Brimley and I have Diabeetus. :D

  • I think the treasure chest was floating, because it's an angelic treasure chest. Angels fly, angelic treasure chests float.

  • Speaking of Super Mario Bros 2, what's with that Birdo pig anyway?

  • Wow, you are right DC. I can hear the TMNT Radical Rescue music in stage 1-2. It also happens to be from my favorite tune in that game as well.

  • I think I just got diabetes by watching this video.

  • Also, The Legend of Zelda: Link's Awakening had a character that looked just like Wart if that counts.

  • Just when I thought you ran out of NES platformers I've never heard of, you decide to LP a game about a baby that can turn enemies into balloons.

For some reason, I think they were playing Dig Dug when they made this game...

  • I remember this guy from your Parodius videos.

  • Most people are too young to remember POW-Blocks? Come on, they even appeared in the Paper Mario games.

  • Wow. Looks like the graphics designer was on a diet when this was made.

  • Aw, DC, I remember Wart...He does appear in another game, but it was a cameo in a Zelda game. Forgot which one though...

  • Haha, Eating cake. What a unique idea!

  • This game isn't much wierder than other games you've played, but it doesn't have the backstory to support the wierdness, not a dream world for example. Then again, babies brains are not fully developed so...

  • What does the Konami code do in this game [if anything]?

  • I'd be sad if you blocked me. Fortunately, I rarely forget to capitalize my I's.

  • At first, i was all ''WTH? A baby that turns enemies into balloons?", but it turned out to be a fairly interesting game mechanic.

  • I agree with you DC Upa is definitely much more frightening when running than when he is crawling.

    Mama mia!

  • This game gives new meaning to the phrase "baby boom"

  • Was the first boss throwing yoshi heads? Weird.

  • Who doesn't remember the POW block?

It's one of the more iconic Mario items. At least, for me it is.

  • In America they made bootleg versions of this and called it Baby Mario.

  • I would guess this is part of the reason for the baby named Rupa in Parodius.

  • More like Miracle Jackass.

  • hmm isnt upa a character in Parodius?

  • Upa... I could have sworn I've seen the name briefly in another Let's Play... One where you played as a similarly named baby...

Also, I remember POW Blocks fondly...

  • I think Pazzon was weirder than this. But they both seem like good games.

  • Is that kid on acid.

  • It would be awesome if you did dynamite headdy, not many people know that game.

by the way, good luck finishing deadly towers, im guessing the score between you and madamluna is settled?

  • Well, it's somewhat even now. Even though I'm pretty sure I suffered more than he did in the process!

Dynamite Headdy is awesome, but I already did a solo LP of it on Google Video, so I don't think DC's going to.

  • This is quite the evil baby, I mean seriously, only a baby and already committing genocide? Horrible.

  • Where do you find all of these games?!

  • Okay, so you wave your candy at monsters, make them fat (they float... so it's more like, the contrary of making them fat), jump on them and get stuff.

... I feel bad about laughing at them.

  • Personally, I thought the old Atari Mario game was fun. With the exeption af those darn flies.

  • Man, this game reminds me a bit too much of Doki Dori Panic/Super Mario 2.

  • I admit, I'm curious to see how many games in a row you can LP that have a jump assistance mechanic.

  • So, THAT'S why Parodius has a flying baby in it. Anyway, this game looks cute. Weird, but cute.

  • Any boss that you kill with the power of vegetables is an awesome boss in my book.

  • Not since Parodius have we seen this much baby action! I for one am waiting for when we get to the bell stage and Upa starts firing stuff.

Rather than the "dig-dug in motion" we've seen so far.

  • Reminds me of Id software's "keen Dreams"

where all the enemys are food. Except in this game all the background stuff is food.

  • I guess you learn how to crawl, jump and then run.

  • I believe those are fairies taking him away, which makes more sense, because fairies are mischievous in mythology.

  • I have a feeling that Upa is actually a demon cyclops like the main character from Eversion.

  • So that's what the Diabeetus Guy was like as a baby...

  • Whats with you guys? This game makes pefect sense: It's a killer baby on PCP.

  • Did the second level remind anyone else of Dig-Dug?

  • That kid is going to have a heart attack before it's 3. And nice how they supplemented the second world with veggies after sending you into diabetic shock just playing through the first world.

  • Why is a baby killing innocent weird looking sprites in ice-cream land? =S But yeah great commentary as usual DC.

  • I really thought the baby was fighting with a rolling pin until you mentioned it was a rattle. I mean, would a rolling pin be that strange considering the rest of the game?

  • So is this meant to be some kind of dream world Upa is in? Or is this just every-day life for him?

  • I never thought I'd say this, but this is creepier than Eversion.

In fact, I think this game technically falls into the "survival horror" genre.

  • Use M. Crush!!!

  • Talk about different. Reminds me of Mario for some reason.

  • Who's watching this baby?

  • Watch the children.

  • <.< That's... a new level of disturbing, DC. Eversion ending disturbing.

  • Pazzon was...well unique, in it's own..little small world if anything. =/

As for this game, holy hell, no wonder it even reached EU or US. =/

Where you found it, WII Channel?

  • This is a reminder that at one time video games really could be about anything and pull it off.

  • This is the happiest game ever. Now i must check my blood sugar thanks to the delicious sugar coated world Upa crawls in. :D

  • I've always wondered what the origin of Upa and Rupa was, and I'm not disappointed. It looks like a fun game, I'm assuming it came out for the VC?
