  • has to be said MARC ALMOND has one of the best voices around by far.................. a gutter heart missing the days of soft cell, the mambas, the willing sinners,,,,,,,,,,,,,,,.

  • im glad my subconcious and my councious is taking all this in..... yippeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeee got ya

  • im not for me.... u fear........ nice one boys...so... i belongs to me and i do belong to you... smile..... now have we a court case on our hands here

  • This is one of the few songs, and i mean few, that's been covered better than the original in my opinion! David Gray brought me here and now i'm going back to his one :)

  • I love this version, and a-ha also do a brilliant version of this song. a-ha's version is on youtube too :) .

  • One of my favourites by ANY band. Okay - Tainted Love was a bigger hit - but for me - this is the one.

  • David Grey fucked this good n proper..fat dick lol

  • I've listened to this song many, many times. It still holds the same resonance that it had when I heard it the first time. I have never tired of it. That cannot be said of many of the tunes I have heard in my lifetime.

  • that boy was as queer as a box of frogs but by fuck could he sing nothin but admiration

  • Mp3 Hello wav. Goodbye

  • marc still looks ever so young even today...must be all that cum sprayed over his face over the years..?

  • The Pink Flaming was a Gay Nightclub in Blackpool

i believe it got burned down a couple of years ago

  • Thank you, David Gray, for remaking this song into something better!

  • @elmy1975 HA HA HA HA YOUR COMMENT IS QUITE RIDICULOUS

  • @elmy1975

    haha, David Gray is awful.

  • @htavilap im not a huge fan... but 'the one I love' is pretty cool.

  • Leather jackets with slim lapels (grey or burgundy); space invaders; snakebites; Bodie & Doyle; pixie boots; RS2000's and 3.0 litre Capri's; thin leather ties; highlighted hair; Terry McCann & Arthur Daley; rara skirts; Lombard RAC Rally; Reagan & Carter; Lotus Sunbeam's; chips in newspaper; Asteroids; political in-correctness; Dangermouse; Donna Summer; Morecambe & Wise; cheap petrol; pretty girls; The Young Ones; Rubik's Cube; C60 cassettes; Pacman......... Can I have them all back please?

  • I spent my teenage years trying to make sure that all the Soft Cell records I bought had paper labels! All SC fans will know that the glossy sleeve version of this had a pink label!

  • the pink flamingo was a pub in wigan were marc would stand in the doorway waiting for the allnighter to start at wigan casino, hence his release of tainted love a northern soul classic, good old days

  • one of the best love songs ever written or performed.

  • and this goat had the stupidity to bad mouth gary numan!!!,,cant even find the right key

  • @alanlad1 i have seen the footage on here, and it was some sad TV show was it not when he reviewed Warriors? As great an album as that is, in the context of the anti-numan age when it was released you cant blame the lad? (and I am a massive Numan fan btw)

  • a-ha make it sound better...

this isn't bad...it's just my opinion...this is very good but not so good as a-ha

  • this is a classic song and sang beautifully by mark the legend. keep your homophobic language to yourself you know who you are freak.

  • Well...this is rather marvellous, isn't it! Just, lovely.

  • I honestly think we had the best music in the 80's and this is one of the absolute classics. Love, love, love it.

  • this guys music is responsible for gettng me through some tough times during the 80's. No one knows how to write music like this anymore. Marc - I salute you!

  • @xesionprince he didnt the majority of his songs were copies of early 60"s hits, none the less he did a good job

  • That was brilliant. Chart-topping and heartbreaking record and Marc dressed like nobody else. Long live Marc

  • I abso;utlely love this song,i remember foning a radio station to get them to play this song for a couple of friends who were going out and the dj talked over most of it and i was livid

  • ahhhhh i just love them too much :33

  • David Grays version is much better!

  • @kvntraveller - I don't think so!

  • @xesionprince Well, we all have our own opinion...lol

  • Thumbs up if you're a 11 year old kid and you like this song

  • SAY HELLO WAVE GOODBYE IS THE BEST SOFT SELL SONG NEXT TO TAINTED LOVE

  • @SuperZeldaBros64 So it's not the best song then?

  • @SuperZeldaBros64 were their many others??

  • @redredreds100 Bedsitter is a great song of theres

  • @SuperZeldaBros64 much as i love both , the unhrerald My hand over my heart 4 me is clearly Marc's best song

  • @SuperZeldaBros64 yes... i feel love/johnny is my second, but its not his so ill go with you.. :)

  • I hated this when I was young, now it hits me..Marc Almond may not be the best singer ever but with this song he hits it spot on

  • @odinswolf1969 Your Kiding Marc Almond is a very under rated singer and artist he puts a great deal of heart and soul into his music and is a fantastic artist. Watch the original video of jacky.

  • the darts

  • little fart

  • This was the best song on that album. It was fantastic!

  • I like this better than Tainted Love.

  • One of my all time favorites.

  • Another classic 80's tune from a classic 80's band. :-) Mark Almonds musical creativity was too short lived.

  • at 0:08 I thought my laptop was out of battery

  • Why is it some people say " He is a terrible singer" or " He was the worst singer ever" what people need to understand is times change not everyone was like we are now ;p

  • He played 2010 Isle of Wight Bestival, He was one of the best acts there. If anyone gets the chance to see him, go, you won't regret it

  • he looks like pee wee herman

  • Killer.

  • @mrlemongrower Agreed! I will tell them their an asshole!

  • ROFL he looks like Dave Gahan in the 1981 era

  • Marc Almond was always open to ridicule, especially by Rowan Atkinson, but a live performance is a live performance, and his own work too.

  • love this song, marc almond's voice sounds amazing.

  • fool

  • Érdekes, kedves zene, tetszik...

  • why text of this song is so true.... :(

  • this is a joke? hahaha wow sad this was music in the 80's

  • @kaczerm

*YOU* are the sad one, knobwart.

You wouldn't know a decent song or singer if one slapped you in the face.

  • @kaczerm Your a tone deaf asshole!

  • preferably goodbye bender...

  • hahahahahahahahahahaha man thats so fricking funny what a dork

  • best song ive heard ever, the beat is clean perfectly awesome wow

  • An amazing live performance, sounds as good as the recorded version

  • I've just re-discovered this brill tune again after all these years...It sounds just as good as it did back in the day...CLASS will live on forever.

  • No one will ever change their songs.....the lyrics are so true and down to earth

  • Over 30 years old and still sounds as great today as all them years ago.

    A true classic .

  • Marc Almond is such a cool guy.

  • It all depends on your respective tastes, I like SC & DG, so I like DG's version, especially as I was going thru the end of a bad relationship at the time of the White Ladder album.

  • @ukusrule I think you are correct. I like both versions. I like the first version because it reminds me of the 80s, and everything seemed to have more life and energy back then. Now, with everything going on, DG's version has more of a sober (albeit depressing) tone that matches that mood. (Btw, hope the name is a musical reference and not the other variety--Rap's Piliki'a Hotline's version). ;D

  • david grey fucking ruined this classic.. wobberly headed cunt

  • @holmanmi lol oh my god you must SO still wear guyliner

  • @holmanmi Yeah, like Hitler ruined anti-semitism. . . . are you brain dead or just plain stupid. David Grey rescued this song from London pop crap and installed it permanently as an immortal folk anthem.

  • @holmanmi pmsl, omg i just spat my coffee out

  • @holmanmi

    Basically

  • fuck this.... I see why david gray took this song and made it great... fucking terrible... sorry fruits

  • this was one of my favorites back in the early 80's, and this live version is one of my favorites of all time. hope Marc does one of the 80's tours in the UK (been to a few).

would like to see this live, along with go west (wishfull thinking), simple minds (don't you) and seekers (carnival is over)

  • Makes you laugh, cry. This is just magnificent.

  • @cubbyblues In a stylistic sense, I see what you are saying, but I disagree. Almond's has heart and these are his words, Gray's is a slick, ultimately meaningless, cash in.

  • @cubbyblues Well, you ARE a moron. Maybe that explains it. A 29 yer old Dashboard Confessional fan LOL!

  • @TenWhoWereTaken What's your point? DC came out a decade ago. You can't "LOL" to your own statement when you're a fan of this nonsense.

  • @cubbyblues I can and did. Get back to your re-runs of The OC.

  • He looks so young! Looks like he's never even shaved. Bloody amazing voice too.

  • I have always really loved this tune it's class..

  • Marc Almond at his best, fantastic song "The best version by a mile" Spent many a day skipping school listeneing to this...Love it just as much today and sounds just as fresh...

  • The first commercially successful electro synth duo in the UK...Awesome! Any fans of New Wave must check out Electro Kill Machine! They are from Basildon, Essex (Same town as Depeche Mode, Yazoo)

Like going back to the 80's!

  • Great song. Takes me back to my yoof : )

  • A thousand times better than the autotuned, remote controlled shit that's been played in 2011

  • Up the with one of the best songs ever written...and Marc Almond sings so beautiful

  • my uncle loved this band. He's dead now.

  • okaa i listened to david grays version... its shit compared to this :) well done soft cell, its a shame you wernt- and still arnt appreciated

  • Hahaha FUCK David Gray version SO MUCH BETTER

  • @JennaaMallonnn Die in a paedophile's house fire you fucking philistine cunt.

  • @JennaaMallonnn dream on you moron david gray was a talentless twat cashing in on others talent

  • @JennaaMallonnn I bet you are glad you posted that comment lol. Marc Almond would have got plenty of royalties so he is probably glad some people like David Gray's version.

  • @planetrockford Good for him. I got nothing against the man personally, so let him have some dough from a song that was originally his (a song that fucking sucked until David Gray made it amazing)

  • @JennaaMallonnn YouTube would be nothing without different opinions. Soft Cell's version is so personal to the singer and many people can relate to that, that is why when you insult the singer they bite. Have fun.

  • @planetrockford Okay, David Gray's version is personal to me, grew up listening to it. I happen to believe it is a much better version. & I know, right? It's sooo much fun bitching people out on YouTube!

  • a nice lill housewife.... :)

  • Rhis song reminds me of 5 pence bus fares and 10 pence mix ups.

  • When early 80s electronic bands had those big open-reel tapes running on stage, were they actually playing anything, or were they just a prop?

  • @Widmerpool99

they usually had the backing or drum beat playing on the tape while parts that could be played on synths were played live

the human league did this allot in their early tv appearances as the synth they used to create the beats and backing was also used to create the main tune of the song

when drum machines became available this trend died out as the reel tape machines were no longer needed as the drum machines could perform live and with fewer issues

  • great Marc!!

  • hes face look like linguini from disney ratatouille :D

  • @azuhair1 That was a nice word ratatouille wasn't it

  • you're a shame, friend...

  • @hus04048747 do you have a problem?

  • Comment removed

  • so?? sei un pirla...

  • @hus04048747 AND? you big poof.

  • @hus04048747 WOW,, you really have too much time on your hands

  • gay or straight this is an ace song... btw im straight if it makes a difference but i love singig along to this... i have had a bird bit like what Mr.Almond is describing

  • search for image: marcalmond_performing.jpg

  • The Hoosies version is better.

  • if Carlsberg could do voices !!!!!!!

  • He so hotttttttttttttttttttttttt.

  • Saw Soft Cell in L.A. in the 80's. During this song, some random guy got on stage and tried to give Marc some affection. Marc was so pissed he stormed off the stage for a few minutes. We all thought "What a prima donna the concert's over because of a hug?" but he returned to finish the song.

  • sheer class

  • Oh no I had no idea he looked like this. What an ugly mug. Still a decent band though. Nouvelle Vague does a great cover of this

  • no fx

  • best of leeds this is great band i wasnt alive in 80's but i no good music when i hear it

  • The 80's were the best time to grow up!!!

  • @Asia1Alpha Actually the 60's were because I could then grow up again in the 70's and the 80's. I stopped bothering in the 90's

  • phenomenal song

  • ...thank *God* for Soft Cell... and wine.

  • Genius track

  • I love this - I loved it even before I thought about gay/straight. NOT RELEVANT! It's just a great song

  • great song!! i love it :D

  • WTF.. Who cares what he is . The music is magic

  • WTF.. Who cares what he is . The music is majic

  • thanks this sums up the 80´s for me

  • pure quality and pure magic

  • That guy takes gay to a whole other level!! He sure can sing. This has to be the worlds greatestest break up song.

  • Jesus, the 'it doesn't matter if he's gay' argument is bullshit.

If you can imagine Jon Bon Jovi doing this number, then you're a freak!

  • great song, great musician, i couldnt care less about him being gay, i can only hear great music

  • Comment removed

  • my mother always said if youve nothing good to say then youre better off saying nothing at all

  • awsome

  • hang on, hes gay?????? :L

  • How does anybody hear anything other than someone singing about the pain of a lost love. The homophobic comments are very puzzling!!!!y

  • great song... x

  • love this fucking song so fucking much!!!!!!!!

  • what a voice. what a performer. O M G !

  • great tune :) but it sure DOESN'T get any gay-er than this :D

  • @easye1961 What about this song is gay?You in a cocktail dress.Sounds like a straight relationship to me.Explain...I must be dense.

  • @nibsvkh That's true. While listening to Soft Cell a lot in the mid 80's I was "aware" of the scene that Marc Almond was a part of or at least some ways connected to, and there may have been some lyrical subterfuge going on, the lyrics of the songs were all boy and girl, and that's how I took them!

  • @easye1961 what about runaway by the Communards?

  • @mulac321 what about it?

  • has to be one of the best choruses ever

  • I love this song!

  • 1982 I remember this first time around, yea showing my age I know.Broke up with a girl friend around this time.Seen her recently in Tesco carpark,Did,nt recognise her she called my name,I remember Tainted Love around 1980 I believe Hell where have the years gone,

  • He has a lovely voice.

  • great music - fueling a changing period that lasted about 8 yrs (on my calendar?)

  • That dude puts on eye liner better than me :) I love thisssss :))))

  • excellent excellent song - loved it then - love it now. It's Marc's song but I do also love David Gray's version - subtle different slant on it. Both versions are beautiful.

  • for all the gay cracks being said here, the only real gays were the radio. these guys were the best during their prime and just like the hair bands needed awesome flash guitarists, band like these needed a kick ass vocalist. take boy george, simon lebon and the guy from ah ha. they were good, but marc was a bit cooler than those guys. most radio stations only played tainted love, but classics like youth, sex dwarf, bedsitter, you'd only hear them in clubs.

  • This is just a fucking brilliant track when i here this live i still get goosebumps and emotional such a powerful and beautiful track even after all these years i couldnt care is marc almond is gay that's his perogative, One things for sure he knows women far better than 'us' hetrosexual men he just sings with so much emotion one truly great singer Soft cell still aound awesome today long may it continue!

  • Great singer, great fashion sense, good looks and I don't give a crap if he is gay or not.

  • 1930s Berlin meets 1970s Bradford and the results are outstanding.

  • is this the official video or a tv spot?

  • class tune ;)

  • this is magic !

  • Is this song about a prostitute. :/ anyway great song im 17 and i love the 80s music, Better then the shit we have out now. <3

  • @pennydreadfull1 - your not gonna believe it Penny, but the song was actually written about Boy George - he and Mark Almond had a fling a few years back.

  • @jax668 Thanks, Just i never new what it was about. :) Learn something new everyday.

  • @pennydreadfull1 That's not true about BG and Marc having an affair. He was pulling your leg.
