has to be said MARC ALMOND has one of the best voices around by far.................. a gutter heart missing the days of soft cell, the mambas, the willing sinners,,,,,,,,,,,,,,,.
im not for me.... u fear........ nice one boys...so... i belongs to me and i do belong to you... smile..... now have we a court case on our hands here
This is one of the few songs, and i mean few, that's been covered better than the original in my opinion! David Gray brought me here and now i'm going back to his one :)
I've listened to this song many, many times. It still holds the same resonance that it had when I heard it the first time. I have never tired of it. That cannot be said of many of the tunes I have heard in my lifetime.
Leather jackets with slim lapels (grey or burgundy); space invaders; snakebites; Bodie & Doyle; pixie boots; RS2000's and 3.0 litre Capri's; thin leather ties; highlighted hair; Terry McCann & Arthur Daley; rara skirts; Lombard RAC Rally; Reagan & Carter; Lotus Sunbeam's; chips in newspaper; Asteroids; political in-correctness; Dangermouse; Donna Summer; Morecambe & Wise; cheap petrol; pretty girls; The Young Ones; Rubik's Cube; C60 cassettes; Pacman......... Can I have them all back please?
I spent my teenage years trying to make sure that all the Soft Cell records I bought had paper labels! All SC fans will know that the glossy sleeve version of this had a pink label!
the pink flamingo was a pub in wigan were marc would stand in the doorway waiting for the allnighter to start at wigan casino, hence his release of tainted love a northern soul classic, good old days
@alanlad1 i have seen the footage on here, and it was some sad TV show was it not when he reviewed Warriors? As great an album as that is, in the context of the anti-numan age when it was released you cant blame the lad? (and I am a massive Numan fan btw)
this guys music is responsible for gettng me through some tough times during the 80's. No one knows how to write music like this anymore. Marc - I salute you!
I abso;utlely love this song,i remember foning a radio station to get them to play this song for a couple of friends who were going out and the dj talked over most of it and i was livid
@odinswolf1969 Your Kiding Marc Almond is a very under rated singer and artist he puts a great deal of heart and soul into his music and is a fantastic artist. Watch the original video of jacky.
Why is it some people say " He is a terrible singer" or " He was the worst singer ever" what people need to understand is times change not everyone was like we are now ;p
It all depends on your respective tastes, I like SC & DG, so I like DG's version, especially as I was going thru the end of a bad relationship at the time of the White Ladder album.
@ukusrule I think you are correct. I like both versions. I like the first version because it reminds me of the 80s, and everything seemed to have more life and energy back then. Now, with everything going on, DG's version has more of a sober (albeit depressing) tone that matches that mood. (Btw, hope the name is a musical reference and not the other variety--Rap's Piliki'a Hotline's version). ;D
@holmanmi Yeah, like Hitler ruined anti-semitism. . . . are you brain dead or just plain stupid. David Grey rescued this song from London pop crap and installed it permanently as an immortal folk anthem.
this was one of my favorites back in the early 80's, and this live version is one of my favorites of all time. hope Marc does one of the 80's tours in the UK (been to a few).

@JennaaMallonnn I bet you are glad you posted that comment lol. Marc Almond would have got plenty of royalties so he is probably glad some people like David Gray's version.
@planetrockford Good for him. I got nothing against the man personally, so let him have some dough from a song that was originally his (a song that fucking sucked until David Gray made it amazing)
@JennaaMallonnn YouTube would be nothing without different opinions. Soft Cell's version is so personal to the singer and many people can relate to that, that is why when you insult the singer they bite. Have fun.
@planetrockford Okay, David Gray's version is personal to me, grew up listening to it. I happen to believe it is a much better version. & I know, right? It's sooo much fun bitching people out on YouTube!
they usually had the backing or drum beat playing on the tape while parts that could be played on synths were played live
the human league did this allot in their early tv appearances as the synth they used to create the beats and backing was also used to create the main tune of the song
when drum machines became available this trend died out as the reel tape machines were no longer needed as the drum machines could perform live and with fewer issues

Saw Soft Cell in L.A. in the 80's. During this song, some random guy got on stage and tried to give Marc some affection. Marc was so pissed he stormed off the stage for a few minutes. We all thought "What a prima donna the concert's over because of a hug?" but he returned to finish the song.

@nibsvkh That's true. While listening to Soft Cell a lot in the mid 80's I was "aware" of the scene that Marc Almond was a part of or at least some ways connected to, and there may have been some lyrical subterfuge going on, the lyrics of the songs were all boy and girl, and that's how I took them!
1982 I remember this first time around, yea showing my age I know.Broke up with a girl friend around this time.Seen her recently in Tesco carpark,Did,nt recognise her she called my name,I remember Tainted Love around 1980 I believe Hell where have the years gone,
excellent excellent song - loved it then - love it now. It's Marc's song but I do also love David Gray's version - subtle different slant on it. Both versions are beautiful.
for all the gay cracks being said here, the only real gays were the radio. these guys were the best during their prime and just like the hair bands needed awesome flash guitarists, band like these needed a kick ass vocalist. take boy george, simon lebon and the guy from ah ha. they were good, but marc was a bit cooler than those guys. most radio stations only played tainted love, but classics like youth, sex dwarf, bedsitter, you'd only hear them in clubs.
This is just a fucking brilliant track when i here this live i still get goosebumps and emotional such a powerful and beautiful track even after all these years i couldnt care is marc almond is gay that's his perogative, One things for sure he knows women far better than 'us' hetrosexual men he just sings with so much emotion one truly great singer Soft cell still aound awesome today long may it continue!
@pennydreadfull1 - your not gonna believe it Penny, but the song was actually written about Boy George - he and Mark Almond had a fling a few years back.

excellent excellent song - loved it then - love it now.

@pennydreadfull1 - your not gonna believe it Penny, but the song was actually written about Boy George - he and Mark Almond had a fling a few years back.

@pennydreadfull1 That's not true about BG and Marc having an affair. He was pulling your leg.
